The Love

All weekend long, I have gotten the feeling that I am greatly loved. Who, you might ask, is snuggling up to me and showing me copious amounts of love?

If you guessed the dogs, you would be correct. I think they sense a disturbance in the force. Somehow they know, that this week is the week that the nasty, tricky, trigger, finger will be repaired.

The dackels are constantly by my side and even Lili has been staying close. I feel loved. I feel their warmth. Most of all, I feel reassured.

I’ve told them all that it isn’t a big deal. A quick twenty minute surgery and snip, snip, all will be well. Then it is just the recovery time.

So now, it’s the countdown. Laundry, meals put up and ready to go and sheets changed.

Hope you all have a great week!

Blessings

Today I am writing about my dearest friend, Carol. I met her 8 years ago, and she quickly became one of the most important women in my life.

Carol is an identical twin. Her sister is named Carolyn. I cannot recall how many times I have teased her about this. After all, back when she was born, times were different. And with an identical twin, she may actually be Carolyn and not Carol at all! (lol)

She has told me many stories of her mother, affectionately called Ma, and I wish I’d gotten to meet her. She sounds like an amazing woman.

Carol is always a phone call away. She is never too busy to answer a call, or listen to my happy chattering, or hold me in her arms when I cry.

I’ve told her many times, that she is not just a friend, but a second mother to me. Someone who loves me regardless of my short comings.

She has said I am another daughter for her. I wasn’t looking for her, and she wasn’t looking for me, and yet, there we were eight years ago falling into each others paths.

Sometimes I believe that God finds people we should have in our lives. So he drops us into a situation and then lets us see how things work out.

So it was with Carol and I. We met, and decided that we really wanted to be in each others life.

What a blessing that has been in our lives.

My Weekend

Well, it was a great weekend. From watching Savannah, to enjoying Amanda’s company. I drove home, stopping at LL Bean to shop for something for me. It was not to be had, but I did find a great deal.

Hubby can never find jeans that fit his tall frame, and long legs. But they were having a big sale, and so I decided to check the men’s section. There I found a pair of jeans marked down to $15.00! Wait, it gets better!

I had a gift card for $14.00 and so in the end, the jeans cost just $1.00! I love a good sale, and so does my husband.

I came home and started to prepare everything I would need to make 4 bean salad to can. I got it all ready, and currently it is in the extra fridge to set overnight. Tomorrow we will can them and see how it all turns out.

I told Hubby that I was unhappy about how the marinade turned out. So I just dumped it and started again. The second time was the trick.

After being gone overnight, I was royally greeted by all the dogs! I think Hubby was happy to see me too, but he did not jump up and down, or try to lick my face!

This week I want to do some deep cleaning. I want the place spic and span clean before my hand surgery. Wouldn’t you know, I am right handed and the surgery will be on my right hand!

A breeder friend of mine, has a female dachshund who just welped 8 puppies. Apparently she delivered a couple naturally, but then was rushed in for a cesaerian. Mother and pups are doing well, but it will be a few more days until everyone will be out of danger.

So that’s all for now. Everyone have a good week ahead!

Tricky, Trigger, Finger

I drove across the state of New Hampshire to see my hand surgeon. She is the same surgeon who operated on both of my wrists for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

She looked at my poor, bent, tricky, trigger finger, and declared that surgery was in my future. I will be operated on in two weeks. It is all done with local anesthesia, so I can come home the same day. I need stitches in for 10 days, then afterward it is a 4 week recovery.

I got in the car and drove home, stopping for the mail at the Post Office. I was driving aong and passed a shop and there was a sign for Lobsters, $6.99 lb! So I actually stopped, turned around, and went back and got them. I also got some nice looking corn on the cob. Dinner was great!

I’m off to spend the day with Savannah! I am so excited to spend the time with her!

The Eye

On Saturday night, after I got done doing the dishes, I noticed that my right eye hurt. I got a flash light and Hubby looked at it, but couldn’t see anything.

An hour later, I passed by a mirror and noticed my eye lid was swelling and blotchy red. Hubby checked it out again, but could not find anything that looked like a bug bite or any kind of injury.

By midnight, the eye was weeping, and all night long I woke with an very uncomfortable eye. By this morning the eye was just about swollen shut. I used a warm compress to get the eye to open. I popped more Benedryl and that seemed to help the swelling.

By dinnertime, the swelling began again. I need to do warm compresses, take more Benedryl and then if it is the same in the morning, call my eye doctor.

After the surgeries I have had on both of my eyes to repair my retinas, I am a bit alarmed by this. A call to my retinal surgeons office to run my symptoms by him, will probably make me feel better.

Currently I look pretty aweful! But there is not much I can do, but ride it out.

