Prepping For The Big Day

So, I’m in the planning stages for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is my most favorite meal of the year, and even though it will just be Hubby and me, I still plan to cook a complete meal.

Today, I started planning out the menu and making a grocery list. Oh, I can taste the turkey and stuffing already!

Here is the menu:

  • Turkey. Fresh and roasted to crispy skinned perfection!
  • A fabulous home made chestnut stuffing. I roasted chestnuts on Monday and they are the key ingredient to my stuffing! I wait each year for this and I am never disappointed!
  • Mashed Yukon Gold Potatoes.
  • Mashed Butternut Squash, with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar.
  • Brussel Sprouts, with bacon and onions.
  • Yummy turkey gravy.
  • Cranberry orange relish.
  • Fresh apple pie and vanilla ice cream!

Can we say, yum, a yum, a yum, a yum!!!

Today I will finish the shopping and on Wednesday I will do all the peeling and chopping. Then, on Thursday, I just need to cook everything up.

What are you all planning to do for the holidays? What are your “have to” items for Thanksgiving?

  1. sounds absolutely incredible! we’ve had our share of thanksgivings for 2 before we had kids and while we lived far from home due to the military … and honestly, they are my favorite. I haven’t cooked a real tgiving meal in years and I miss it so much 🙁 we always have to (“get to”) go to the in-laws.

  2. No matter how many are around the table I still need to make all the sides or someone is disappointed : ) There will be five for dinner…must haves-cornbread dressing, brussel sprouts cooked with pancetta, corn pudding, two kinds of potatoes, cranberry relish…and of course the turkey!

    Happy cooking!

  3. Of course I’ll be making the Chestnut stuffing. I am making a cranberry Apricot relish. It is wonderful! Of course turkey and pies. Love YOU, Mel

  4. Our must-haves are green bean casserole, pumpkin bread, and stuffing with sausage, onions, and celery. I’m almost done prepping everything so that all I will need to do is finish cooking the sides and make the turkey, potatoes, and gravy. It’s also my favorite meal of the year, although to be honest, I hardly eat anything at the table. I’m usually too full! But, I always ensure enough extras to duplicate the meal for the rest of the holiday weekend :o)
