Just A Regular Old Day

We woke on Friday to wild winds, and colder temperatures. Also, while eating our breakfast we had a short power outage. You know, the kinds that require you to go around and reset all the clocks?

Hubby and I did various chores, during the day before headed out for dinner. I decided to get as much of my laundry done on Friday, and Hubby helped a neighbor with a tree that was about to fall down. He worked hard, but it will help us with having wood for heat.

Hubby was out with Anneliese when she decided to chase a leaf and off she went. I grabbed my jacket and off I went with the cookie bone box in hand!

shake shake shake

After several minutes Anneliese returned from our neighbors looking for her bone! What a minx she is!!!

So life was rather ordinary on Friday, and in many ways this was good. Cold, gray, rainy and well, normal for November.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!!

Miscellaneous

July 04 098

  1. The time changed last weekend and I simply cannot get used to it. I am up at 6 AM and ready for bed by 9 PM. Ugh!
  2. We have enough wind so that most of the leaves are now off of our trees. It’s really starting to look like we are getting close to winter.
  3. However, we’ve had two really warm, sunny, days and that has been wonderful!
  4. I’m making the butternut squash recipe I told you about last week. Turns out, Hubby really loved it!
  5. I’m also making apple stuffed pork chops!
  6. I never did finish the laundry last week, so I will have to work on it tomorrow.
  7. Friday is Veterans Days and Hubby wants to go out for his free Veterans day lunch.
  8. Saturday is the start of the holiday season. Many churches in our area have their festivals.
  9. My Mom is not doing well. The last of her friends from Cape Cod passed away in October, and all of our family members from her generation are gone as well. I think she is feeling lonely being the last.
  10. I swung by TJ Maxx today, as I have somehow managed to destroy 2 umbrellas this summer and I was able to find replacements, cheap.
  11. I also needed a few groceries, and I thought the new Grocery Store would be open, alas it was not. So, I went to the old one and it was just about empty.
  12. The new store will open on Saturday. They asked me to come back then. Ha! It’ll be a mob scene!
  13. The sun has set. Sheesh. 4:30 and the day is done! Usually this falling back time wise doesn’t bother me, but this year…

Thursday Thirteen

Scav Sat

It was a shopping day for us this crazy Wednesday. So here is my Thursday Thirteen, highlighting my Wednesday happenings!

  1. I went to Weight Watchers and was down a pound. I have to say, it is a constant battle for me to keep my weight under control.
  2. When I was coming home I stopped at the Post Office.
  3. Now I was all ready to parallel park when this jerk behind me pulls next to me, making it impossible to move my car.
  4. Eventually he moved his car and I was able to park.
  5. I came home and picked up Hubby and we went out for Chinese food at lunch.
  6. It was nice and Hubby and I had a good time.
  7. We shopped at three stores and even filled up my car with gas.
  8. Sadly we discovered that a salesperson we really like, and have known for about 10 years is leaving her job.
  9. I admit it. I cried. We exchanged address and phone numbers and I hope we stay in touch.
  10. I found a cheap movie at Walmart.
  11. It was, “Nights in Rodanthe” with Richard Gere and Diane Lane.
  12. Hubby says this is a total “chick flick”.
  13. Which is probably true as I cried like a baby!

That is all! Happy Thursday!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What gives you goosebumps?

When I get cold. Other than that, I don’t really get them I do dislike them though. You know, Chicken Skin!

2. Halloween-are you a lover or a hater? Okay, that sounds harsh…Halloween-yay or nay?

Nay. Not that I don’t begrudge anyone having the celebration, but I just have bad memories of Halloween. I used to enjoy the candy though!

3. Can you respect someone you do not trust, and can you trust someone you do not respect?

No!

4. Apples or oranges? Yes, you have to choose.

Apples! Of course I have to say that. My yard is full of apple trees!!!

5. What is something you wish was in your town? (shop, restaurant, attraction, etc)

A Wal-Mart type store, or even a decent department/grocery store. See previous post. We have so much here in my little town, but at the same time, we do lack certain things.

6. What non-food item is in your refrigerator or freezer?

The ice packs for a cooler. Aside from that nothing really. I have run out of freezer space!

7. Are you at all superstitious?

Yes, to a certain point. But I don’t go crazy about things.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

The cold is settling in. I need to get out my sweaters and prepare for “Snow On Friday”!!! I know….that’s what I thought! But, it happens. I found my hat and gloves yesterday and now it’s time to get out my jackets and coats.

What I Did This Past Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Although I planned to do so many different things, it turned out in the end that I didn’t really get a lot done.

We did go down and see Mandy and Matt to celebrate his birthday and we had a great time with them. Mandy cooked a terrific meal. My daughter is a good cook! And the time spent talking about her wedding was so much fun! I really look forward to helping her to plan the big day! I am so happy for her and for Matt!

Sunday found me hosting a dinner for family and friends. I’d decided to cook my famous crock pot pork. You can go HERE and get the recipe. In the morning I felt that my cousin must be in New Hampshire. I called her cell phone and asked if she and Dave wanted to come. They did, so I had three neighbors and my cousin and her fella, and we all just had a great time! And, the food was pretty good too!

