Saturday

I woke up on Friday morning with an aching tooth. I can’t really determine which tooth it is, so I am hoping that it is from grinding my teeth last night due to stress. I hope. If not then come Tuesday, I must see my dentist.

You see, I’ve been under a little bit of stress. You all know I am a Library Trustee, but recently, I have had some problems with the other Trustees and where they want to go with the Library. Two weeks ago, another Trustee resigned and today…I resigned.

I wrote my letters of resignation, and now it is done! I can finally relax and not let the stress consume me. However, right now, my teeth/jaw really aches!

It continues to be really hot here and topped out at 103 degrees Fahrenheit! I watered my garden three times today, and I noticed a big moth. If anyone knows what kind of moth it is…please leave it in the comment section.

It stayed around all day, and let me photograph it from all angles. I was amazed. You see, it is very large.

Friday night is Hot Wings, and celery and blue cheese for dinner! One of my favorite pick-up meals. I also bought some great Baby back ribs for the weekend.

And lastly, one of my family is having a health crisis. Please keep her in your prayers. She is a lovely young woman and this is breaking her heart as well as all of ours.

  8. I’ve got to remember my list and my grocery bags!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. How often do you check the weather? How do you check the weather?

Depending on the season once a day. In the winter, more often, because of the possibility of  blizzards. Local news and weather or the Weather Channel.

2. Since this is volume 84 of the Wednesday Hodgepodge, and since I got married in 1984, and since I’m attending a wedding this weekend it only seems right to post something related here.

“Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least. They always continue to grow sufficiently unlike afterwards to have their share of vexation; and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Agree or Disagree. Why?

I actually don’t agree because we have worked hard to keep a happy marriage. I also think it is important to know as much as you can know before you tie the knot! It makes the journey that much easier for the both of you.

3. Do you like to dance? Have you ever taken dance lessons?

I do, but Hubby doesn’t. Some girl told him he couldn’t dance when he was a teenager and I could kick her. On special days he will dance a slow one with me, but that is it. Usually at weddings, I dance with other women, and the children!

4. Fresh from the oven peach pie or home made peach ice cream? Pick one.

Peach ice cream! I’m not really a pie girl.

5. Should people accept unfairness and learn to make the best of it?

Sometimes you have no choice but to accept and make the best of it. I don’t like it, but what can you do!

6. The top five all time summer movie blockbusters (released between May and August and grossing at least 100 million dollars) are-Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars (the original), Ghostbusters, and ET. Which one’s your favorite?

That’s tough. I loved Star Wars, but also loved ET!

7. If given the chance, would you like to visit the moon?

Nope! I like having my feet planted firmly on the ground!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I’ve been watching the series “Sister Wives” on Amazon Prime. Although I know I could never be in a Polygamist marriage, I see this large family and the love they share in this modern multiple marriage. Do you think Polygamy is wrong, or should people be left alone to live their lives the way they wish? Please leave your vote in the comment section.

Something Lost Is Found

On Monday, we received an email from Hubby’s long lost cousin and his wife. We have not seen or spoken to them after nearly 20 years. When we parted all those years ago, there were bitter words exchanged and the atmosphere in the family  was tense.

But, no one is getting any younger, and so when they wrote, we invited them to stop on in. They arrived just before 2 pm.

We sat around talking and sharing, and filling in all those things that we’d missed in the other’s lives.

It’s pretty late now, and they have turned in. I am going next. I’m exhausted. However, I am so happy that something I thought wasn’t possible to come back, somehow found it’s way back into our lives.

What I Did This Past Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

This weekend was my work in the garden weekend. The weather was great, and I was able to be outside both days to pull weeds in the big garden.

Hubby used to do all the weeding in the garden, but this year, I have taken over the duties of being the chief garden weeder!

Is it my favorite thing to do? Not really, but when I look back over all that I accomplished, there is a sense of pride in all I have done! Trust me here! There were tons of  weeds, and it took a long time, but I am extremely proud! It looks beautiful!

Now I know, by Wednesday, a fair amount will have grown back, but for today, it looks simply marvelous!

July 08 12 030

I also cooked some brook trout that my cousin’s boyfriend had caught and saved for us. It tasted wonderful!

