Autumn In Our Yard

So Sunday was the day I had decided to break down the garden. Take down the stakes, roll up the fences and prepare to clean the garden so we can fertilize it before the snow falls.

I managed to get what I wanted done today, in between the raindrops, and the wind, dressed in a warm jacket and my winter hat and gloves, I took Greta out with me and did my work.

Greta is so much fun to be in the yard with. She is old enough to know the rules, and she loves to go out and hang around with you. If I call, she is right there.

In fact, at one point, I called and called and I couldn’t seem to find her, when I felt something on my leg. I looked down and there she was! I think she was probably laughing at me!

When we were done I came in and felt quite tired. So Greta and I curled up on my chair and I fell asleep with her in my lap. (I’m sure the other dogs were jealous!)

As the sun is setting tonight the clouds are an orange/pink color. The trees are nearly stripped of their leaves, and the train has ceased their leaf peeping schedule for another year.

It never ceases to amaze me, how fast time goes.

Autumn Is Here

Today was a busy day. Both Hubby and I had doctor’s appointments and shopping after. I needed to get Lili her special dog food and a few other things (like antibiotics for my sinus infection) and Hubby did the majority of the house hold shopping. He’s good at that.

The big news here is that Lili had her first normal poop! I know that is a pretty funny thing to celebrate, but it means that all the special food, special enzyme powders are working! Yay!

I went to see the 100 Foot Journey. Good movie. It was slow and steady and full of meaning. I actually think I will enjoy it more when it is on HBO and I can close caption it.

So all is well, and the dogs are great and it appears Autumn is here!

The Garden & The Dog

  • Trying to pot some tomatoes and eggplants, and then get my garden planted, and the dogs will have none of it! Told Jack we will have to work in shifts. I’ll make lunch in a few minutes and then I’ll go out to work in the green house, and after that he can fence the garden and then if it is still light out, I will go and plant the vegetables in the big garden!
  • Just weighed Miss Lili! She is now 19 1/2 pounds! After this will need to bring her in to the Vet to use their scales. She has outgrown our baby scale! LOL!

  • 86 degrees in my garden. No shade. (Yes, I have my super hat on and sunscreen!) Planted a row of zucchini, and a row of summer squash. Have come in to cool down and hydrate. Still have the butternut squash, cukes, tomatoes, and peppers to go! Something tells me this is going to take a while in this heat!
  • Just a few more things to plant today and then tomorrow it’s direct sow day. Peas, Green and Wax Beans and Purple Beans!
  • Showered. Steaks on the grill with baked potatoes and broccoli! Oh man, I can tell this is going to be an early night. My muscles are reminding me that I am 55 years old!

A Wet Spring

Despite the gray, rainy, day, Lili was able to get outside quite a bit for walks and exercise, and we only had one small accident. Granted, it is me that is trained, as I look for signals that she needs to go outside, and she is getting better at doing this each day.

Today was also the first day I gave her a rawhide braid (made in the USA). As it turned out I gave each dog a braid, and there was a lot of chewing and playing around.

I was pretty busy, yet I feel like I am not getting too much done. Probably because most of my work is running in and outside with Lili.

Of course, eventually she ran out of energy, and so did I. I guess I’m not the youngstrer I once was!

Arnie, Fruit Trees and Sneakers!

What a beautiful day! The sun shone, the air was warm and the wind a distant memory. The sky was robins egg blue, and shortly after lunch Hubby and I took Arnie out in the yard and played fetch with him.

The two girls run after the ball and then hide with it. Arnie gets the game and now plays quite nicely with us.

Tonight he is exhausted.

Hubby finished pruning the fruit trees and clearing up the brush. It’s amazing what a difference that makes.
One of the ornamental apple trees he hadn’t pruned for a while, and I was looking at it today and WOW does it look different.

Tomorrow I am off to find a new pair of sneakers. My good pair are no longer “good” so off to the store I go.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Windy

I went to the therapist today for the last of my physical therapy. I’ve made great strides and the pain level has been greatly reduced. So, for now, I have been discharged from his office and will continue my therapy at home. I have some flexibility exercises for the hand, wrist and fingers and then a brace to wear during the day, and another one at night. However, things are so much better!

We had a wind storm that lasted for about 24 hours. The wind blew straight out of the north and just whistled like you would not believe! All day yesterday, all night and then all day on Thursday. I feared the dackels would be blown away when they went out to tend to their business!

Poor Hubby was outside trying to prune our fruit trees during this wind storm and this proved to be a real challenge! I felt bad for the poor guy, out in the cold wind, trying to prune the trees, while the cut branches blew back in his face!

Arnie tried to keep him company for a while, but even his couldn’t take the wind and retreated to the house!

Good Day/Nice Day

Friday was fairly quiet. I spent the afternoon chopping vegetables for a homemade soup for Hubby and for the turkey stuffing I am making to go into my turkey bird in Sunday. It is all done, and that makes my preparation for Easter pretty much done.

Although it was cold today, the sun shone brightly and the skies were mostly blue. Hubby took the dogs out in the yard and played ball. Then he was off for a walk with Arnie.

I’m working hard on a project and tomorrow I need to burn a CD and then continue to work on that project. More to come…

Spring Comes To New Hampshire

Here I am, 8:15 PM on Monday night and it is still 70 degrees (f). Spring definitely has sprung!  In fact, Hubby was out today putting his first spray on the fruit trees to protect them against fungus’.

Many of you may not realize this, but Hubby went to school and took extensive tests to get his pesticide permit license. He sprays up until so many weeks before harvesting, which gives him the right to say that the fruit is organic. He also does not use the really strong sprays that the commercial growers use.

Our fruit is wonderful. My favorite are the peaches, with which I make Heavenly Jam!

And Concord Grapes, that I make out of Grape Jelly!

So now, Spring is in the air and soon the trees will blossom. This is probably my favorite time of year!!!

Spring!

I hope that it was springlike where ever you are. Today, despite a few clouds, the temperatures rose and more of our snow melted.

The dogs ran in the yard, Hubby went for a walk and I enjoyed the heck out of the day. Spring, how I love you, especially after this long and cold, snowy, and icy winter!

I also installed Google Chrome onto my laptop. Talk about a learning curve! I’ve been using Firefox for years, but decided to switch. Somethings with Chrome I really like, and yet some things are painful and not user friendly at all, (like pop ups! If someone knows how to stop them please tell me!) Wait, I think I got it! If this does work, I’ll stick with Chrome for a while.

My hand is doing better. Between the therapy and my exercises, my trigger fingers are healing. Now if I can just get my thumb working again!

Have you seen “Frozen” the Disney kids movie? I watched it with Savannah the other day, and I loved it! It’s a great movie for young kids and older kids. The music is super!

Enjoy springtime, where ever you may be!

‘Snirt’

What’s this? Warmer temperatures, even though it is grey and rainy. Hubby and I went to the grocery store, where we saw, while walking through the parking lot, two locals walking into the store in work boots, shorts, a short sleeve shirt and down vest. Yes springtime in New Hampshire!

The ice is thinning on our lake and there are large puddles everywhere. All the BOB houses (for ice fishing) must be off the ice by April first.

Our snow is melting, and I know under all that snow and dirt ‘Snirt’ my lawn really took a beating! I am afraid we will need a lot of reseeding this spring.

I was thinking that perhaps I will plant some spring bulbs. You know, I stopped planting bulbs, because Fritz followed me around and dug up every bulb I planted! At first I was a bit angry, but how could I stay angry at that dear boy?

Life has changed but life also goes on.
