I think I have simply lost my mind. Hubby has convinced me to brave the cold weather and go skiing! Isn’t this something they commit you for? I know I have warm clothing, and fairly good gloves, but to go out in this weather and ski! Yes, I think I must absolutely be nuts!
The things we do for decent weight loss!

Bath Day!
It was bath day here at the Kennel! We don’t really have a kennel, but Hubby is always telling people that since he married me, his life has gone to the dogs, and now he lives in a kennel!
Fritz was the first one in the shower with me. I’m not sure how this happens. He’s actually Hubby’s dog, but somehow I’m the *lucky* girl who gets to bathe this 75 pound hair factory.
Don’t get me wrong, I love White German Shepherds. They’re so pretty, but the hair, the shedding, Oh my, it is challenging, to say the least. In fact when I recently bought vacuum cleaner bags for my new vacuum, the salesman told me about these wonderful cloth hepa filter bags they made for the machine. Nope! Not for me. I need the cheap paper ones because I fill them up so fast!
I digress…
Fritz was very good in the shower and I actually got him soaped up and rinsed in record time. Once I got him to shake a few times in the shower stall, I passed him off to Hubby, who was waiting with three beach towels to dry him off.
Greta was next. She is so easy, that I simply get her wet, lather her up and then rinse. After a few “good girls” and a couple of shakes she too, is passed off to Hubby.
Now I am wet and naked and I have to run around the bedroom until I “catch” Shubi. Our ten year old pup is quite smart. She can smell a bath coming a mile away! In fact, when this dog sees me naked she runs under the bed to hide. It’s kind of hard on the ego, you know?
Anyway, I scooped up Shubi and brought her in. By this time, I was exhausted, so I sat down on the floor of the shower stall and soaped her up and rinsed her off, before passing her off to Hubby.
I was now faced with the inevitable. I had to take my own shower. I soaped up, rinsed off, cleaned the shower and then…no I didn’t pass myself off to Hubby for drying, I simply had to do it myself.
Paging My Fairy Godmother!!!
Where oh where is my Fairy Godmother? When I got home from skiing yesterday I stripped down and started trying on clothing to wear to my Aunts Memorial Service on Sunday. What I quickly determined was, I should probably wear pajama’s!
Oh it was terrible. I tried on dresses that made me look like Dolly Parton, Skirts and pants I couldn’t button and blouses that I now know I need to throw out because after 15 years they no longer “go” with anything, nor are they fashionable!
All I can say is, it’s a good thing I am already on a diet, because at least I have the knowledge that I am doing something positive about my belly and thighs. The boobs will simply vanish once I have lost a bit more weight (sadly!).
Speaking of which, while skiing today I was wearing a white, pink and bright pink striped turtleneck shirt. I like the brightness of the shirt. I felt good in it. However, Hubby smiled broadly today and told me that all the guys were checking me out. When I asked why, he responded, “They were trying to figure out which Hooter’s Restaurant you work at” (sigh).
Headaches and Fridays
I woke up with another headache. I have taken something already as I actually have plans to do something fun on a Friday morning. I know, you have already guessed. Yes, I am going to ski. I just hope that 1) The headache leaves quickly. 2) It doesn’t warm up too fast so we have good skiing, and 3) The headache leaves quickly.
After skiing, I need to go into my closet and find something that fits to wear to my Aunts Memorial Service on Sunday. This could turn into a frustrating challenge. I have my fingers crossed that something will magically fit and make me look slender. Okay Fairy Godmother, do your thing!
On a bright note, I found the cutest pocketbook! It’s a Stone Mountain brown leather shoulger bag. Not too big and the leather is as soft as a baby’s bottom! It was at TJ Maxx and on sale for $39.99! Oh!!!! That helped assuage my new pocketbook cravings!
Well, time to wake Hubby for skiing. Have a good day everyone!!!
Happy 5th Anniversary to Uschi!!!
Today is a special day for me. It’s five years ago today that I first met my best friend, Uschi.