The doggy drama continues, but we have just one more week of the intense doggy love fest and then Anneliese will be done with it for another 8 months.

Pepe La Pew!

Today we drove down to Nashua to have a birthday celebration with Mandy and Matt. We had so much fun, celebrating his birthday and talking about the wedding. I forgot my camera, unfortunately, so I cannot show you any pictures.

Mandy cooked a great meal, and we all enjoyed it. Steak, Scallops and Shrimp! Yum, yum, yum!

After dinner, Hubby and I drove home. It seemed like a long way, after dark and with full stomachs! When we turned into our driveway we saw something fluttering along the road.

A SKUNK!

Now I knew I would have four dogs at home who would want to go out and do their business. How would I get them all out and walked, with the threat of Pepe La Pew hanging over me?

I put the leash on each and every one of them and walked them outside with a flashlight, quickly, and then I hurried back inside, safely!

Now I will go off to bed, and hopefully, Mr. Skunk will move on through the neighborhood by morning.

Oh, I do hate Skunks!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What’s your favorite meal to serve on a chilly autumn evening?

A pot roast or chicken soup or beef soup. Something hot and savory!

2. Are you a creature of habit? Explain.

Oh yes, totally. And I do not like to be out of my groove.

3. What food product (no longer readily available) do you remember and miss from days gone by?

Jello 1,2,3. You mixed this jello up and it automatically separated into three levels of deliciousness!

123

I know it is silly, but I really loved it. I remember sitting at the table, as a child, and slowly eating this!

4. What’s something you’ve lost that you’ve never been able to find? Any theories as to what happened?

Lately, it’s a Weight Watchers book that I would like to replace. It’s got all the restaurants and their menu points in it. But in the past, I also lost a wallpaper hanging kit. This kit was an old kit that made hanging wallpaper a breeze. There is nothing like it on the market now.

5. Zoo~circus~ carnival…your favorite?

Zoo. Then I can see the animals at my own pace. They are also not forced to perform and their treatment is often better than in the Circus or carnival.

6. What song makes you feel instantly happy?

7. To what extent are you an argumentative person?

Everyone who knows me, knows that I hate arguments. I will remove myself from situations rather than argue.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Thursday is my soon to be son-in law’s birthday. So I send Matt a very Happy Birthday and may the year ahead be full of happiness and love, as he marries my daughter!

Rainy Skies

Saturday was supposed to be a day with just a few showers. What we had was one, long day, with non-stop rain! I mean non-stop, full rain, falling out of the skies!

Hubby thought he would go to the Recycling center, so we loaded up the Jeep, and Hubby and Fritz went off. Fifteen minutes later I got a call, from Hubby…the Jeep’s battery was dead and could I please come with the jumper cables, and rescue him and Fritz.

I mentioned yesterday, that Arnie cannot be trusted right now, so I grabbed Anneliese, and out the door we went to rescue Hubby.

We stopped at the Post Office to get the mail and my new drivers license arrived, and then I was off to rescue Hubby. There he was standing in the rain, jump starting the Jeep. Poor Hubby, I really felt bad for him.

I made one prime rib for dinner and then Hubby and I split it. I took my usual three ounces, and Hubby got the rest! Let’s just say, he is still smiling! Next week is my future son-in laws birthday. We’re getting together for dinner and a small celebration.

One last thing before I close for the night. Please, by all that is good, let it stop raining!!!

Cooking, Cooking, Cooking!

I woke on Friday and made Hubby some breakfast. After we finished up, I went into the bedroom to make our bed and there were the telltale signs that someone had gotten their period. Since Anneliese is the only female in our house who has not been spayed, I knew that she was, indeed in heat! I broke out the little doggy panties, and got to work.

The entire bed was stripped, and I took both my big heavy blankets to the laundromat, and came back and washed the sheets here. (My blankets are too heavy for my washer) I raced back to the laundromat and picked up the wet blankets and came home tossing them into the dryer once the sheets were dry.

I made lunch late, and spent time take all three dackels out for walks in the yard. We have chipmunks and squirrels that are driving them crazy right now and I don’t want them chasing a squirrel into the streets.

Then I started to plan our dinner. I made wiener schnitzel. It came out okay, but I need to figure out how to tenderize the meat. It all came out okay, but the meat was a little tough.

My day ended with Arnie finally calming down after a day where he drove me up a tree with his desires for his sister. These will be three long weeks!

Friday Fill-Ins

Friday Fill Ins

And…here we go!

1. I need a vacation.

2. We went shopping on Thursday and the rain held off. My umbrella broke, lucky we were home before the rain finally started.

3. A great deal this week was 89 cents a pound for broccoli! I love broccoli.

4. German beer should be served in a big tall glass.

5. It was announced that my daughter will be getting married next spring.

6. If you spend money on one thing, buy Henckel steak knives.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to Making Hubby Wiener Schnitzel, tomorrow my plans include finishing up the laundry and working putting the garden to bed for the winter, and Sunday, I want to perhaps make Hubby and apple pie.!
