Well as much as I wanted, Sunday was not a quiet day. It started nicely enough, as I listened to music and crocheted.

“An Affair To Remember” came on TCM, and I enjoyed watching that for the millionth time! I always sit here are ask myself if Deborah Kerr’s last name is pronounced Car or Ker? Jack says it is Car. Anyway, I cried like a baby at the end, as I always do.

Then Jack got sick and I was busy with all of that. I still do not know how I raised two children. I do not handle cleaning up after a sick person well. But such is life. I somehow managed.

I need to call the Vet at 8:30 as Anneliese is having a problem. I’m not sure what it is, but I fear it is more to do with her breast cancer problem spreading.

I have been away at my daughter’s soon to be old house, helping her get ready to move into her new house. It’s amazing how much work there is to be done when you move 4 people and a dog and a cat a few miles down the road!

Fortunately, I pack things pretty well. I worked with Mandy in her kitchen and unfortunately, I packed up all the kid’s small plastic cereal bowls! Eeek! But I saved the day. I got the plastic cups I saved and put their cereal in there! Problem solved! After all, they officially move mid-week and the bowls will be unpacked!

We made several trips over to the new house and ate almost all meals out except the wonderful breakfast Mandy made with the few pots that we’d left out. Eggs, bacon, and pancakes! Yum!

I packed up early on Monday when Mandy went to work, the kids went to school and I hit the road stopping to grocery shop, and get gas. Since I had gotten some of BJ’s Warehouse super coupon items I knocked my gas bill down from $238.9 a gallon to $158.9 a gallon! Seeing that on my sales slip made me smile. Especially since I actually use the soap liquid, paper towels, plastic garbage bags and toilet paper that got me the reduction. Oh yes, and I used their store coupons which totaled about $20.00! Gosh, I love a good sale and a bargain!

Jack and the pooches were happy to see me. The feeling was entirely mutual!

I was home for a short time when an old friend knocked on our door. The son of a Pan Am pilot, who was very much like a father to Jack and me. We sat around telling stories about his Dad and visiting. It was a nice afternoon.

So, it was a very full weekend, spent with my loves and I enjoyed every moment.

Our weekend was a pretty quiet one. I was feeling so much better from the cold I had, while Jack was in the early stages of coming down with a cold.

I did laundry and cleaned and cooked a wonderful Sauerbraten. I cleaned my closet, went to the Recycling Center and prepared several bags of shoes, coats, blankets, shirts, and towels to bring to the Charity Shop.

Jack slept. He got out of bed, came out to his chair and slept some more. In between, he coughed and sneezed and then slept some more.

Due to his sleeping, I was the master of the remote control! I actually watched what I wanted to see! Yay, me!

We have now had a couple of hard frosts, and we also had a wind storm that came through and blew away a large portion of our leaves. It seems that the peak of our Autumn is now over. As is the Foliage Train. Today was the last day the trains will run for the year.

The coming week finds me being quiet. I’m sure I will be caring for Jack while he recovers from the cold.

So many beautiful thoughts have been passing through my mind over the weekend. As I drove down to Mandy and Matt’s, spent time with my grandchildren, walked the dogs, and just spent time gazing out the window, there were so many really amazing things.

• The leaves are turning color here and there is a feeling of warmth that comes with gazing at the various colors.

  The leaves brighten your way as you drive down the road. It’s my favorite time of year!

• Ah, my grandchildren. It’s wonderful to walk into my daughter’s home and have her children and their dog comes running to greet me. Hugs and kisses, and their squeals of joy let me know how much I am loved!

  And their dog Freya is always full of love and kisses too!

  

• I was able to stop in at my favorite shop and get a new pair of pants and a new shirt. Retail Therapy always makes me happy!
• When I came back home, despite the fact that my dishwasher is broken, yet again, I was able to sit and enjoy my birds. The Cardinals were back, the Downey Woodpecker, and the Hairy Woodpecker, and the Chickadees. What a joy to discover the birds at this time in my life. What happiness I have found in feeding them.
•  Jack wanted to go out and get a bottle of Scotch at the State Liquor Store. So we got the two dackels ready and off we went. We got there just in time to see Arnie and Anneliese’s best friend. She always has cookies for them!
• Life is full of surprises. Good ones, that’s for sure. All you need to do is look around and you will find all sorts of amazing things.

I was fairly busy over the weekend. I saw so many of my dearest loved ones, but I also found myself driving all over the State of New Hampshire to accomplish all this.

Usually, I do not mind driving around, and actually, the road conditions have improved and the weather was beautiful, but I passed by a fatal accident and that was upsetting.

