I raced down to Connecticut today as my Dad is now in Hospice and not doing very well. I wanted to see him. I wanted to say good-bye.
I dreaded it, but found the scene quite comforting. Dad is in a wonderful Hospice, being taken care of by fabulous nurses and finally, he is in no pain.
His room looks out at the ocean and when he wants to he can see sailboats and seagulls.
But mostly now he sleeps or drifts. But for him the pain is over.
We talked some, and I cracked a few jokes and I even sang to him two songs. He was happy to have me there, with my sister and mother. He smiled.
I don’t think it will be much longer.
((hugs))
I’m thinking of you both.
((hug))
Looks like he has a beautiful view, or the ones who visit him will have a beautiful place to divert their eyes when it becomes too much for them. I hope your Dad stays peaceful. Big hug.
Oh Maribeth – what a sweet visit you had. I love that you sang to him.
many many hugs from me, too,

That picture of the sailboat is the utmost of peace and quiet. My daughter and I sang to my Mother when she was dying and she managed to say, “no singing”. Does that tell you how good we are? We had a chuckle. At the end she said “I hear music”. I asked if it was Angels and she said yes.
🙁 Happy you got to be with him and see him.
I am thinking of you. That must be such a hard time, but sometimes it can be a relief to know that he’s not in pain anymore.
I’m glad you went down.
I’m glad you had time with him and that he is without pain now. It was a long road for my dad and he entered hospice later than he should have. My heart is with you, dear.
My thoughts are with you Maribeth. My ex is going through the same, in a hospice. Its hard on my kids, for sure
I remember on the time I sat at my fathers bed and held his hand…..A long time in our life we did not get well along but at the end of his life we found to each other again and that makes me happy. We got the chance to find the love to eacht other again. I still see the smile on his face when he looked at me and finally found peace in heaven. I understand at all you want to say good buy to your father. I am with you in my thoughts dearest sister in soul. Love and hugs Uschi
You are in our our prayers…
It’s a comfort that you will have pretty good last memories. Hospices are amazing places.
Thinking of you guys.. *hugs*
Oh sweetie! I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. Happy thoughts, prayers and chihuahua love going your way.
Thoughts and prayers for you and your father.
It never gets easier, thank God for Hospices and dedicated nurses
This is the way it should be for all of us when that time comes. I’m so glad he is in such a calming, peaceful setting. I’m sure he can feel the love all around him. You’re in my thoughts, Maribeth…
Awwww. That’s so sweet of you, the songs and jokes I mean. It means so much for them. That smile follow him on his journey!
