Getting Bigger

It was a rather busy day for me today. I had errands to run, a doctor’s appointment and meals to cook. In the interim I managed to snap a few pictures of our growing puppies.

I love this one because Baron is sticking his little tongue out. He does that a lot. Proving that he really is a chow hound!

May 8 001

Can you see how much bigger Baron is than the rest of them?

May 8 015

Okay, I guess this is the Baron picture day. He just seemed to be posing more than the others.

May 8 003

Bernie did get in on things and he posed for this cute shot.

Is this dog a picture ham or what?

And lastly, we introduced Arnie to his sister’s puppies. He was amazed that she had somehow produced these little rats!

The Babies Are Growing

I noticed today that the pups are getting more active, and we also noticed that their eyes no longer appear to be completely fused shut. I would bet this means that by the weekend we will have some beautiful eyes opening up to the world.

Their ears have grown and their noses too, and they are starting to resemble their dackel ancestors.

They eat in a manner that can only be described as wild. At least Baron does. He is the largest and he really chows down!

I also took their pictures individually and tagged them, so you would know their little faces and their names.

Now aren’t those just the cutest faces?

Have a great day everyone, and a wonderful Mother’s Day Weekend!!!

The Joy!

Wednesday I spent quite a bit of time with Anneliese and the puppies. It was so much fun to climb into the whelping box and hold the puppies, while I patted Anneliese. She was so cute. I think she is very proud of her litter, and she certainly should be.

May 6 018

They are happy, healthy, squirming little babies, with fat bellies!

May 6 019

While holding them, they tried to nurse my hand and they would snuggle against me.

May 6 020

Hubby came in with me and we took turns taking pictures.

May 6 016

Just look at this face!

May 6 017

In just a few more days their little eyes will open. I can hardly wait!

May 6 015

In other news, I planted my cucumber and squash seeds today, re-potted my tomato, eggplant and brussel sprout plants, and got the green house cleaned up and organized.

Also a little note to my cousin. I love you, sweetie and I’m wishing you all kinds of good luck!

Nursing Babies

Time is slipping by so fast and the puppies are growing. They have all doubled their weight and have the cutest fat bellies! It makes me so happy.

Anneliese is starting to spend just a little time away from them. She will ask to come sit with us, then come out for a few minutes before wanting to go back. I think she misses us.

Ah yes, life is good.

Sleep?

Monday was a nice low key day. I sure needed it. You see since the puppies were born, Anneliese has been getting me up early, or in the night and I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep. This morning was no exception. At 5:15 she woke me up with sweet kisses and snuggles.

Well, I love the girl. She is my baby, but I also need my beauty rest! So today I took the bed out of the puppy room, and replaced it with a recliner. This gives me a place to sit and recline during the day with Anneliese, and then at night I will sleep in my own bed.

We also left the puppies for 1-1/2 hours to go out to eat for Hubby’s birthday. All was fine when we returned, but I still worried the entire time.

Now that we are past Hubby’s birthday, it is back to being on a strict Weight Watchers diet. It’s not that I have gained a lot (some), but I need to get myself back on track.

The rest of the week is easy with only a visit to the fountain of youth for my hair. Aside from that, I am home with all my babies! Just where I want to be!

Spring!

It was a lovely day here in New Hampshire on Saturday. The sun was bright, the skies were deep blue, and all around, life seemed to be settling back to normal.

Anneliese is more relaxed. She lounges with the pups, she hops out of the whelping box and cuddles with me or with Emily and no longer gets terrified if people come into the house. In fact she is the picture of a great doggy mommy!

May 2 064

Her pups are also doing well. Big Boy Blue now has a name! His new owners wrote to tell me he will be called Baron! I love it! It really fits him!

May 2 020

I felt bad that Blue was the only one with a name, so since Yellow is still not assigned I decided to name him. I wanted to name him after Anneliese’s father, Bernie. So Yellow’s proper name will be Bernd (a good German name) and we will call him Bernie, just like his grandpa!