It’s funny how we started out. I’d gone to a (German language) dog web site where there was a chat room. At the time I was trying to learn some German. (Unfortunately I am one of those people who is not linguistically gifted. )
While there I left a message that I was looking for a penpal. Uschi replied to the posting and we have been together ever since.
The first postings were formal. I learned she was born and raised in Schmölln, Germany. She was an Engineer, married with a daughter, and a yellow Labrador, named Gilli and currently living in Berlin. I wrote to her about me. I was 42, fighting my weight (even then), married, with one daughter, and two dogs. A White German Shepherd, Max and my beloved Shubi.
Over time we would write about what we were doing, what we were thinking, what we were cooking or where we were going. We set up our computers so we could chat online and each day at 3 pm my time and 9 pm her time we would meet to chat!
It was a year before we actually met each other. Then Uschi and her Hubby came to visit us here in the USA! We went on a road trip. Two dogs, and four people in a camper. What a blast!
A year later I went to visit them in Germany while Hubby stayed home. Our Max was ill and Hubby didn’t want to leave him. It was so great to be there with Uschi and to visit Berlin after being away from it since 1990.
When Shubi got sick, Uschi helped me find my Greta and she made most all of the arrangements for us to go over and pick her up. This time Hubby came with me and we enjoyed a week with Uschi and her Hubby!
Meeting Uschi is so special because she is now a sister to me. I know I can go to her anytime and pour out my heart and she will listen and love me anyway. She understands my heart and we share so many interests and concerns
We have been through life’s most difficult moments and been able to be there for each other in a way that many other friends simply cannot.
So today I am writing this to let you know how wonderful it is to have such a special person in my life. My best friend and sister.
Happy 5th Anniversary, Uschi, and thank you so much for your friendship and your love!
In The Groove

Yesterday I skied at Waterville Valley. We arrived early and upon pulling into the parking lot found the place really crowded. What’s this? Usually Tuesday mornings it’s just plain dead, and you have the entire mountain to yourself! However, yesterday, the parking lots were packed. It was due to the fact that they had the Women’s FIS Slalom events going on.
There were well over 130 young women competing, and you know what happens when you have that many young, beautiful girls dressed in skin tight racing outfits?
Yep, you guessed it, you have a ton of young, horny guys all hanging out trying to look/be interesting to the young girls. Honestly, the hormone level in the ski lodge practuically gave me a bad case of acne!
It was fun to watch the girls ski, and I would have felt jealous of their abilities, if I had not had the best day of skiing all year.
Is this picture me? No. First I could never ski so fast and second, no one would ever want me to dress in a tight racing outfit. I’d look too much like the Michelin Man!

The skiing was great though. Yes folks, I was strong, I was flying, and my turns were right on. I felt I was in the groove, everything felt right! I skied with only minor faults, and absolutely no falls! That’s always a good day!

Hubby, skiing yesterday.
We skied until just after 12 and then we headed home, as yesterday was also dental day for me. I had no cavities! Yea for me! I do, however, need to have a small filling replaced next week. Not something I relish, but neccisary nonetheless.
Then I was on to my visit to the “Fountain of Youth“, otherwise known as my fabulous hairdressers! She took her magic elixor and in short order I was restored to my former, younger self.
I came home just in time to feed the dogs, make dinner for Hubby before collapsing in my chair.
Possibly another week on my exercise bike and the slopes is required to build up a little more stamina.
Pass The Salad Oil!
**Remember this is De-Lurking Week So, please say hello!**

Today will be another day on the slopes! I bet I’ll be feeling energetic as I glide down the mountain. After over a week of daily exercise, I am feeling stronger and my endurance is starting to build. I must, however, note that I was really in terrible shape from a December of cookie and chocolate eating, but such is life when you are saving your diabetic husband from a certain coma!
It’s funny, I don’t feel terribly traumatized going back onto The South Beach Diet. Probably because I am starting to accept the fact that South Beach isn’t necessarily a “diet”, but more a way of life.
I do have to admit to hoping that I could lose weight faster. You know? I’ve been on this diet for a week and all I’ve lost is 4 pounds! Certainly with all my goodness, I’d have transformed my chubby middle aged body into that of a slender starlet! Or maybe, at least I could fit into my jeans without salad oil! Oh well, I guess that will come in time.
Until then, can someone pass the oil?

You’ve Got “No Mail”
This morning after sitting down at the computer I discovered that I had no mail. I normally have a lot of correspondence waiting for me. I first suspected a problem with my ISP, but after talking to a technician there, they informed me that the problem had been created by a Norton Anti Virus Automatic Update, and that I should contact Norton for a fix (so to speak). How nice! A fix for a fix! What won’t they think of next!
Here is a heads up if any of you find this problem. Norton Anti Virus put out a “new fix” for their e-mail scanning program. Basically it shuts off your e-mail, all e-mail!, until you do their fix.
Weigh, Oh Weigh In
The first week of dieting pain is now behind me. I’m starting to feel less deprived and I’m settling into my good eating habits. I stepped on the scale, really expecting it to scream bloody murder, but it smiled up at me and announced proudly that I was four pounds lighter! I almost jumped for joy, but I’m still too heavy for that!
I’ve not only been good with my eating, but I have exercised every day, and been consuming, what is for me, large amounts of water.
Have I ever mentioned my aversion to water? I love to swim in it, bathe in it, and cook in it, but to drink it, plain, no coffee or tea mixed in, yuck! I just get no pleasure out of it.
My plans for the next week of “the program” is to continue with my diet and exercise, and to continue to drown my sorrows in water!
