Faith

Ah, you know, they say when the cat’s away…Well in this case, while I have been recovering,  some Rotter, hacked my darling, Dackel Princess.

I shouldn’t be surprised. I have neglected my site and instead of sharing my crazy thoughts, and ideas, I have been silent.

Although what I will tell you about this whole neck surgery will make you go “EEEK” I want you to know that I have learned a big lesson.

In life, most of the time, all you really have is yourself to get you through things. Suck it up buttercup, life goes on.

But, if you are lucky, and loving,  you might just find a daughter,  son, grandchild or friend to be there for you.

Don’t give up and keep on working, to make your life better.

Even if you feel like you are totally lost and alone, there is a tomorrow, and right now I plan to do what my Grandma told me.

“Get yourself a strong rope, tie a giant knot in the end, and then hang on, Sweetie!”

Life is tough, but you can do it! Have faith in yourself and in God!

OMG

SURGERY  Back of my neck, and she lives!

Seems just the other day  I was going in for some spinal surgery.

Slightly more painful as the incicion was larger, and through muscle

Thinking, how bad could this be, I  proceeded.

Well, sweet Mother of God! It was like having an elephant c-section through the back of my neck.

I am with Matt  Mandy,  Savannah  and Quinn and they brighten my day.

But goodness, the pain!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. It’s officially summer (in the northern hemisphere anyway). Which summer month is best and why?

August. It seems that everyone is on vacation, no one is moving fast, and there are families enjoying the beach near our home. I hear children laughing and splashing and it is a wonderful happy time!

2. Can you swim? How did you learn? June 27th is National Sunglasses Day. How many pair do you own?

Yes, I can swim. I think I learned to swim about the time I learned to walk. In fact, Mom used to tie a rope to me, as I would try to swim away! Here I am, about the age of three with my big sister, Melodie!

Yes, I own a pair of prescription sunglasses and then several junkie pairs that fit over my glasses.

3. What characteristic do you judge most harshly in yourself? How about in others?

My appearance I think. I try not to, but since my surgery, I have really wallowed. I am trying now to stop it and to see myself in a kinder light.

4. Robert Frost wrote the now well known poem entitled The Road Not Taken. What’s a road (literal or figurative) you’ve always wanted to travel, and where do you hope it takes you?

I dream of taking a road that will lead me to a new home, in a new town, closer to Mandy and the children.

5. Popsicles-yay or nay? If you answered yay, what’s your favorite flavor?

Yay! And cherry is my favorite!

6. Brexit-on a scale of 1-10 how knowledgeable are you on what’s involved here? (1=very knowledgeable and 10=what’s Brexit) Is this news you’ll follow or is it something you think won’t impact your life in any way shape or form?

I’ve followed it quite a bit. Although no one can predict the eventual outcome of Brexit for the UK, it actually will affect me in the form of my step-daughter is married to a Brit. and she also became British last year. They both will be affected.

I’m only doing six this week as I have run out of time and answers. I will be back next week with, I hope, a complete list!

Sleepy Saturdays & Harry Nilsson

Saturday was one of those days where I felt I needed to be quiet and somewhat lazy. I somehow picked up a slight cold with a fever, and that just seemed to zap me of any desire to do much of anything.

I did cruise the Web, and did some online shopping, and I watched some HGTV shows, as well as a Documentary about the short life of Harry Nilsson.

For those of you who can’t recall Harry here is a video clip of him singing. What a wonderful voice.

Harry wrote over 400 songs in his 52 years of life. His gift was not just for writing the music, but the poetic lyrics as well. He was a self taught musician, and he was able to record all the background vocals for his songs.

Hubby and I watched the documentary together. It was well done, and it included Harry, his family and his friends. It’s called “Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him)?” It’s available on Amazon Prime, and definitely worth the time.

Saturday night we “Fall Back” time wise, so I hope that you all remembered to do this, or you will be up early and missing your chance at a little extra sleep.

Our Last Day

Dayton, Ohio. I never thought much about this place, but there is so much here. So much history. From Wilbur and Orville Wright, to The Packard Automobile, to Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and home to the Air Force Aviation Museum. And all of that, is just the start!

Al Capone’s Packard. His last car.I think you could stay for a week or two and never see everything here. We did go off with our friends Jim and Geraldine, to see a few more things today, but we quite simply ran out of time. 20151002_104305

Orville and Wilber Wright.

So, we stopped at a little Pub Restaurant and had lunch and then returned to the hotel to make our plans for the return trip to New Hampshire, and prepare for tonight’s banquet.