I had a wonderful time with my sister and cousins as we celebrated my cousin, Rikki’s marriage to her Joe. What a wonderful man he is. I sat across from him at the luncheon and we talked and talked. I immediately felt very comfortable with him.

We all agreed that this was so much fun and we need to arrange these get-togethers more often.

After the luncheon, I was off to my daughter’s home to babysit the children +1. Savi had a friend over for the night. This was great and we had a lot of fun!

I read stories to the kids, as well as poetry from a book that my Mom used to read to me. Savannah really enjoyed that. She told me how much she liked the poems and the sound of my voice while I read them.

I drove home early on Sunday and spent the day spoiling Jack and the pups. They all had missed me, which was very nice.

After lunch, I continued my binge-watching of Downton Abbey. I just love this show! How am I the only person in the world who missed it when it was on PBS? Well, it is nice to binge-watch as I can go at my own speed.

So the weekend is over and I am happy and tired. It will be an early bedtime for sure!

It was a rather strange weekend. I actually got quite a bit done. Since we moved into this house we have had a row of boxes on the back wall of the garage. I started going through them!

I found clothing from long, long, ago. In fact, I have not worn these things in over 35 years! I remembered them, and some did not exactly bring back good memories.

Since I had not seen them, or used them, in all this time, I put them in a giant trash bag and off they went on Sunday to the Recycling Center!

I also found odds and ends from Jack’s mother’s house and I kept just a couple of things, but the majority also went to the Recycling Center!

Laundry was done, beds were changed and meals prepared. The usual day to day things.

On Saturday, as I sat eating my breakfast, I looked outside to the bird feeder and there sat the most beautiful male Cardinal I have ever seen! He sat there gazing in the window at me, and I reached for my cell phone to try for a picture, but Lili moved and off Mr. Cardinal flew!

Sunday morning, at breakfast, Mr. Baltimore Oriole came and he also sat nicely for a visit. I suspect he is the one in the picture above and below. He has been here all summer enjoying the goodies I put out for the birds.

This weekend also saw both Lili and Arnie snuggling up to me at every possible moment. Not together mind you, but it seems they are taking turns.

I’m still reading and enjoying my book. There are 405 pages to read in this hardcover book! But it is so well written and researched that I am still reading with joy!

For me, it was a really busy weekend.

I knew I  had grocery shopping to do, (Friday),  Laundry to do, (both Saturday and Sunday), beds to change, (Sunday), and cooking to do, (all three days).

I decided to do something novel. Instead of just working myself into a frenzy, I would work on something until a certain task was complete, then I sat down to read a new book I have, “Alice, PrincessAndrew of Greece” by Hugo Vickers. I would read for an hour and then go back to whatever project I was doing. It made the time spent cleaning and cooking go much faster.

Because it was also very hot and very humid, at one point I didn’t want to be outside so I found a lovely movie on Amazon Prime TV with James Garner and Julie Andrew. It was called “One Special Night”.

 It was a love story about two people in their 70’s. Well being 70 is ten years away for me (close enough) so this appealed to the romantic in me in a new way. I could relate to the Seniors in the film. Plus I love Julie Andrew and James Garner both.

It’s another hot and humid day here on Monday. Ugh! Worst of all, I have a doctors appointment in Manchester, so I will be off at 9:30 to drive south.

Sunday found me feeling a calm need to get a few things done. I had laundry to do, unexciting, and potatoes that required me to do something now before they started to sprout.

So I threw a load of clothes in and came upstairs to put on a pot of potatoes to cook for Potato Salad.

Then I started to chop. I chopped onions, celery, green peppers, red peppers, and mushrooms. I cooked up some of this for breakfast omelets, and saved the rest for later.

After breakfast, the potatoes were cooked and after peeling the warm potatoes I put them in the fridge to cool down, Meanwhile, I boned a rotisserie chicken I’d cooked last night, sliced some of the meat and then made chicken salad with the smaller bite-size pieces.

I was on a roll. My creative juices were flowing and as I went from one recipe to the next I truly amazed myself!

I prepared lunch and now I am just waiting to finish up my cooking day with a light dinner. Steak and potato salad for Jack and Cod-fish and corn for me.

Oh yes, and the laundry got washed, dried and put away (all in one day!). So I am feeling pretty good about all of that!

Plus we watched the 4 hours and 55 minutes Men’s Wimbledon Final! What a match it was! Both players were working so hard to win, and really, it could have gone either way. Congratulations Novak Djokovic!

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, (Kate) who is the Patron of Wimbledon, presented the tournament trophy. I was so surprised but very pleased as well. Kate is such an asset to the Royal Family and I really like her relaxed way of handling situations that are new to her.