Things That Go Bump…

Our property taxes were due last week, and since I believe in leaving our money in our account until the last second, I wound up in a long line of town’s folk, also paying taxes.

Let’s face it. No one enjoys writing that check to the town. Especially when we get very little in the way of services here.

So, there I was, waiting, when an office worker in flip flops walked by and stubbed her toe on a bench. I steadied her and asked if she was okay?

She looked down and not seeing any blood determined that she was just fine. I was happy for her.

But this reminded me of an incident on our last cruise, and somehow, before I knew it, I was sharing the story with the group.

“On our last trip, I got up pretty early, and grabbed my Kindle, slipped on my sandals and went to the 24 hour buffet to have some tea and read, in the quiet of the early morning. I love it then, because no one else is there and it is absolutely silent.

After a couple of hours, I went back to our cabin to wake up Hubby, and walking in to the dark room, I went over near the sofa, and SMASH! I stubbed my index toe on the wooden sofa leg.

I did a silent scream, not wanting to wake Hubby, and then sat down quietly to look at my email. Oh my goodness, that toe hurt something fierce!

Eventually Hubby woke up and we turned on the light and oh my! That toe was a bloody mess! The nail was torn off, there was blood all over my sandal, and suddenly the pain was even worse!

I soaked it in the tub, and then doctored it up, using all the supplies I brought for such an event, because….I am always doing weird stuff like that!

I wore my sneakers after that, and protected my toe, as I hobbled around on our shore excursion, (in St. Kitts) and doused the pain liberally with Caribbean Rum!

No, I do not do pain well. If I get even a hangnail, I want a morphine drip!”

At that, the Tax Collector burst out laughing, as did a couple of tax payers in line.

It made me smile for the rest of the day. I love to make people laugh, even if I have to break a nail to do it!

The rest of the story is, that nail has not grown back. I’m afraid I shall be nail-less on that toe until my final days! Ah well, that’s one less nail to trim and paint!

TBT: Memories Of Old Cape Cod

Summer Memories

I grew in Falmouth on Cape Cod and my summers were always full of sun, sea and soft, cool, cotton sheets after a long day at the beach. My sister Melodie is in the back on the left. I’m the bold one in the blue bikini!

img680

I swam almost before I could walk, dreamed of magical kingdoms, built in the sand, and lay on my towel watching the clouds drift by in the afternoon. I remember thinking that time went so slowly as I lay there, that things would always be like that.

img679

I ran barefoot all summer long through the sweet grass, and the scent of lilacs and roses and the ocean were always there. (Or so it seemed)

img684

The feel of salt on my skin, the taste of it on my lips, and the laughter in the air, as I climbed the jetties along the Surf Drive Beach.

Melodie on the left and me at home on Clipper Lane. When I didn’t walk to the beach, I rode my trusty Schwinn Bike all over town.

Fireflies, cookouts on the grill at Goodwill Park, with marshmallows too. My Uncle George, cousin, Janet and Aunt Betty with Grandma Honey.

Telling stories in the dark, movies at the drive-in and ice cream cones at Dairy Queen!

Pop cycles and root beer floats, fried clams and frozen Milkyway bars. Lobster and butter, and strawberry shortcakes at the church festival.

At the Clam Shack in Falmouth.

Sunshine and happiness, visiting with relatives who flocked to our house and the beach. Summers are full of some of the best memories in my life!

The Rheumatologist I have been seeing has diagnosed me as havingĀ  PMR, (Polymyalgia Rheumatica), with GCA, (Giant Cell Arteritis). Forms of Arthritis. Although it has been painful and somewhat debilitating for me, a month ago I started a new medication to reduce the inflammation, and I am feeling a lot better.

I am also working hard back at Weight Watchers, as losing the extra weight will also alleviate the chronic pain I am in. Before the new medication, the body pain was (on a scale of 1 being bad and 10 being childbirth) a 7-8 almost all the time. I just couldn’t escape it. With the medication, I am down to a 3 or 4 and when the doctor asked if I could handle that, I told him that would be a piece of cake compared to what I have been going through.

So now we work at getting me on exactly the right dosage and I continue to lose the weight, sensibly.

Finally. Finally I have some answers!

Cell Phones & Photographs

Hi Everyone. I feel quite guilty for not writing until now. However, I finally became the owner of a Smart Phone, a Galaxy S5, and since I have never had a Smart Phone, I have had to spend a lot of time learning about it, and programming it to my needs.

In fact I took these pictures today of a Christmas Cactus that was given to me years ago by a very special friend, Carol. The cactus loves my bedroom window, and just keep blooming, over and over again!

The camera is easy to use and takes such nice pictures!

Anyway, I did get the sheets washed and the bed made, and cooked three nice meals, and in between, I worked on learning the new phone.
