Today began with somewhat mild temperatures, but a tremendous increase in humidity. I quickly recalled my years living in south western Florida, as I stepped outside to check my plants after breakfast. Our neighbor came down bringing with her a cooler with two live lobsters, straight from Block Island, Rhode Island! Needless to say, for lunch we cooked the two lobsters and enjoyed every mouthful!
About 1:15 the skies darkened and an eerie feeling descended upon our area. We closed windows, turned off all our computer and satellite equipment and tuned into The Weather Channel. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning and as the storm approached us, they included a tornado warning.
The storm hit and for nearly half an hour it raged on with winds of 38 miles per hour, thunder, lightening and rain totaling 1-1/2 inches. And if that weren’t enough of a treat, we got some dime size hail thrown into the mix just for entertainment, and to mar Hubby’s beautiful apple and peach crop.

This is not a great picture, but it does show the hail hitting the tiles in the back yard. It was quite a storm, and quite honestly we haven’t had one that bad in many years.
My cousin Janet arrived with our friend, Michelle, and Emily was here too. Since it was still raining it was not possible to go for a hike so we stayed home and played the game “Apples to Apples” which I really enjoyed. In fact, I cannot remember playing a game that I enjoyed as much in a very long time.
Hubby inspected his fruit trees and in the late afternoon we changed and went over to Canoe and had a wonderful dinner! One fun thing was that the Boston Red Sox were playing an afternoon game. When we left to go to dinner they were leading 3-2. When we arrived we were seated in the bar area of the restaurant and noted that the game was now tied 3-3! This game went on all through dinner and just as we were having dessert, Kevin Youkilis hit a home run and won the game for the Red Sox! A perfect way to end a birthday dinner!
We dropped Emily at home, and then came back here where Janet and Michelle gathered their things and headed home.
Now the dogs are walked, the sun, lost somewhere in all the clouds, is setting. Another day is over.
Sounds like a bit of a storm indeed! And a very busy weekend to for you guys… We had a jam pack weekend, I am now glad to be here at work ‘resting’ so to speak!!! lol lol
Two new posts are up, a crafty update and I did a quick post over at L’s blog for her, she is more than a little upset at the moment…
Busy and good day here, but no rain or hail. I am exhausted and headed for bed, I’ll tell you more tomorrow after I catch some ZZZZZZZ’s.
Weren’t your doggies afraid of the thunderstorm ? Must have been quite rough. My cats usually disappear in some hidden corners ! We for once have warm and nice weather and I moved my laptop outside on the terrace.
Quite a storm there!! Hope it didn’t damage the fruit too much.
Hi Mom,
We had a good storm yesterday down south, but this morning was crazy…. I literally was soaked running outside for 10 seconds to put the trash out! Did not end up going away for the weekend, which was just as well…. We would have had a very late start Friday evening, so decided to postpone, and then there was not a 3rd girl to cover my spot for softball.
Hope you have a great day! I will give you a call on my way home tonight so we can catch up a bit!
Love you,
Mandy
I wish we could get some rain, but it is going to be dry and hot for the foreseeable future around here. Sorry the hail marred your fruit crop, but what a fun storm.
What a stormy weather and how well the drama is captured in the picture – well done Maribeth!
I do hope that this storm slow down on its way to Norway 🙂 – you see often we get the same weather as you a week or so afterwords.
And once again, thank you SO much for a lovely day!!! Mwah!
Thanks so much for being a wonderful hostess yesterday. I promise to come back soon and let you have the chance to beat me at Apples to Apples …. what a fun game.
