Easter

Easter cross flowers birds

Easter came to us over the weekend. I do not often talk about my spirituality, but I will tell you, that I am a devout Christian. I have believed in the love of Jesus Christ all my life, and I do believe that he died for us, and one day, I will dwell in the afterlife, in the house of the Lord.

John 14:2 King James Version
“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

Many of the difficult times in my life, when I would have fallen by the wayside, I got through, because of my faith.

John 3:16 King James Version
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

I spent Easter, with Hubby, and the two of us spoke of life, the world, and the challenges facing us all. Most things I am powerless to change. But I can pray to God for his care for all of our world.

I hope your Easter was spent with family and with love in your hearts. Oh yes, and perhaps a little chocolate too!

TBT: Back In Time

Recently I heard of the plans for my High School’s 40th Reunion. Forty Years since we graduated from school!

My High School graduation picture.

How on earth did that happen? It seems like just yesterday that we were carefree kids on Cape Cod. Going to school September through June and then the summers…the summers on the Cape growing up, were so magical.

In my youth Mom would pack a cooler with sandwiches and soda’s and we had another bag with blankets and towels,  and Mom’s latest read.

We would walk down to the beach from our house, a mere five minute walk, and stay the day. As a real little one I took swimming lessons, but God made me a fish, and before I knew it I literally lived in the water until my lips were blue and Mom would pull me out to warm up.

In my teens I worked part time at various things. Baby sitting, as a shoe store clerk, and in a stationary shop. But there was always time for my greatest love. The Ocean.

So, I was thinking about going to this year’s event. I’m not one to spend money on myself, but this is important. I want to see some of these people, and I want to visit my hometown again.

A classmate arranged for descent hotel rooms at one of the local Inns. I snagged a single room, very small, just for me. Having never done anything like this before, I plan to go and do the things I want to do.

There are walks I want to take, a specific drive I want to make and people I want to stop and see. Most of all, I want to take some time, quietly, just for me. Something I never do.

Good News-Bad News

I spent the entire day on Sunday, out of bed and I watched soccer and movies and a few first run episodes of my favorite shows. Life is getting back to being normal, post flu, and it is good.

The bad news was that yesterday morning, Hubby woke up coughing. I yelled, No, No, No! But he continued to cough all day long. Ugh!!!

The good news is that he has no fever, or any of the other symptoms, so he may escape (and me too) with just a simple cold.

After welcoming Spring in yesterday, with the bluest of skies and the brightest of sunshine, I woke today to heavy snow. We really have not had much snow, and it is pretty, but I am so over winter!

Today one of us must venture out to the grocery store. I am out of bread, eggs and half and half for my coffee and tea. You know, the important things!

Have a great Monday!

Springtime Colds

There is one thing I hate in this world more than politics, it is being sick!

Last night I started having chills. I had a little cough, and my head hurt like crazy. I didn’t have a fever, but I did have a terrible taste in my mouth, and I felt like I was walking through thick molasses when I got up and moved around.

I went to bed early, but in the night kept feeling worse and worse. So, when I woke up this morning, I took my temperature and it was 101.2!

I am so darn angry to be sick for several reasons, but the biggest one is that until I am in tip top shape, I will not be able to go and see my grandson!

Rats, Rats, Rats!

I know that this is viral, because I am on antibiotics for my sinuses. Here I am just one giant sick blob, and I am not happy about this at all!

Well, today I will take the day to rest and sleep and do not very much, and hopefully tomorrow I will be feeling worlds better.

Springtime colds are simply no fun at all!

No Memory At All

On Saturday I decided to wash my winter jacket. It just needed it, and since I’ll be going to my daughter’s house, I at least, wanted it clean.

After it was in the wash, I realized I needed to go and get the mail, and a few groceries. So I went to the front hall closet to see what I could find.

I pulled out a coat and thought initially it was Hubby’s. It was black and of a sueded material. Then I noticed the faux fur around the hood. I looked at the size tag. Women’s! It was my coat. But I kid you not, I have no memory of getting this coat. Must have been a few years ago during an LL Bean sale.

I have not worn the coat all during this time. It fits perfectly, and looks very nice. So guess what I’ll be wearing when I drive south to be with my daughter and her family for the birth of her son, my grandson.

Have you ever gotten a coat or jacket and then forgotten you bought it and just tucked it away?

Another Busy, Busy, Busy!

What an incredibly busy day I had today. Very productive and also helpful as I prepare for tomorrows storm. It all started when I woke up.

I could still feel some cartilage where my tooth used to be, so I called first thing this morning and got an appointment for late in the day.

