Happiness Challenge

Today’s happiness is a really good one. It’s one I’ve been waiting to share with you all, until I was certain.
The debris in my eye that has plagued me since my detached retina surgery nearly three years ago, is gone! I can see well, with no fog or cloudy areas in my vision. I have done tests on myself, hanging my head upside down, lying flat for several hours, staring down at my feet for long periods of time, all things I did before to check the amount of debris in the eye. The vision is clear!
So today I am happy about that, thankful and really looking forward to seeing my retinal surgeon next week so I can share the news with him. After all this time, and all these operations, I know he will be as happy as I am about this.
So here’s to good vision!

Dackel Princess!!!

It was brought to my attention that maybe some of you don’t know what Dackel means. That’s okay, until I got the girls I didn’t know either.
Dackel is the German word for Dachshund. It’s as simple as that.
Since both Shubi and Greta are German born I thought that it was appropriate to call my Blog page Dackel Princess after my girls!
Shubi is Bavarian born, and Greta was born in Northern Germany. Of course they have their doggie “green cards” now.

Wandering Thoughts

I’ve been trying to catch up on laundry, cleaning and correspondence today. So far, I’ve been doing okay, although I admit to feeling like I’m not getting much done. I wander into rooms and stand there trying to remember what I am doing there. But most of it is just frustration with myself. I’m just not feeling like me, and I want to be. I hate it when I have those “off” days. The kind when, no matter what you do, you just don’t feel like you know the person looking back at you from the mirror. Today is definitely one of those days.
I need a very long sleep. I need my batteries recharged, and I need a break. Ah-oh, major pity party going on here, huh? Got to cut that out. Now where was I???

Happiness Challenge

Per Megan’s request, here is my addition to the happiness challenge for today.

“All you have to do is one post a day on what made you happy that day. In this world full of negativity and hate; we need to take time to remember the positives in our lives. Happiness is a choice; I am hoping you will choose it!”

My doggies when they greeted me today when I came back home. My girls, Greta and Shubi can always make me smile. And Mr. Fritzi too.

Playing and Dancing and Eating

Yesterday we went to a big family gathering at our neighbors home. Everyone brought something to this party. My offering was a big bowl of home made potato salad. My neighbor’s are Greek so all the other offerings were wonderful and mostly Greek! Stuffed grape leaves, lamb kabobs, spinach pie, a meat and rice pie and the list of goodies goes on and on.
There were kids running all around playing, people talking and joking and laughing, and we really had such a good time.
After the food was done, we allowed the dogs to come out to play. It was so cute to watch all the kids with the dogs.

Gail fit right in with the family. And by the end of the day we were doing a Greek dance in the driveway!
I told my neighbor I have decided to become Greek. I love the dancing, I love the food and I love the music! She laughed and said I could!
We were there all day and by the time we came home we were all exhausted. We sat, allowing the meal we seemed to eat continuously throughout the day, to digest, and watched a movie before going to bed. I swear this morning I am still full from all the food I ate yesterday. (definitely did not stay on my diet!) Oh, what a glorious time I had!

Dackel Princess at Loon!

Yesterday after a wonderful feast at The Greek Festival, in Laconia, we came back home to collect the dogs and go back out on a hike at Loon Mountain. Unfortunately, I got a migraine and wound up staying home with Miss Greta, while Hubby and Gail took Fritz and the Dackel Princess, Shubi over to Loon. They rode the gondola up, enjoyed the views, hiked around before coming down and driving home over the mountains.

Mount Chocorua

Here we are posing in front of beautiful Mount Chocorua. We’re having the best weather for Gail’s visit and so our day trips have been really enjoyable.

Today we are going to a Greek festival in Laconia. It’s one of my favorite yearly events. Our friends are members of this church and we always attend to support their efforts, and enjoy the wonderful food!!!!!

Friends

How many people are lucky enough to have a life long friend?
I met my friend Gail when I was 13 years old. We’d both been sent to a summer camp through our local churches. I think we both felt some sort of connection to God back then, but it wasn’t terribly defined.
So there we were, two awkward 13 year old girls. We thought we were all grown up and knew it all. And I think we had this idea of what our lives were going to be.
Of course we were very, very wrong.
