Wrap Up

I’ve been off in my own little world for the last few days for various reasons. The best reason is that I got to spend Saturday with my favorite three and a half year old little girl, Miss Savannah Rose!

As time draws near, for Savi’s baby brother to arrive, her parents decided to go out and have a real date day. I got there at lunch time, and stayed overnight.

And oh, what fun we had!

We danced, we played dress up, we read books, we played with jigsaw puzzles, and when Oma was tired, we watched Cartoon movies.

Even Oma dresses up.

I made her dinner. You know, the kind of dinner that all Oma’s are good at. I made chicken nuggets, corn and wait for it…..potato puffs!

Savi ate everything, and for dessert, I had brought a mini chocolate cake, and she got a piece of that! I mean, how good does it get?

About 8:15 I started reading books to her, and she lay in bed and listened to my words. I am not a great person to read out loud, but Savi does not seem to notice and loves it when I read to her.

By 8:30 she was nestled, all snug in her bed, and drifted off to sleep. I went down to the kitchen, popped open a beer and then sat quietly and watched the Australian Open match between Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber. All I can say it that the match was incredible, and it could have gone either way. In the end Kerber won, and I was in awe of both of these talented women.

Mandy and Matt got in about 10 PM and we talked for a bit before Mandy and I hit the hay. I love their guest room bed, and I slept pretty well.

This morning I was up and gone pretty early, stopping for gas at a local Warehouse Club ($1.65 a gallon!) before arriving home to my happy husband and four happy doggies!

Savi The Dancing Girl

Since I have not figured out how to upload a photo from my phone to Flickr and then to my blog, I wasn’t able to share these until this morning. These are, what I call, my dancing Savannah photos!

She was so excited to be at her ballet class. I love her little leotard and soft ballet shoes. I mean, is there anything sweeter than a little one in a tutu?

Savannah loves to try new things. She is almost fearless in that pursuit. I love her steely determination, and positive attitude.

I really enjoy these Oma and Savannah moments, and I wouldn’t trade that time for anything in the world!

Ballerina Savannah

Yesterday I drove down to watch Savannah in her ballet/tap dance class. First, look at this adorable picture. Cute, right?

She was so adorable, as she participated in the class. I know a lot of people do not believe in pre-school for children, but Savannah has been going for a couple of years now, and it has taught her so much. Probably the number one thing, is to be patient, when dealing with groups of other children, and not to be afraid of trying new things. One poor child, had an absolute melt-down sobbing, and what was even worse, was that her mother (stage mother) was not kind to her at all. This is not the best shot, but they kept Mommy’s and grandmothers in a room with a little TV. This was the best I could do from the little TV. Savi is in the black leotard and black skirt!

Now here is a terrible story, of a terrible grandmother. While we were waiting for class, the door was open and a mosquito flew in and landed on Savannah’s arm. I saw it, and not thinking hit the mosquito, not hard, but enough to squish the mosquito. Savannah looked at me so shocked! Oh I felt like a terrible person. I immediately apologized and then showed her the mosquito in my hand. (She is terribly allergic to them and really swells up.) So I told her she had a free one. She could hit my arm. So she did. Then Mommy explained that it isn’t right to hit people. Like I said…Oma fail!

We went to breakfast, and talked and talked. Savannah’s vocabulary is expanding every day and she is quite amazing.

Soon it was time to say goodbye and head home. We hugged and kissed, and yesterday was the first time Savannah didn’t want me to leave. That made me smile all day long and even this morning, as I write.

Savannah & The Tea Party

Monday was a totally awesome day. I drove down to my daughter’s house early, to take care of Savannah, due to a day of teacher’s conferences.

I packed my tea set, and things to make tea sandwiches, and cookies to bake with Savannah. From the moment I told her what we’d be doing, until after we had our party, were we non-stop doing food preparation.

The best, was when she climbed up on a chair, and helped me with everything, from cutting out the cookies into little hearts, to using the cookie cutters to  cut the sandwiches into various shapes and sizes.

Soon we were able to sit down at the table and share our little tea party! What a wonderful time for Oma and her girl!

Our first attempt at a tea party was a great success!

Cinderella

Saturday was a special day in my life.  You see, today, I watched the 1960’s version of Cinderella  with my granddaughter, Savannah.

From the time I was a little girl, I have loved this presentation. I still know all of the songs  and some of the dialog.  To me this was always the best.

So when I saw the DVD for sale, I bought  a copy.  And then I waited until the right time to sit down and watch it with her.

What can I say? This was one of the most important days so far as an Oma. To take something that I loved so much and give it to Savannah to cherish, was just incredibly special! Savannah danced and hummed and she too, fell in love today.

This, my friends, is what being an Oma is all about.

Sharing the love.

Sweet!

Last night was something very special. I was babysitting my granddaughter, Savannah, and when the time came to go to bed, she was reluctant to go to bed in her room.

“Can I sleep with you, Oma?” she asked.

Sure. After getting our nightgowns on, we went up to the guest room, and I read three stories. One was very funny, because it was about Mr. & Mrs. Birdie who find an egg in their nest and feel they must adopt it. After weeks of keeping it warm, their baby birdie is born, and it is an allagator!  It’s a sweet story, and fortunately the allagator is a friendly one!

Soon it was time for lights out, and all we had was the glimmer of light from the hallway. Savi played silouettes against the wall with her hands, and then she finally settled in, and slowly, but surely, her breathing became light and regular, as she drifted off to sleep.

I lay on my side, watching her sweet face. Her long eye lashes gently brushed her cheeks. Her lips were puckered like a cupie doll. Her hands lay on her chest and I noticed the little dimples across her hands.

I think I must be the luckiest Oma on the face of the earth!

Great Day

So Thursday was a great day.  The weather was perfect for a lovely drive to my daughter’s house. I stopped at a grocery store and picked up a few things, and got to their place  at lunch time.  We girls  had  Lobster  and Matt had a steak.  Then we all put on our swimsuits and went into the pool.

Savannah had on her life jacket swimsuit and today she worked with Daddy and Mommy and she learned to kick her feet and move through the water! She was in the pool for two hours and she was working so hard.

Mandy and Matt left for some time out  and Savi and I played dolls, ate dinner and then it got very quiet. Seems Miss Savannah climbed up on the sofa and fell asleep. She is such a sweetheart.

I head home after breakfast and will stop for a few things along the way.

TGIF!!!!

Third Birthday-Pool Party

Today is Savannah’s actual birthday, but we celebrated it yesterday at Mandy and Matt’s with a cook-out, pool party!  The weather was perfect, and since it was really hot, almost everyone jumped into the pool!

I loved watching Matt, as he is slowly teaching Savi how to be comfortable in the pool. He is so patient and loving, and she holds on tight. What a great Daddy he is!

Unfortunately, there are not many pictures of Mandy in the montage, as she was running about making sure that everything went along smoothly. She is such a terrific hostess and a fabulous Mommy!

The family was there, as were friends with kids. I think birthday parties are even better when there are kids with cake and ice cream and delightfully messy faces!

So here we are, with this years Birthday Video. Savannah Rose, Third Birthday Pool Party Video!
