It Was A Thrill!

On a beautiful October day Hubby and I went to the Weirs Beach Boardwalk to hear Governor Sarah Palin speak. She is a breath of fresh air in a campaign that is filled with career politicians. Gov. Palin was speaking and a woman near me turned to me and said, “You know, she is one of us. She knows how hard it is to put food on the table for your family, she knows what it means to be humble”.

Quite true. Unlike the other candidates, Gov. Palin grew up normally. She was your average girl next door, worked hard to get herself through college in Idaho and then went back to the state that she loved (Alaska) and married her High School sweetheart. She worked with him to feed their family, by working on her husband’s fishing boat, as well as taking care of their children.

I know that there are many of you who do not like this woman, but there is one thing you cannot deny, and that is that Gov. Palin has spent all of her life working very hard, for her family, for her state and for her country.

As I listened to her today I had hope. Hope that there is really someone out there in politics that believes in us, the United States Citizens!

She does not believe we need more government. She doesn’t believe that we need to raise taxes. And she certainly doesn’t believe that the government should be telling you how to spend your money.

We already pay too much in taxes!!!

Is she qualified to be president? Well first she isn’t running for president, but if she were I would say this, she actually has more experience in the political world than Barack Obama does, and I’d like to see just how well Sen. Obama would do getting through a winter in a place as challenging as Alaska.

Alaska is one of the most beautiful places I have been to! But it’s beauty is tempered with the vastness of the countryside, and the ruggedness of the glaciers. Winters are long, cold and the snow is deep. Summers are short. You learn early on how to take care of yourself and your family.

So I watched her, I listened to her and to those around me and I felt good. Here are a few photo’s of the event.

I do not write about politics on Dackel Princess nor do I make comments on other blogs because I have felt such a terrible hateful intolerance from so many people. However, when I listen to people make statements against a woman such as Sarah Palin, who is a strong, intelligent, decent, and capable woman, I felt that I had to share with you how I feel. She may not belong to the political party you belong to, but she is one heck of a person.

I wish we had more people like her getting involved in politics today. We need more real people going into that, not professional hacks that are being turned out by Ivy League Colleges and ACORN.

  1. Thanks! I am Glad you got to hear her speak and see her in person. No matter what party you belong to or which candidate you support it is important to be educated about each person who is running! Love YOU, Mel

  2. Ya know what I liked BEST about this post? You didn’t resort to BASHING anybody! You stated your opinion in a friendly and POSITIVE manner! Thank you! As I commented somewhere else yesterday… (about listening the commercials) … If all of these people are as horrible as the other says they are – how did ANY of them get to where they ARE??? They’ve obviously ALL been successful in governing in one manner or another… otherwise they would not have been chosen by their representative party… Right?

  3. I am unable to find a woman friendly and nice who loves to kill animals, loves hunting and has a quite contradictory opinion of women’s rights. I still think that I decide if I want or don’t want to be a mother and that no government has the right to interfere in my personal believes. (who takes care of all these unwanted, beaten, burnt, starving children ? ) I think this woman is dangerous. She never was outside the States and her general knowledges are rather limited. Maybe I am influenced by the European opinion and what I hear here. But one thing is for sure outside the States NOBODY wants her !
You are right and I am right or we are both right or not, but that is always the same when it comes to politics, lol !

  4. Wow, I never thought I would have to disagree with you on something, but I have a similar view as Gattina – which might be because I am German/European as well 😉 – and I find Sarah Palin rather dangerous and definitely not fit for the job in the White House, even though I won’t deny her efforts in her own state.

But it’s good to see that people get out to listen to what the candidates have to say and to make up their own mind.
I wish I could vote, but as a permanent resident, I am not allowed to, even though the administration effects me as much as anybody else who lives in this country. It angers me if people, who have the right to vote, don’t pratice this freedom.

  5. What does “getting through a winter in a place as challenging as Alaska” have to do with the price of tea in China? Oh, and didn’t hubby graduate from an Ivy League college? Hmmm…
We’ll have to agree to disagree on Palin.

  6. Hubby graduated from a “Little Ivy League” college here in New England. He worked hard and did well, not only in school but in life. And I am very proud of him.
He told me that one thing he learned early on at this school was that “the ends do not justify the means”.
Honesty, respect for other people’s ideas and serving your country, which he did, in the military for 5 years are important to him and to me.

  7. I respect you for voicing your opinion. I find it humorous how other’s get defensive, mad, or dare I say angry when they discover that someone’s opinion differs from their own.
I am sorry but the fact that Gattina said she doesn’t like a woman who kills animals in one breath and then indicates that what a woman wants to do with her body is her choice (meaning abortion) is contradictory. So, don’t kill animals but kill babies? Hmm!
I am not judgemental. I will never act as judge and jury toward someone, what they do is between theirselves and God.
This earth is not our home; it is an avenue to our home. If the choices you (meaning anyone) make in life sit in your conscience well and you feel at the end of this life and the beginning of the next you will have no reservations explaining why you believed what you believed (regardless of what that may be) then all the power to you.
Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, there is only one being that knows whose opinion is the right one and not until we meet that being will we know who was right or wrong.
I am no Lilly white and I will be judged the same as the man behind me. To chastise another’s opinion is in my “opinion” a way to convince yourself that you are better than the person disagreeing with you.
God Bless you, God Bless our country! May the best man win, who that is …I have my opinion (:)) but am I right, who knows?

  8. I respect your opinion of her, but I do disagree on the fact that she is not running for president.

In some way, she is – she’s our backup president. Let’s say that we’re talking about cars. And both cars are equally important because you MUST have a car to drive your loved ones long distances. You of course want to have a great car as your main car. If your second car is actually a bike—its’ not effective.
It might be a really great bike…but it’s not a car. So why would you get that bike as a backup for your car? You wouldn’t.
Sarah Palin might be a great mother, woman, PTA member, sportswoman, dresser, yoga partner, friend. She is not however ready to run a country—and the vice president MUST be ready for this.
I think I would enjoy hearing her speak, and would probably somewhat like to just hang out with her and have some good long talks, maybe with a glass of wine and our respective scrapbooks….but I would not want her to be in the highest position of our government.

I certainly don’t feel negatively towards her–she just isn’t the right person.
She’s def a great bike, not a great car. 🙂

  9. I have to say that I am a whole hearted, card carrying, Massachusetts liberal who thinks that Sarah Palin has a beautiful family. I will not vote for John McCain because I disagree with most of what he now stands for. 8 years ago, I may have had a different opinion. I saw a flash of the man I once respected last week when he spoke as himself, I think, and stopped a woman in his crowd who had gone too far. I was an Air Force brat, my dad was in for 30 years and I saw what a war can do to a person, especially a war we had no business being in. He would disagree with me, but that is the beauty of living in a country where everyone has their say!
I think that having a highly educated president is something to aspire too, since we are a country that the world once looked up. Hopefully it will again. I don’t hate Sara Palin, I just think she belongs in Alaska, not in Washington! Love ya Maribeth!
