Friday Five

The week raced by me, as I was pretty busy and not paying attention to much. Actually I was paying attention to a few things, but somehow sitting down and writing about them just didn’t happen. So here are 5 things from my week.

P3300006 (2)

  1. The most important thing was that I got to drive down, visit with my daughter and grandson, and hold sweet Quinn in my arms. He is three weeks old now, but still curls into the fetal position, and snuggles warmly against your heart. He has the fairest of blondish/reddish hair and very light eyes. So very handsome. I held this little guy close to me and my heart grew three sizes at least! Being an Oma to two beautiful and healthy children is a dream come true for me.
  2. My daughter is looking wonderful. Quinn’s birth was tough on her, but she finally has color back in her cheeks and is feeling better. I will tell you that I admire my daughter so much. Amanda is an amazing woman!
  3. I need a root canal. I am not happy about it, (who is) but I trust my Endodontist so much, that I am not worried about it too much. Trust me, I am looking forward to the end of pain.
  4. My little old Lady Greta is having a few little health problems and I have spent more time at the Vet’s this week than I really wanted. However, I understand that this is a problem I can take care of with daily medication. Greta is my girl and I will do anything to make her life happier and healthier.
  5. Today is skin cancer screening day. I will go over, strip naked, and have my entire body checked. My Dermatologist is a lovely lady, and I have every confidence in her.

So, it’s been a busy week, and I am looking forward to a rather quiet and relaxed weekend. I have a few small projects to work on, but I also would like to enjoy some reading time and some movie time.

Whatever your weekend plans may be, I hope you have a really good time!

The Hubby Edition

Time is flying by. In short order, March will be over and with the start of April, Hubby and I will celebrate 28 years of marriage. It still amazes me. Not that we have been married that long, but well, it has flown by, and it seems like just the other day that we said “I Do.”

So here’s my Friday Five: The Hubby Edition.

  1. I’ve known Hubby a long time. We were friends for years, before our first marriages ended and even then, it took a while for us to date.
  2. One thing I learned from this is that friendship is so important in a long term relationship. I cannot imagine being with someone for this long, if I didn’t like them too!
  3. No matter if I am home, or traveling around the world, Hubby is the first person I want to speak with in the morning, and the last person I want to talk to at night.
  4. Hubby was there for me as a friend, when no one else was. He didn’t tell me what to do, or anything. He listened. This taught me a great lesson. There will be times in your life that being a good listener is the greatest gift you can give.
  5. With this man, I have finally understood what real love is. I thought I knew, but real love is a combination of so many things. And I have been lucky enough to find this deep and abiding love, with my Hubby.

Friday Five

The biggest news of the week is that Quinn was born on Monday. He is a good baby, and very handsome. My daughter has been pretty exhausted since giving birth, but at the same time, they are both so happy to finally meet their son. So here we go with the Friday Five, Birth List.

  • Quinn was due to come Monday morning at 7:30 AM via C-section. But this little guy had other plans, and Mandy went into labor in the evening of the 6th.
  • It was not what anyone had hoped, as the actual c-section was really tough, but Quinn was born at 5:14 AM and weighed in at 7 lbs 13 oz and is 22 inches long.
  • He is a handsome boy and resembles his sister, Savannah Rose. However, where Savi had darker hair, Quinn is very blond and fair.

Savannah is on the left and Quinn on the right.

  • My daughter continues to amaze me. Even though I know she is tired and sore, she never says a word to complain, and she has done a great job caring for this new little man, despite the fact that she is, herself, recovering.
  • It looks like she and Quinn will come home today from the hospital. Once Savannah gets home from school, they will be a family of four in their own little house.

Matt’s mom and I have held down the fort. When our kids are ready, we also will head to our homes. But it has been so much fun being part of this happy time.

The Happiness Addition

Here we are, the end of another week. Yet as the weekend draws near, my excitement builds, as first thing Monday morning, my daughter and her fiancé will welcome their son. I will be down south, awaiting this birth, with Savannah and her Nana and Auntie, and when Mandy and Matt are ready, we will all drive to the hospital to meet the wee young man.

So without further ado, here are this weeks happy Friday Five!

  1. It’s been pretty cold this week and we have had several fires in our fireplace. Since I’ve been going out to walk Greta and Anneliese, I can stand, staring at the stars and smelling the sweet scent of burning wood. It’s part of why I love winter here.
  2. I also love watching Greta with the fire in the hearth. She loves it. She will lie in front and soak up all the heat. If I were in better condition, I too would lie on the floor in from of the fire!
  3. I have a new toy. It’s an App I downloaded on my phone and on my computer. It’s called BeFunky, and it helps you to edit photos and make collages and all sorts of fun stuff. Since I never could figure out Instagram, I found this exceptionally easy to use. And the App is free!
  4. Hubby and I went out today to a discount shop, where they sell European foods. Hubby was so happy to find all sorts of salads and pickles and risotto’s. Me too. Some things are so easy to use to make nice meals.
  5. I am feeling very happy with how my neck is healing. I took a picture today, and here I am two and a half months since the surgery, and the incision is nearly gone. See!

Friday Five

I decided that for the next month I am going to write about 5 things that are happening to me, or around me, that is fabulous and wonderful! So without further ado, here is this weeks five.

