All About Me

I have had a rotten day. Well, actually not fully rotten, but since I had hoped to see Mandy and Savannah today and didn’t, well call me disappointed.

I haven’t been feeling well for a while. In fact it’s been a long while. I didn’t know why I was, but I just thought that I kept getting the flu. Over and over I was getting sick with severe flu-like symptoms and terrible high fevers (103.6). Most of all, joint arthralgias that have left me nearly unable to move.

I finally have reached the point where I knew if I was going to get better I needed to be assertive and fight for answers.

I’ve done research, read books and gone over my records with a fine tooth comb. Finally it all fell together and I realized what was wrong with me. I armed myself with pictures, records, and such and went in to see my regular doctor last week.

After going through everything, including a bulls-eye rash on my leg 2 years ago, my doctor and I are more than convinced that it is Lyme Disease. Since it was left untreated at the start it has become severe.

I have almost no immune system left, and I get sick almost as soon as I am off antibiotics. So when I heard that both Mandy and Savannah were ill, we postponed the visit.

Truthfully, today was a bad day health-wise. I ached and felt weak, had a fever and had to force myself to get things done.

So, Gentle Readers, I will be sent to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, for evaluations and treatment options.

I’ve been reluctant to write about this, but at this point, I needed to get it out. Perhaps so when I don’t write as I normally do, you will understand and forgive me. Writing Dackel Princess has been a true joy for me since I began in May of 2005. I fear it will be a long road to recovery, but I am willing to fight back.

  1. Find the most experienced MD in treating Lyme Disease that you can. One of our tech down here had it and no one in our area culd adequately treat her. She and her husband moved back north to PA and she found an excellent doctor well versed in treating Lyme. Just do not be afraid to check credentials and go with the best. The young lady in question is now living a full life again. Love you – hoping you feel better soon Carol

  2. I’m sorry to hear this Maribeth, but happy you at least know what you’re dealing with. I have a friend who also was diagnosed late, it’s been a long recovery, but she is doing so well now. Be strong and like Carol above me said, definitely get connected to the right doctor. I think that’s key. I will keep you in my prayers. Take care!

  3. You are on your way to finding the right Doctors to help you get better and get back to your old self. Don’t let up in the search for the right one and even if your doctor up there knows someone make sure it is the right one who really can help you. You have a lot more living to do my dear and need to be in good health to enjoy it. Sending much love and big hugs your way. Hang in there. Love YOU, Mel

  4. Maribeth, you finally got the right surgeon and look how far you’ve come there. This is the start to health and wellbeing. Get the right doctor, and arm yourself to teeth with information and you will be well!!!xxxooo
