Planting Time

It was planting day here at the Dackel Princess home. Immediately after breakfast I changed clothes and then got out the dirt. Excuse me, soil. You see peat moss, which is what the man sold me the first time, is far different than the soil that I bought the second time. The soil I got, which is fabulous, is full of nutrients, and small fertilizer pellets that slowly feed the seedlings as they grow.

Although I bought a couple of plants, I also bought seeds. Here is a tomato plant I bought this week

I’m really lucky to have this little greenhouse to start my vegetables.

Here are my seed packets.

I set about filling square pots of the good soil, and then planting and marking each pot.

In the end, I had a tidy looking shelf of seeds and re-potted plants.

Then I went for a walk about with Hubby to view his fruit trees when I came upon a bee in the tree pollinating a blossom.

and as I watched (and clicked) he climbed out,

Fritz was a great help today to both Hubby and myself. He sat up under his Peach tree, where he could observe both Hubby and I as we did our various jobs!

  1. Ah, you had a wonderful day there.
Here we got sun too yesterday but a nasty wind. Today it’s partly cloudy and we only have about 16 degree. I am so ready for summer now.
Love the picture of Fritz, he is such a handsome boy.

  2. I admire your patience and your green thumb ! I couldn’t do that, I only like to eat fresh and nicely tasting vegetables, lol ! But it’s great to have this as a hobby at least you know what you are eating !
Fritz is adorable, I wouldn’t say he looks like Arthur, only the fur !

  3. DARN! I had the right dirt all along! Shoot! Well, NOW fortunately it’s warm enough to start seeds outdoors and I have some radishes that are doing just fiiiiiine. Everything else that I started INDOORS just fizzled! My tomatoes I bought from plants though and they are doing well… I guess I’m going to have to blog my efforts soon!

I LOVE your little green house! 🙂 That is awesome! I don’t see me getting one of them anytime soon. 🙁

I DO love spring! Right now I have 10 BIG bags of cedar mulch I need to spread around the house… but today it is raining… so that is not happening either!

I love the shots of the bee – he was a busy one – doing his job!

  4. You have a really cool greenhouse. Lucky girl! I used to start seedlings at this time too when I lived in NY. I tried here for a while but when we started spending the summer in Sweden I gave it up for obvious reasons. I know only have perrenials which manage themselves while we are away.

  5. I’m a day late in commenting, but I love the seedling, cherry blossom & Fritz pics! Also admire your little greenhouse, and tidy row of seedling pots – wonderful!

  6. I see your Tomato plants are coming healthy and are so sorrow our summer comes very late this year. We could not start indoor as normal this winter due to kittens.
    Only Paprika/pepper seeds so far.
i.e. we will buy in the local Green House when we move to our Summer House in a few weeks time (later than normal).
