Happy Easter

Today began the first part of my spring cleaning. I dragged out my heavy winter blankets and piled them into the car and brought them to the laundromat for a good washing. $14.00 later, The blankets were washed and I put them in baskets and dragged them home, and I’ve been drying them in our machine er since.

Hubby helped me with prep work for Easter dinner. He peeled all the potatoes, and pearl onions. He also worked in the yard (with Arnie’s help) pruning fruit trees.

Hubby and Arnie have become good buddies. Arnie really fusses to go out with Hubby and he waits each afternoon for their walk. It’s pretty cute.

We’re doing turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, butternut squash and peas for dinner. I even got some dinner rolls as a little surprise. I know I shouldn’t but I love rolls at a fancy dinner.

We got a good deal on strawberries, so we’ll be having strawberry shortcake for dessert!

I am ready for Easter. In so many ways, for me, it means the start of spring, and after such a long cold winter, I am ready for spring.

Happy Easter, Everyone!

Pack This…Pack That!

I broke out the suitcases this morning and started to pack. I’d hoped that Hubby would pack his own, but alas, that is not to be. I managed to get my suitcase pretty much packed, and tomorrow I will have to sit him down and figure out what he is taking.

We drove to Rite Aid Pharmacy today because I needed to get those little plastic bottles for shampoo, conditioner and sunscreen that will go through Security. I also needed to buy panty hose. Now I almost never wear them, but with two formal nights, I need to have them with me.

I was checking out when the sales clerk asked me how I said my name. I told her and she said that she was related to my cousin Janet’s husband Dave! Thus, it is a small world and strangely, she and I are related in a weird way.

The funny thing is that I have known her for a while, and always liked her. So today I got a new friend/relative.

We arrived at home and I started thinking about what 3 ounces liquid containers I needed in my back pack, and I asked myself if I had flip flop sandals. I could have sworn I did. I looked and looked and about the time I was giving up, I found them. They needed some cleaning, but I have them to wear when I am either at the beach, or at the pool.

So everything is coming together. Just keep your fingers crossed that we can make all out flights on Wednesday morning.

Day 1, 2014

My first day of 2014 was spent trying to organize travel plans. After an hour or so I stepped back (figuratively) and let it go. Everything will work out and be fine. No worries!

After lunch Hubby went out to chop ice on our steps and I stayed in and worked on laundry, and packing lists. I keep reminding myself that less is more, so I don’t pack too much!

Then as the sun set and the house began to cool, I built a fire in the fireplace and got it going. It’s currently 9 degrees (F) and dropping. The fire feels so good and the dackels just love to lie all stretched out in front of it.

I had Anneliese to the Vet yesterday and she has some bacterial skin infection on the lower part of her belly. She is now on medications and I have to bathe her every other day. Surprisingly, she is a lot better today!

I wanted to share this with you all. A week before Christmas I went down to see Mandy and while I was there I was showing Savannah Dackel Princess. Well, she saw her pictures in the side bar and kept pointing and getting all excited.

In the last month I just feel that Savannah really not only understands what you say, but works very hard at communicating back with you! Now that is exciting for me! She is just growing up so fast!

Our Christmas!

We got up and we let the dogs have their toy gifts. They were so happy with their chew toys and their balls.
I made bacon, eggs and German Stollen with coffee and juice. Then we cleaned up, and dressed and got ready for our day with Mandy, Matt and Savannah.
We arrived a little early, about 1:30, and my former husband and his family were still there. It was so nice to see them all.
Hubby brought the wrapped car to the house first thing and brought it into the living room and Savannah immediately opened it and squealed with delight! She immediately jumped into it and had to get rides!

We opened presents and I was so happy that somehow Savannah found this Oma Mug for me!

Mandy and I worked on appetizers and snacks, and then eventually dinner. Matt cooked Cowboy steaks for himself and Hubby (they are very tender rib eye steaks with the bone still on.) It was so tender and delicious! Amanda made jumbo shrimp for the two of us. Then we had mashed potatoes, mashed butternut squash and green beans. For dessert, my apple crisp with vanilla ice cream.

I snuggled with Savannah as the day wore on. There is nothing better in the entire world, then when your grandchild is in your arms!

We had coffee and then left there about 7:30. We drove home and all was well. The dogs were happy to see us and after we let them out and they played, they came in and at about 10:30 I went to bed. I felt so tired.

I must tell you this is one of the very best Christmas’ I have had ever!

I hope you all had a wonderful one too!

Merry Christmas Eve

Gifts have been wrapped and cookies have been baked. Today I plan to make the apple crisp, peel the vegetables and prepare them to go from here to there, and then in the late afternoon we will pack the car for Christmas. Thus, I will not forget things.