Meanwhile, breakfast was made, and cleaned up, laundry was done, and I was out the door at eleven o’clock to buy Hubby a battery for his blood testing machine, and get the mail.

After that I rushed to my hairstylists appointment, and just like Tinkerbell, she waved her magic wand and suddenly my hair color was what it had been when I was a mere teenager! My, my, that girl is good.

I came home in time to make lunch. I know you read all that I did above and that was all before lunch! So lunch was made and Hubby was happy, but my mouth was bothering me, so I couldn’t finish eating.

Hubby decided to go off for a walk with Lili, who just looks forward to these little forays with her Daddy, like you would not believe!

Hubby arrived back and out the door I went for my dental exam. After getting some Novocaine, he found the cartilage, removed it and sent me on my way.

Tonight I’m feeling a little sore, but pretty happy that I got so much done in one day. Tomorrow is supposed to be the big storm, so I am prepared to hunker down, and watch some movies and do laundry.

A great way to spend a snow day!

Away With You Mr. Molar

I went to my dentist today. I swear I have been paying his mortgage for a few years now, with all of my dental problems. Today was no different.

I started having a problem with the back, top, left molar this past weekend. I knew I had the appointment today, so I didn’t call him, but waited, in pain, until today.

It was something Hubby and I talked about, because this tooth has been problematic for a few years. It really is not a good candidate for a root canal, because of the area of my face where the root comes. Unfortunately for me, the root is precariously near my sinus.

I also wasn’t sure I wanted to spend 5 grand on an implant. I’d rather take a vacation.

So, when the doctor looked at the tooth today and tested it, he agreed that my best bet was to have the tooth pulled. But, he wants a dental surgeon to do it, due to the problems with the sinus.

Many, many, years ago, when I was in 8th grade I had to have the bottom back molar pulled when it became abscessed. With the top molar being pulled, there will be no difference in my chewing.

So, Tuesday I get a small cavity filled, and then Wednesday I get the tooth pulled.

If I had one thing I could go back and tell my child self, it would be to brush and floss and cut out the sugar. It hasn’t helped my teeth and it sure hasn’t helped my weight!

Freezing!

The weekend was a cold one. In fact the coldest one we’ve had in a couple of years. Waking to temperatures of 12-20 below zero (F), made me want to hunker down with a blanket, and three dachshunds in my lap. But, even then, my hands and feet felt cold all weekend long.

I spent part of Saturday with a temperature and chills and a lot of mouth pain. My top left back molar also painful, the gum swollen and I’m having a nervous breakdown thinking that this tooth may need to be root canaled.

I’m thinking of just having it pulled. You see way back in my youth the molar on that side on the bottom was pulled and so there hasn’t been anything for the top tooth to hit and chew with.

It is just coincidence that I have an appointment on Monday morning with my Dentist. We shall see what he says, and go from there.

I have managed to stay on the WW program all week. I’ll find out Wednesday if I have lost anything. I sure hope that I have because I really have changed the way I eat, and I have measured and counted all the Smart Points I’ve eaten.

I find this program really steers me in the direction of eating healthier. If you look for zero point foods, well, there is a lot to eat.

Wish me luck!

The End

Yesterday I saw my Neurologist and got an A+ after he saw my xrays and examined me. Everything is healing nicely, and my titanium plate and pins are sitting perfectly!

I’ve been nervous about the appointment, so I was really happy to hear that everything was fine. And he finally answered my biggest question. Is the plate in the front or the back? Well as you can see, it is in the front. I told him that since I had the surgery I haven’t been able to wear a turtleneck. He thought that was rather strange, and told me to keep him updated if that remains so. I also asked whether I would set off the alarms at the airport. He said I shouldn’t, but once again, to let him know.

So I am done with the surgical part and back on my feet. I’ll be off on Saturday to babysit for Savi. My favorite thing in the world, spending time with Savannah!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Well, let’s stow the football jerseys for another year. The Patriot’s (New England’s Football team) lost their playoff game. They will not be going to the Super Bowl. So, here in New England, we are grieving and for us, the football season is over!

I admit to some swearing and screaming, but well, the guys never called me for advice, so the loss is a loss and the season is over.

It’s now five and a half weeks since my spinal surgery. All in all, I am doing very well. I go back on Tuesday for my xrays, and after surgery exam. That’s when I learn if all was successful and I hope I will get pictures of my implant.

So life is good, I’m feeling stronger every day and before long I will be back to my old self. Perhaps even better because the neck is in order.

Happy Monday!
