Not One of My Finer Moments

So, there I was, in my jammies washing the kitchen floor, sweat dripping from my brow, when my friend and her boy friend rang the bell. OMG! They’re an hour early! I grabbed my robe and let them in. All the while swearing at myself for putting off the kitchen floor until this morning.

Hubby was in the shower getting ready.
S#*! I hate being caught unprepared. I laughed and tried to appear non-plused. Smiled sweetly and then disappeared into the bedroom where I growled at Hubby to “Get the heck out of the shower and show these people around while I get cleaned up!”
Then I went back out with the smile on my face and showed them the house while Hubby dressed. Fairly quickly, (because he knew I was planning his death) he came out of our bedroom and rescued me.
I jumped into the shower, did a quick scrub, and was out again, dressing in casual, yet New Hampshire chic summer clothes. I even put on some make-up!
The day consisted of driving to The Mount Washington Hotel, and to Cannon Mountain where we took the gondola up to the top, hiked around and took some pictures, before heading back home to barbecue ribs on the grill.
It was a quick one day stint, and our friends have already gone. And I am exhausted. And I am sitting here asking myself, why I get so crazy about clean kitchen floors before people come to visit. After all they’re coming to see me, not the darn floor. But I do like things to look good, I just hate for anyone to know that I actually had to work at it.
And how was your day?
