Blogging, A Givers Gain

I have always wanted to travel around the world. I’ve actually been lucky to do quite a bit of traveling and the more I traveled the more I wanted to learn about other places.

I have tried to open my mind and my blog to people around this world in hopes that we can share our lives with each other, and I have been lucky, very lucky, to meet some wonderful people who share my interest in learning about each other’s cultures.

I’ve been reading RennyBa’s Terella for a couple of years. I could tell that he was interested in other places, other people and traditions.

I wanted to know more about his Norway, what the people were like, what traditions were held dear, what made Norway tick. Much of this has been answered in his blog, as he writes about the life and culture of Norway, but I wanted to share my little piece of New Hampshire with him and his wife Diane. So Renny and I decided to share packages with each other, containing just a little bit of our worlds! Today Renny is linking to me and I am linking to him so that you can see how our exchange went.

The most interesting was learning about the traditional dress of Norway known as the Bunad. As you can see in the photo below, (click to enlarge) there is a doll with this dress on, but I learned that depending on your particular part of the country there are many Bunad designs.

I am also enjoying the music that Renny and Diane sent to us which included part of the Peer Gynt Suite. What a treat for us! I love the information on the artists of the country as well.

I hope you will spend a moment and go over and visit Renny. Read from his archives and learn a little bit more about his part of our world. Tell him I sent you.

  1. Thanks for sharing a little piece of your New Hampshire with me and Diane and you know; I love what you sent me and have gained a lot from this and our blogsphere friendship. Say hello to your husband from us as well!

  2. Glad you liked our little care package, we thought yours was lovely as well. I have had to keep it a secret for some days now…wasn’t easy!!! Just so you have a little secret to smile about when you hear the CD – Renny is famous for waking up the family by making bacon and eggs and playing Greig’s “Morning” quite loud on the stereo! I think its so cute, but the kids don’t always enjoy this tradition 😉

  3. Loved reading this and I did go over and read and see what you had sent too. I didn’t leave a comment though. But “Hi” to your friends from here.
“It is a small world after all!”

  4. This is truly fabulous! What a wonderful idea. And that doll….so adorable!!

    ~~three cheers for international friendships!!!

  5. Ohhhh HOW cool! I do visit Renny! Not often enough though… I’m bad! I’m running right over though to see what you sent HIM about New Hampshire though – because I’ve never been to New Hampshire OR Norway! And that doll is adorable! Renny always picks the BEST gifts!

I came LOOKING for your TT – but this was even better!!!

(it wouldn’t let me post a minute ago … said I had already posted?) weird.

  6. I think you two did such a wonderful exchange, isn’t blogging just the best??
hope my comment gets through this time, I am not “malicious”! 🙂

  7. I’m overwhelmed – how you and my friend Renny really to share “hardware” not “software” alone.
    It’s really great.
About Bunad: My daughter did want a Bunad for her confirmation (normally at the age of 15 here in Norway) and she asked me:
    – papa, which district should I choose from?
    – I said, my papa’s family, and your family name is from East Telemark.
    – Then I’ll have made my descission, she said.
here she is besides Anna some years ago:

PS. Talking about travel: My TT 13 this week is about that;)))

  8. Blogging is so cool! It’s been a great tool for developing friendships beyond our comfort zones and country borders! I will visit Renny too and Maribeth, I wish I could see the pictures but then I can’t again!! (Darn this Flickr banning thing in Dubai!!)
