Questions for a Friday: A Divine Vacation

From Megan (well actually by my cousin Janet, Fondofelves, but…)

Do you take a vacation every year? Yes. We try to get away maybe fishing or visiting old friends.

Where is your favorite place to vacation and while you’re there, do you prefer a secluded cabin in the woods, a luxury condo in the city, a highrise by the ocean, etc., etc? I like to go and live simply. Maybe a guest house (B&B) or staying with friends. I like small villages and pretty scenery. My favorite spot is a small village in Bavaria.

If you had to choose between Paris and New Orleans for a vacation, which would you choose and why? And let’s spice it up: on this vacation, would you prefer to take Brad Pitt (or in my case, Severus Snape, Robert Plant or Johnny Depp) or Angelina Joli or your current significant other along? New Orleans. I love Jazz music. And I would take Hubby. He loves Jazz even more than me!

While on vacation, do you like to completely get away from it all, or do you like to check in from time to time, on your blog, or your emails, etc., etc. Oh no. I’m so addicted to the Internet and stuff that I literally beg for permission to use peoples phone lines, etc. Got to stay in touch online!

If you had 10 grand to blow on a vaca, where would it be? {thanks, Pimpaloo!) That would be Northern Europe. Like Germany, Italy, Switzlerland, Austria, etc. I just love it there.

Random Friday Thoughts

It’s 2 AM and I’m awake. Why is that? I woke up and got out of bed and immediately tripped over Fritz, who was lying next to my side of the bed. Then when I came back into our room, I couldn’t sleep. So I got up.
I’m usually a good sleeper. So this is quite odd for me. Maybe it’s the meteor shower we are having, but can’t see due to the clouds.
I went for a long walk yesterday in the heat and I think I dehydrated myself. So I have a huge bottle of iced tea in hand and I am sipping that. I wish I were a big drinker, but I just am not, so in this heat, a long walk is a bad combination.
I decided to rearrange my family room furniture yesterday. I was really happy with it until I found that my wifi coverage stinks. So, first thing tomorrow it all goes back the way it was!
I got a post that my 30th High School Reunion is next summer. I enjoyed my last one, so I will probably go. I think it is interesting to see how people have turned out all these years later!
Well, I guess I will try to sleep a little more.

Tuesday and Todays Happiness Challenge

I am 20 pages from finishing Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince. So what am I doing here writing to all of you instead of in the familyroom reading? Well, you see, once I finsih the book, it’s over, and I will have to wait another year or two until we get the last story in this tale of our hero, Harry.

My Happiness Challenge for today is my eye doctor’s visit. As I told you all before, I know that the debris is pretty much gone from my eye. Today I got to share the news with the man responsible for my recovery. Four and a half years ago another eye doctor removed a cataract and messed up my eye. My current doctor has repaired it all and although it has taken three years, he never gave up. So I am happy and grateful for the vision I have and the end of surgeries.

Saturday Thoughts

There is nothing worse than waiting for two week for an order of stuff you got on sale, only to find that it doesn’t fit right! After struggling with a diet and maintenance program, I am a perfect size medium. Everywhere I go, I pick up a medium and it fits perfectly. Not so this one sweater. Oh well, I am not crazy about the color now I have seen it in real life. Somehow colors look decidedly different on a computer screen.
And I ordered boots for winter. I ordered a half size larger thinking that with extra socks I would need the extra room. Well guess what? The boots are too small with just one pair of socks on! Disaster #2.
At least the third item, a shirt, size MEDIUM fits perfectly! And the color is the prettiest robins egg blue.
There is at least one up side to all of this. I didn’t have to pay for shipping, and I can return it to the local outlet store nearby. So it’s a wash monetarily.

Here is todays Happiness Challenge:
Seeing my neighbor at the Post Office, giving him a hug, (he is 87 1/2 years old) and knowing that I made his day!

Happiness Challenge

Today’s happiness is a really good one. It’s one I’ve been waiting to share with you all, until I was certain.
The debris in my eye that has plagued me since my detached retina surgery nearly three years ago, is gone! I can see well, with no fog or cloudy areas in my vision. I have done tests on myself, hanging my head upside down, lying flat for several hours, staring down at my feet for long periods of time, all things I did before to check the amount of debris in the eye. The vision is clear!
So today I am happy about that, thankful and really looking forward to seeing my retinal surgeon next week so I can share the news with him. After all this time, and all these operations, I know he will be as happy as I am about this.
So here’s to good vision!

Dackel Princess!!!

It was brought to my attention that maybe some of you don’t know what Dackel means. That’s okay, until I got the girls I didn’t know either.
Dackel is the German word for Dachshund. It’s as simple as that.
Since both Shubi and Greta are German born I thought that it was appropriate to call my Blog page Dackel Princess after my girls!
Shubi is Bavarian born, and Greta was born in Northern Germany. Of course they have their doggie “green cards” now.

Wandering Thoughts

I’ve been trying to catch up on laundry, cleaning and correspondence today. So far, I’ve been doing okay, although I admit to feeling like I’m not getting much done. I wander into rooms and stand there trying to remember what I am doing there. But most of it is just frustration with myself. I’m just not feeling like me, and I want to be. I hate it when I have those “off” days. The kind when, no matter what you do, you just don’t feel like you know the person looking back at you from the mirror. Today is definitely one of those days.
I need a very long sleep. I need my batteries recharged, and I need a break. Ah-oh, major pity party going on here, huh? Got to cut that out. Now where was I???

Playing and Dancing and Eating

Yesterday we went to a big family gathering at our neighbors home. Everyone brought something to this party. My offering was a big bowl of home made potato salad. My neighbor’s are Greek so all the other offerings were wonderful and mostly Greek! Stuffed grape leaves, lamb kabobs, spinach pie, a meat and rice pie and the list of goodies goes on and on.
There were kids running all around playing, people talking and joking and laughing, and we really had such a good time.
After the food was done, we allowed the dogs to come out to play. It was so cute to watch all the kids with the dogs.

Gail fit right in with the family. And by the end of the day we were doing a Greek dance in the driveway!
I told my neighbor I have decided to become Greek. I love the dancing, I love the food and I love the music! She laughed and said I could!
We were there all day and by the time we came home we were all exhausted. We sat, allowing the meal we seemed to eat continuously throughout the day, to digest, and watched a movie before going to bed. I swear this morning I am still full from all the food I ate yesterday. (definitely did not stay on my diet!) Oh, what a glorious time I had!
