Short & Sweet

Hubby and I went out today to get the grocery shopping done. It was a crappy day, but Hubby was convinced that the stores would be empty and we’ve breeze in and out.

How wrong he was. The stores were packed and this meant it took us forever to get the shopping done. Worse than that was driving back home, we got his with a fierce hail storm. Unbelievable!

We finally got in, and I raced in so I could walk the dogs and get them their dinner. Hubby was a doll and brought up all the groceries. Of course I still had to put it all away, but that’s okay.

Tomorrow my girls are coming for lunch. I can hardly wait!

Fruit, Vegetables & Fish!

In the last few days we have had snow, and then snow, and then more snow. In fact as I write, it is snowing once again!

Enough! I want spring!!!

I went to Weight Watchers and I did indeed lose some weight! Yay! I think the key for me is to write everything down that I eat and keep track of my points. I also need to make better selections. And learn to love what I am eating. More fruit, more vegetables, and more fish!

Right now I not only need to lose weight, but I need to use nutrition to help rebuild my immune system. I’ve had a rough Autumn/Winter physically and I don’t think I have much resistance to anything.

In fact I go to the doctor today to see about finding a way to get well and stay well. I sure hope he can help.

Junk

Well, I was talking to Hubby the other day about my frustration in organizing my life. Where on earth do I start? Unfortunately I am not one of those super neat people who goes through life touching things, only to find that the item leaves my hand and miraculously arrives right where it is supposed to be. No, that’s not me. I will confess that I have junk drawers in every room! Doesn’t everyone? No?

So my goal is to start and room by room rid myself of these junk drawers and do something that is very hard for me to do.

Throw things away!

I’m one of those people who thinks, “How can we throw this away? We might need it in ten years!”

So, since I am mostly house bound these days due to the snow and ice, I might as well make good use of this time and start organizing. I have to do this before that TV show “Hoarders” comes a calling.

Yes, it’s time for me to break out the cleaning tools and clean up all my junk!

Weight Watcher’s Class

On Wednesday I returned to Weight Watchers. I had been unable to go since before Thanksgiving. I was so nervous and although the “news” wasn’t good, the fact that I went back and now want to start and get myself back on the losers wagon, is good news indeed!

Last year wasn’t good to my waistline. With all of the surgeries, and the fact that I looked like Frankenstein, I just did not care how many chocolates I ate, or cookies, or anything else that was going to make me fat. What did it matter?

However, my face has healed and my body is not the body I want to be walking around in. So, it was back to class I went.

The other members were all so wonderful and made me feel welcome to be back once again. I listened to everyone and today I just kept my mouth shut. Sometimes you just need to soak things up.

I have a long way to go, but I promise to keep you all up to date on my progress.

Groceries

I went out on Monday and was actually able to get a great shopping done. I needed to stock up on so much, and I had a ton of coupons. I actually saved just under $20.00 with them!

We also stopped for lunch at our little Chinese Buffet, and as I was getting some food I looked up and there was my doctor. I am actually due to go see him this week. We chatted a moment and then I wished him a good day.

A friend of mine many years ago, was a doctor, and he could hardly go out to get groceries without the little old ladies bugging him. So I have always backed off when seeing my doctors in restaurants.

Meanwhile, in the grocery store I met a man stocking the cheese shelves. He was having a tough day and I smiled and said, “Oh I so understand. I did this job for quite a while myself”. The man smiled and asked me where I had worked?

“Alexander’s Supermarket in Merrimack, New Hampshire.”

“Oh, said the man, I remember that place. My Mom took me there all the time when I was a kid before it closed”.

Yes, I now feel very old. This man looked about my age, but was obviously not.

We came home and put all those groceries away. Wow, were there so many! It felt good though. I have the house full of good foods, and as of Wednesday, it is back to Weight Watchers for me.

Out & About

Friday I was finally able to go out. I have been house bound since January 18th and finally today, I went out. I got some groceries, I picked up the mail, and I saw this little town I live in getting ready for the Ice Fishing Derby.