  1. We are now nice days until my daughter’s due date with her baby boy! I sleep with my cell phone, I shower with my cell phone on the shelf, and I go everywhere with my phone hooked to my belt. I’m not excited or anything! LOL
  2. Lili is now responding to me when I talk to her. If she is outside and I go out, I call to her and say “Are you coming?” and she comes right to me! After all this time, she is following me!
  3. I simply have the most adorable grandniece ever! Here is little April, and she is 5 months old and the apple of our eyes!
  4. 12768311_1149363471748572_7226108327450035786_o

  5. I am one day away from finishing the office cleaning project! For more years than I care to admit, I have put off doing a deep clean. This year I turned on Pandora, and just did it!
  6. I decided that I need to get up every day and put on a little make-up. I’ve never been a big make-up wearer, but I feel better with a little bit on.

So that’s my first week of happiness, on the Friday Five. See you next week, for the next installment!

Friday Five

Another week has flown by and there is so much going on. So here are the top five things happening this week.

  1. I have been working in the office and have, probably two more days until all the work is done. Finally, after many years, I have actually been doing a deep cleaning! It’s looking great in there!
  2. I also went back to Weight Watchers on Wednesday. It was not pretty. But I went and weighed in, and started their new Smart Points program. I’ve made it through two whole days, without cheating once.
  3. I realize that I will need to be on this healthy eating plan for the rest of my life, as I am quite simply, an over eater. I love to cook and I love to eat. That is a bad combination.
  4. I decided this morning that I needed to clean and organize my closet. I still cannot wear my turtlenecks, so I folded them all up and put them in a container. We will see next Autumn if I can take the pressure on my throat.
  5. We built a nice fire in the fireplace, and Miss Greta took up residence right in front. She’s an old lady, and she likes to warm her old bones by the warm of the fire!

Friday Five

The week has gone by pretty quickly. I’ve been trying to take things a little more slowly, as I think maybe I have been pushing myself too quickly, for a recovery. So here goes, my week in five.

  1. I had put Greta out for a little walk in the yard fairly early in the morning. We have a long driveway, but recently marked it, “No Outlet”, hoping that the average driver would read this and not think our driveway went through to the beach.
  2. I was monitoring Greta from my bedroom window, when a car came tearing down our driveway! I lifted the window and started to wave them down frantically, as I could see Greta in the drive! They never slowed down!
  3. I ran from my room, grabbed my jacket and ran out the door to save Greta!
  4. I ran down the stairs, and missed the last step, and went flying through the air. Landing on my knee and hands.
  5. The car backed up, missed Greta and the man got out and helped me to my feet. I told Greta to go up the stairs, and I followed. Where my Hubby hollered at me for doing something so stupid as to run down wet stairs made of cement. But I’m okay, so all’s well, that ends well.

The Friday Five

It’s been a quiet week since I came down with my first cold of the winter. I have slept a lot, gone through more tissues than I care to count and drank so much juice, I felt like I would float away. But here are 5 things that actually felt good during my recovery.

  1. Naps. Naps are good! I took a one hour nap each day and it was just enough to make me feel a little stronger and a little better each day.
  2. Tea. Honestly, is there anything that a good cup of tea can’t cure? I think not! I just love tea.
  3. Kleenex plus lotion. These tissues are treated with a drop of lotion, so that my nose has stayed perfectly unchapped and not red at all! This was an accidental buy, but I will keep a box in the house all the time to have on hand for colds.
  4. It’s been frozen and icy and I have felt no reason to go out in this weather. Best part, I do not feel like I have missed anything!
  5. I just need to take the next few days to finish recovering from this cold, because on Tuesday I go to see my Neurosurgeon for my first post operative visit. I can hardly wait!

Friday Five

Another week has gone by. I’m now four weeks out of surgery, and doing pretty well. I have discovered a few new things and here is my list.

  1. I cannot sit in a hair stylists wash chair and lean back to get my hair washed. It seems my neck doesn’t bend that way any more.
  2. I was able to kneel in the chair and hold my head over the sink, but honestly, that was tough too.
  3. Holding my arms over my head for more than a few minutes is painful! I’m just not there yet.
  4. I am cooking, doing laundry and feeding the dogs again.
  5. And the office…yes, the office will be finished next week. Then I start on the next room!

Friday Five

After over a month away from regular blogging, I am trying to get back into blogging each day. It’s nice, because after the last month, I actually have a lot to write about. The best part is that 2016 has started off with such positive and healthful results!

So without further ado, here is this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I have been out by myself two times this week! As in, in a car, off to Weight Watchers and to the Post Office, and the grocery store. Trust me, it’s the little things.
  2. I actually did my hair, put on make-up and dressed in normal clothes. Like a normal person. It’s been great not to spend day after day in my pajamas.
  3. I’ve cooked dinner for the last 5 nights. I know that there is one person in this world that is very happy about this. My Hubby! What can I say, he likes my cooking!
  4. Today I begin part of my unofficial New Year’s Resolution. I decided to work 1-2 hours per day in a room in the house, until I have gotten the entire place deep cleaned! This includes throwing away all those terribly old books on Windows 95… Yes, it’s time to clear the shelves!
  5. I am also planning to make some sort of wonderful dinner. Something soft, something easy to swallow, and something that will give us leftovers for the weekend.

So that’s my Friday Five. My first Friday Five for the New Year.

Happy 2016!!!