I have the house sitter set to stay with the dogs on Christmas, so we don’t have to worry about getting home for them. We are so lucky to have a house sitter to just move in when we go.

I cannot believe that it will be Christmas in two days and that another year will be behind us in a week. How is it possible that time is slipping by so quickly?

Hubby and I watched “The Sound Of Music” on Saturday. The real one with Julie Andrews. What a beautiful young woman she was, and her voice, her acting, her expressions (especially in HD) were fabulous! There will never be another Maria in my mind, but Julie Andrews.

Merry Christmas Eve, Everyone!

Start To The Holidays

After spending the day wrapping gifts, I started thinking about some of the goody type things I might make for the big day. A friend of mine suggested Whoopie Pies, and it was then I had to admit that I really don’t like them.

whoopie pies

Now don’t get me wrong. I love chocolate cake. I love white frosting, but somehow when you make a “sandwich” out of the cake and frosting, well, it just doesn’t do it for me.

Now give me a Snickerdoodle Cookie and I am a really happy girl, but the Whoppie Pie? Not so much!

Snickerdoodles2

I’m thinking I may just make a batch of Snickerdoodles tomorrow. I really love them and I think I would enjoy it. I could also give my friend some.

I did get everything wrapped, and now it is closed away in my closet. You see, Greta loves to open presents! Yours, mine, anyone’s, so I have to hide everything until the actual day.

I do have presents for the dogs. Kong Balls for each of them, and chew toy rope toys. They’re wrapped and on Christmas morning they get to open them!

I hope you all had a good weekend before Christmas! Have a wonderful day and a half at work!

Saturday

On Saturday, Hubby and I went out to clear our driveway. It’s about 400 feet up hill, and since our snow blower died, we had done almost no shoveling. But with ice forecast for tomorrow, we decided to go out and clear the drive off.

We worked for two hours. I carefully slid the snow off the drive to the ditches on either side. The good news is, we got the drive completely cleared and so when it began to rain we were all set. Now, if we get ice? Well, I think we will be in for a while.

After we finished, we changed into dry clothes and then took off to do the last of our Christmas shopping.

We stopped at our local Chinese Buffet, where a few weeks ago I had dropped my credit cards on their floor. Our usual waitress picked them up and saved them for me and today I brought a little something for her and told her how much I appreciated her actions. She was really happy, and I think she appreciated the fact that I had not taken her kindness for granted.

Then Hubby and I hit the Outlet Mall. We went into a few stores and I kept running into people I knew. It was so much fun! Hubby kept joking that I knew more people at the Mall than the Governor of our State!

We got home in time to feed the hounds, and about that same time, my joints began to ache. All that snow and slush shoveling! So now I think a nice hot bath will be a good way to relax!

Feeling Better

I am finally feeling better! Yay, me! It’s been a long recovery. I’ve decided to take things slowly as I have already relapsed one time before this. And at this point, with Christmas and my vacation coming along, I certainly do not want to get sick again!

I’m doing well with my Christmas shopping. I only have two people left to buy things for and then I am done! Being sick and sitting in front of a computer where one can Christmas Shop, has been a very good thing!

I love Amazon!

I’ve started to write Christmas Cards. Yes, we’re sending them out, but without our usual Christmas letter. Just a small one explaining that 2013 has not been kind, with the exception of the light of our lives, Savannah Rose!

In order to print these up I need to get fresh cartridges for my 14 year old Hewlett Packard printer! It’s a great machine, but we’re having trouble getting ink for it now.

Hubby is off to the diabetic footwear shop tomorrow. It is very close to Walmart and I will have him get dog food and the printer ink when he is there.

Meanwhile, when he is out, I might just get that Christmas tree up! I keep saying I will do it and I haven’t. It’s time. Before Christmas arrives!

Thanksgiving Review

I’ve been preparing food for days. I even searched and searched for my favorite Ocean Spray Cran/Orange Relish, but to no avail. I’ve tried to make it from scratch and not been thrilled, so today I set about to make it. This is what I did.

I got one can of whole berry cranberry sauce. I had one beautiful fresh orange. I washed the orange, cut it into slices and then sections and then tossed it into the food processor, peel and all. I ground it up until it was a finely chopped consistency. Then I put in the can of whole berry cranberry sauce. and processed that a moment or two. I put it into a closed container and chilled it down. When we took our first bite at dinner, we knew I had succeeded! Quick and easy!

The dinner was great, and we waited a bit to have dessert, bu here we are now at 8:30 in the evening on Thursday and I am still simply stuffed! Stuffed and tired.

But it was a good day and Hubby and I toasted each other. 26 Thanksgivings together! Life is good!