We also watched the Men’s Final at Wimbledon. I was so happy to see Roger Federer win again. I’ve always enjoyed watching him play. He is such a master on the court, and also a gentleman.

He beat Andy Murray, and when I listened to Andy speak after the match, his voice breaking with emotion, I wanted to cry too. Andy is British, and he really wanted to win for his country.

Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich W/Avocado

Recently I had a new sandwich. Well, at least it was new for me, so I thought i would share it with you all.

The Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich, with Avocado!

00:24

I was leery about trying this combination, but I was told by the eager waiter, that it is one of their best sellers. So, throwing caution to the wind, I ordered this and felt as if I were truly being a wild child, living on the edge!

Do you ever notice how when you are about to try something new to eat, you fidget in your seat. You also crane your neck around to see what other patrons are eating, lest you find one who is eating that sandwich, and scowling!

After a short time, my sandwich arrived and the first thing I noted was the sheer size of it. Almost twice as large as a regular sandwich.

I studied it for a moment. It seemed to smell good, and certainly looked fine, so I lifted it up and took a bite! Oh my goodness…sheer heaven!

The waiter had sensed my anxiety over ordering such a new sandwich, so he soon returned to make sure I was enjoying my meal. From the expression on my face, it was quite apparent that I was enjoying every bite!

Here is the simple way to make this sandwich at home.

Fry up some bacon, and place it on paper towel to drain off any extra fat.

Meanwhile toast two slices of your favorite bread or croissant.

Slice a tomato.

Tear some lettuce.

Slice some avocado.

Now put it all together between the two slices of bread, using a little mayonnaise to moisten the sandwich.

Now some people, I have heard, also add a hard cooked egg, but to me that seemed like overkill.

Slice the sandwich in half and then enjoy!

Weeding

It was an odd day here today. Hubby was clearing out our vegetable storage area in the cellar and he found one last, perfect, butternut squash! I shall cook it tonight for dinner with a nice steak.

September 12 011

We also picked our very first zucchini out of this years garden, and best of all, we have more zucchini and summer squash on the way.

garden

That is, if the little chipmunk leaves them all alone!

So, perhaps my garden is not a total loss after all.

Tomorrow I need to get out there early and spend about an hour or so weeding the garden. I completed weeding on Monday and already it has grown back in heavily around the cucumber plants! So out I will go, pulling weeds, and making the garden all pretty again.

One thing about weeds…they grow like…weeds!!!

Friday Fill-Ins

Friday Fill Ins

And…here we go!

1. I am happy every time I see a new picture of Savannah!

548359_4231615070322_998543727_n
2. Strawberries and blueberries and corn on the cob are my favorite summertime fruits and vegetables.
3. To help me I would just love someone to do the dishes for me.
4. I talk about this all the time, but cleaning my office is the one thing I want to do this summer more than anything!
5. Just the other day I was saying how happy I have been this year!.
6. Open the door and close the door, dog in, dog out, over and over again.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to watching an old movie, tomorrow my plans include the usual laundry and Sunday, I want to breakfast at Wimbledon, the Men’s Final!!!

When The Rains Come

We’re having a thunder storm and I walked all the dogs before it began. I called to Hubby, who is mowing the lawn, and he ignored my pleas to stop cutting and come in. I think he will wait until it either rains on him, or he gets hit in the head by a large hail stone!

That’s the difference between us. I worry and he doesn’t. He is always calm. I suppose that is what makes us such a good couple. I fall apart and Hubby is my rock!

Of course the relationship is not one sided. I do things like cook meals, do the laundry, and go see weird movies with him too!

And when the storms finally get to us, I’m the one who runs around and shuts down all the electric appliances.

Hubby is now in, the rain is falling, and the storm is almost over us! The winds are blowing and Hubby actually said he is hoping for a good bit of rain to water everything. I’m hoping it will keep those pesky chipmunks out of my garden for a night!

So do you like violent thunder storms, or are you like me and a bit of a chicken? My three dachshunds don’t mind a big storm, but poor Fritz, he really hates them. Yes, my big boy has the heart of a baby lamb.

I was going to walk down to the fireworks tonight, but I am thinking that they will be postponed until tomorrow.