It is very cold, but I bundled up, wore my old winter hat and gloves and off I went. Hubby came with me, mostly because he is still worried about me and feeling over protective. I was glad he was there. By the time we were done, I was feeling tired, and on the way home I did not have to think about snow covered roads.

I wanted to go to the grocery store because my cousins, Janet and Dave are coming tomorrow for lunch. I have learned how to make the perfect Pastrami Reuben Sandwich. So, tomorrow I plan to wait until they are here, and then show Janet how I do it all. Maybe I will have her take pictures for me.

Well, now that they have interviewed the President for a half an hour, hopefully they will get on and show us the Opening Ceremonies from the Olympics!

I Want To…

I want to…

  • Go and spend the day with Savannah and Amanda and just talk and play with Sav and have time with them. It’s been too long.
  • Go see my sister and spend a few days so we can talk and do sister things. I haven’t seen her since Mom’s services.
  • Get back to Weight Watcher Class and get the strength of the program and see my friends.
  • Feel better and stronger and get rid of this insidious cough!
  • Get the dackels stripped and trimmed up.
  • Work on a sewing project and repair my favorite blanket. I have this cotton comforter I bought in Germany 25 years ago and it is starting to become tattered. Time for me to sew it up and perhaps put a binding on it.
  • Go and get my hair done. I need color and this time I actually need a shaping cut.
  • Sleep through the night without a cough drop in my mouth!
  • Plan something special for our anniversary in April. (26 years)
  • Write more each day.

Today would have been my grandmother’s birthday. She has been gone since I was 26 years old. I still miss her a great deal. I hope she knows that every time I have a cup of tea I think of her!

Back In The Saddle Again

I admit. Since we returned from our trip I have not done much at all. I have slept, watched TV, and hibernated.

I think it was the snow that was falling when we landed at Logan Airport on the 18th of January. Yes, that’s it. The shock of being back in the northeast after being down in the warmth.

But today I decided to get off my chair and do the laundry and change the sheets. You know, the important stuff.

I also took out some lovely chicken breasts, stuffing I made a month or so ago and tucked in the freezer and peeled the rutabaga and potatoes for our dinner.

So Hubby and I will have clean underwear and socks to wear, clean sheets to sleep on, and a normal and decent dinner meal!

Hubby asked if I had a fever? Have I lost what little of my mind that I have left? Or am I just getting back on schedule?

I’m going with the losing my mind. It’s more entertaining than a fever or just getting back on schedule.

Have I mentioned the dogs are happy to have us home? Yup, Arnie and Greta stick to me like glue during the day and at night, Anneliese is my little cuddle bunny in bed.

So, it was a successful day today and I’m starting to feel pretty good about being productive.

I Need A Vacation

From our cabin, we could see the bridge of the ship. There was always so much happening when we anchored off shore, or docked at an island. Yes, the bridge got very busy!

January 11 14 036

There were times it was nearly empty, and I wondered who was watching things. But then, todays ships are so modern they have all the bells and whistles.

On our ship, it was commanded by a Commodore Giuseppe Romano. This means he is a senior captain. I met him twice and saw him on the ship a few times. He seemed a nice enough man.

I sure liked the crew members that we dealt with. Our Cabin Steward, the waiters at our table and the breakfast crew.

I’m still working on getting my land legs! What is it they say? I need a vacation from my vacation!

Home

To me, as much as I love to travel, I also love to come home. Especially after a long trip away from my four dogs.

Yes, the dogs are a lot of work. Taking them out for walks, feeding them on schedule, and making sure they get their little cookie bones.

However after 10 days, it was really good to get home and see them all! If a dog can smile, these four sure did!

My only problem upon arriving home was a 103 temperature, and a sore throat. I actually started to feel bad on the airplane, and Jack said I got very quiet. (This is very unusual, as I am a very chatty person.)

This caused me several cold glasses of soda and a very early bedtime.

Now that I am up and about again I will be trying to get together a journal of my trip with some pictures. The first few days on the ship we had pretty good Internet service, then nothing. It was very frustrating.

So stay tuned for more about our trip. It really was a nice one.
