A Carrot Anyone?

The dackels have been watching me.

Why, you might ask? Well, I decided after the German Judge criticized Anneliese that perhaps all three of my dackels were a bit over weight. So I weighed them. Ah, well, let’s just say, I’m a good doggy cook.

So their diet immediately started. I got them some special diet canned food, and then I cut back on how much they are allowed to eat of the crunchies. Greta and Anneliese are not big crunchy fans, so they have been doing very well. I also stopped all plate scraps for them. Fritz, the lucky devil, gets it all. Slowly, they are both losing weight. Even Arnie is starting to look a little better.

I want to get Greta back to 18-19 pounds, Arnie at 18 and Anneliese down to 16-16 1/2 pounds. Fritz? Well let’s just say that the boy needs to maintain the weight he has and even put on a bit as he is very slender. But the boy runs and runs and runs and I can hardly keep the weight on him.

The dackels? Well, as I said they are following me everywhere. Watching, hoping, for a little cookie or treat. What do they get? Carrots! Luckily they love the baby carrots and are happy for those.

Oh I can truly relate to them. Today is my Weight Watchers meeting and I am really hoping for a good weight loss. I sure have been working hard and measuring every little thing that has gone into my mouth.

What can I say? Food is food, be it people food or doggy food, and we are all subject to putting on a little spare tire, aren’t we?

  1. Oh my God, I would die if I would have to keep a diet.
I LOVE food and eating. Ok, I am picky, that makes it easier for me. πŸ˜‰ But I love a good Steak with potatoes, or a Cheese Pizza with 4 different kinds of cheeses on,… yummy.

As for my two dogs: they are on diet as well. πŸ˜‰ They should both have about 30kg and have 32/ 33 right now. But it’s not easy to get them down. Whisky is no longer eating the diet food, he just refuses it. As he is very picky in general he gets his old food again, but less then he got before. And Saxon is still on diet food.
No I have to be very careful when I take them along to the stable as Saxon starts to eat everything he can get: horse food, carrots of course (they both love them) and sadly even horse shit – which is not so great!!
I take them along on long outrides and that helps a lot and they slowly get better.

  2. Dackel Diet…awwww…poor Dackels!!!!

Kidding. A little weight off goes a long way on these little guys, that’s for sure. πŸ™‚

  3. It’s amazing how cutting down on the food and stepping up the exercise helps πŸ™‚

My brother even noticed that Wolf was looking svelte these days!

  4. Doggie diet time! hahaha

Hope your weight watchers meeting goes well, and that you have a good day today!

    Lots of love,
    Mandy

  5. I’m such a bad bad BAD pet owner in that regard! I let Jewl have anything and everything… just NOT at the TABLE! LOL! Well… I hope they drop their little poundages quickly so they can get back to life as normal! Maybe an increase in exercise would help!

  6. I have been wondering how the dog show went. Sorry that judge thought your little dackels were a little overweight. I was especially thinking of you while watching the dog show on tv the other afternoon. I didn’t know a dog would eat a carrot πŸ™‚ Learn something new everyday, I guess.

Now…have you worked on the scarf you started yet? You asked me to badger you, so consider yourself badgered. πŸ™‚

  7. Poor pups, stuck with carrots instead of treats. I can sympathize, I really need to cut back on the garbage myself.

I love your new sidebar pic, you look great. The foliage trip sounds beautiful. We just did the little run up to Weirs but the kids loved it.

PS Of course you can ask me whatever you like, just shoot me an e-mail.