May 2 013

Emily spent a lot of time with the pups today, as her vacation is now over and she had to go home and start getting ready to go back to school on Monday.

May 2 030

We tossed a few T-bone steaks on the grill when her Dad was here to get her, and we watched the Kentucky Derby Horse Race. A nice start to the summer cookout season.

The cherry blossoms are out in our yard. It’s starting to look truly beautiful here. Soon the apple trees will blossom and then the peach, pears and plum trees.

May 2 043

Ah. Spring! Renewal. New life!

Isn’t It Wonderful?

The days are slipping by and tomorrow the pups will be a week old! Can you believe it? They are growing and changing every day and Anneliese has become one of the best mother doggies that I have ever seen! The entire miracle of birth still awes me and I am glad. In this cynical world, at least there are things that can fill us with all the wonder and innocence of a child!

Life Is Good!

As I lay sleeping in the puppy room early on Thursday morning, I could feel the sunlight hitting my face, as dawn broke. I’d slept well and felt warm and toasty under the covers and wasn’t quite ready to begin the day, when I suddenly felt Anneliese jump up onto the bed and begin snuggling next to me.

I smiled. My girl, who has been very distracted since about half way through her pregnancy, was suddenly back.

Now she is not like this with everyone, but with Hubby and me, she is back to the sweet little girl that we have always known that she was.

April 30 Anneliese and her children

Of course, when you get a stranger into the house, she barks and barks and sounds quite fierce, but otherwise, she is relaxing and happy and actually taking a moment here, and a moment there to come out of the whelping box to get a little love for herself.

I’m starting to catch up on my sleep and I even spent some time trying to get a perfect picture of the litter. Oh it is so hard right now. In another week when their eyes open and they start looking like proper doggies, it will be so much more fun to take pictures of them. Although I do admit to being truly entertained while lying on my belly snapping away.

April 30 Miss Black & Mr. Yellow

On the lefty is Miss Black and on the right Mr. Yellow. Mr. Yellow is the only one who is still unsold. I have to say, he sure is a looker and a sweet heart!

April 30 Miss Black

And this is Miss Black, close up. She is the smallest and the first born of this litter. She came into this world, kicking and mewling and full of life! Isn’t she a doll?

April 30 Pig Pile

And lastly, this is the Dackel Princess Pig Pile! All four babies cuddled up for a nap! Wish I were small enough to join them!

And We’ll Have Fun, Fun, Fun….

Anneliese is better! I mean she is like a different doggy. Happy, relaxed and like her old self! I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am! And how much better I will sleep tonight!

The puppies are growing so fast. It’s funny, but you wait for them to arrive (the last few days are especially tough!), and suddenly they are here and growing rapidly. In fact today, they all had to get new collars tied to accommodate their growth.

Today a reporter from our State newspaper came to speak to us about doing a story about Anneliese, her breeding and the babies! How great is that?

I have to laugh about it though, because I haven’t been doing much housework since the puppies arrived and this morning I worked so hard to get the placed cleaned up and washed down! Suffice to say, it looked pretty good for a two hour clean up job.

Anneliese Today

Anneliese had a good night, although I’m not sure she slept a lot. She gets pretty worried when the babies aren’t nursing her. So I put them back on a teat, and then all is right with her world.

Her fever is down this morning, she ate a good breakfast and I weighed the puppies.

April 28 045

Miss Black, who was born weighing 8.3 ounces is up to 11.4 ounces even! Mr. Yellow, was born weighing in at  8.8 ounces and he is up to 10.5 ounces. Miss Green, was born weighing 7.9 ounces and she weighed in at 10.0 ounces, and our Big Boy Blue, who was the largest puppy at birth at 9.7 ounces is now up to a whopping, 14.0 ounces!!!

I admit to not getting too much sleep last night. I played the role of night nurse. When a pup started squealing to find a teat, I was right there to help out. Anneliese gets so upset that the baby is crying and until she is feeling completely well, I’m trying to keep her stresses down.

April 28 036

Today I plan another quiet day. I may send Hubby out on a recognisance mission to buy people food and dog food!