We had the annual membership meeting and Memorial service this morning. I teared up a lot. Several of the men who passed this year were men I have known for a long time. Sad to see them go.

However, our organization gives out scholarships to the grandchildren of our members. It was wonderful to see the youth being enriched by all that these heroic pilots have done.

Here is a funny story. At lunch today our waitress was trying to entice us to have bread pudding. Alas, if we had not had such a big and wonderful lunch, we might have indulged, but no….So she asked if we might like to take some home. I said no, because home, was a long, long, way.

She asked where? I told her New Hampshire. A moment passed and then a man came over. “Is that your Cadillac outside?” he asked. “Why yes.” I answered.

“It’s a 2004 Sedan DeVille, right?” he said.

“Yes.” I answered.

“I have a twin to your car! Right down to the color!”

The only difference is that his car had over 200,000 miles and ours just went over the 100,000 mile mark.

I know, small world!

Now it’s time to finish packing and go home.

This trip went really fast.

November Arrives

Can you believe it is November 1st? Where did the month of October go? Or for that matter, the year 2014!

I have started to put items in shoe boxes as I prepare for our trip. Since I have lost a little weight the shorts I wore last winter on our trip, no longer fit me. Too big. And it is November, after all, so there are not many stores carrying shorts.

But, I did find an online catalog selling them in an array of colors for $6.99 each! So I ordered Navy Blue, White & Black. At this point, I am all set for the trip!

We’re going to see “St. Vincent” with Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy today. I’ll let you all know what I think tomorrow.

Have a wonderful and blessed All Saints’ Day!

Groceries

I went out on Monday and was actually able to get a great shopping done. I needed to stock up on so much, and I had a ton of coupons. I actually saved just under $20.00 with them!

We also stopped for lunch at our little Chinese Buffet, and as I was getting some food I looked up and there was my doctor. I am actually due to go see him this week. We chatted a moment and then I wished him a good day.

A friend of mine many years ago, was a doctor, and he could hardly go out to get groceries without the little old ladies bugging him. So I have always backed off when seeing my doctors in restaurants.

Meanwhile, in the grocery store I met a man stocking the cheese shelves. He was having a tough day and I smiled and said, “Oh I so understand. I did this job for quite a while myself”. The man smiled and asked me where I had worked?

“Alexander’s Supermarket in Merrimack, New Hampshire.”

“Oh, said the man, I remember that place. My Mom took me there all the time when I was a kid before it closed”.

Yes, I now feel very old. This man looked about my age, but was obviously not.

We came home and put all those groceries away. Wow, were there so many! It felt good though. I have the house full of good foods, and as of Wednesday, it is back to Weight Watchers for me.

Put Your Thinking Cap On

Sunday found me feeling rather blah. I woke with a migraine and not much of an appetite. I was dragging around all morning, and about two o’clock in the afternoon, I lay down on my bed with a fleece throw and although I know the TV was on, I couldn’t really tell you much about the actual events.

I got up before the dogs needed to be fed and Hubby made me a nice fire in the hearth. I decided to cook an easy meal of London Broil, mashed potato, and Brussel Sprouts with bacon and onions.

I worked on a little quiz this afternoon. It will be fun to see who know what about me and my life!

What I Did This Past Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

This weekend I actually watched more football than I normally do. I know it is playoff season, but even I do not watch football until the Super Bowl. So this new habit of mine, of watching the playoffs, took me by surprise.

Hubby enjoys watching, so he usually does, but this year he has had me right by his side, cursing and swearing, when I thought a call went the wrong way.

Our team played the second game on Sunday and won 41-28! Now they advance to the AFC Championship and hopefully the Super Bowl!

I managed to get a few errands done this weekend around town. I needed to stop at the Pharmacy, and as they’d recently moved I had a chance to see their new store. I was shocked! In their previous store they had a lot of floor space and in the new store, only about a quarter of the space. I asked for some over the counter medication that I take and they do not carry it any more! I’m afraid that I will need to drive to the next town to find a good Pharmacy now.

I have decided to switch the dogs to treats that are only made in the USA. Previously I was not as careful and gave them ones that has been manufactured in China. After a few dog food scares with things made there, I am now reading all labels for my gang. (And myself too!)

As I was walking around the house this weekend I noted that we really need to paint the trim on our house. And guess who does that? I’m not crazy about heights, but it really needs to be done. Perhaps for the section over he garages, we can rent a cherry picker truck, so I have a firm platform.

I’ll be working this week at the Hair Salon. Just answering phones and making appointments and doing laundry and cleaning. My friend is ill, and this is one way I can help her out!

Have a great week Everyone!!!
