A Visit With My Girls!

I went down to see Savannah Rose and Mandy on Monday. What a great time I had. I just love Mandy so much, and I really love seeing her as a Mom. She is just the best!

Aug 6 12 012

As you can see, Savannah’s eyes are getting blue-er by the minute!

I got home very late and Hubby and I didn’t even eat dinner until nearly 9 PM. I’ve got a dentist appointment in the morning, but I promise I will write more about the visit and put in a few more pictures. For now, I need to get to bed!

What I Did This Past Weekend

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

I was far more productive this past weekend then I thought I would be. I cooked, I did laundry, I weeded in my garden, and I even did one very big project that I’ve wanted to do for years, and just never got around to.

I took all the recipes I have in my email folder, and cut and pasted them into a word document, complete with some pictures to make my very own “Cookbook”!

It was a big project, but one I could do while sort of watching the Olympics. Finally I have over 125 recipes that I make fairly often, typed out and in one usable area.

I do love Thunderbird for my email, but it is getting less and less user friendly and I may have to switch over to Outlook Express.

We got caught in a big frontal passage. Luckily, Hubby had picked the first fruit off of a smaller peach tree, so the high winds didn’t injure the tree. But the wind blew, the rain came pelting down and we even got a small amount of hail. It was the sort of storm where you stand in the middle of your house and watch, hoping that none of your beloved fruit trees gets damaged.

I’m off to spend the day with my girls! Oh I can hardly wait to see them both! I know Savannah is growing and changing every day, and I know, Mandy is enjoying her maternity leave. I will just hate it when she goes back to work. I’ve really enjoyed having the time to go and spend the day visiting.

Happy Monday Everyone!

Knees And The Internet!

On Saturday morning, I actually was having a little mini fit because I was watching Maria Sharipova play the worst game of her life, and it was breaking my heart. I slipped into my bathing suit and a pair of shorts (I never show my hips and thighs in public!) and went out to tend to the garden. I weeded and watered it and of course, whenever I work in the garden I get incredibly filthy. You know, dirty knees. Anyway, I glanced at the clock when I came in for a drink and realized I had 15 minutes to get to the Post Office!

So without thinking, I jumped in the car and raced to the Post Office and got the mail. (Honestly, it could have waited until Monday!) I then decided to run to the grocery store and get a few things.

I was dodging Tourists and actually made my way to the dairy section, when I heard a mother talking to her 8 year old son.

“Oh Tommy, look at you! You’re covered with dirt! Couldn’t you have washed before we came out?”

I looked down at my knees and sure enough, they were covered with garden dirt! I was so embarrassed!

I came home, and washed my knees and told Hubby the story. He is still giggling!

Around three o’clock I went to send an email and I noticed that my server was down. We called only to find that our Server was having a big crisis. Everything from the Internet to the TV Cable was down! Thank goodness we also have satellite TV, so we didn’t miss the Olympics!

About two hours later we could surf the internet, but our mail is still down, with no promises of when it will be back up.

I’m planning to be up bright and early to watch Roger Federer play Andy Murray. I’m rooting for Roger. Is that mean? I mean, Roger is in his 30’s. How many more Olympics does he have? Andy can make the next Olympics with no problem at all.

Back to the TV! The Olympics are calling!

The Olympic Challenge

The week is over and I am not sure where it went! Actually I do, I spent far too much time watching the TV and my computer for coverage of the Olympics! I have watched so many different sports and learned about them too. I think for the first time I’ve actually experienced the Olympics.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve always enjoyed the gymnastics, and the swimming, and the diving, but now I am into Beach Volleyball, archery, weight lifting, judo, tennis, basketball, well, I could go on and on. It’s been eye opening.

Our own USA Gymnast, Gabby Douglas won the Gold for the All-Around Gymnast,

Gabby1

and many of my favorite athletes, be they from the USA or other countries are all doing well.

I sat here for three hours watching the Federer/Del Potro tennis match this morning, live. I was actually yelling at Roger via my TV screen.

In many ways, I’ve gotten worse than Hubby. He at least has been doing things, besides watching the Olympics.

I did work today making spaghetti sauce from our garden tomatoes.

Sept 2 011

However, I can stand at the counter in the kitchen and watch the big screen TV. Doesn’t it look good?

Saturday, I need to do laundry. I’ve decided how I will get this done. I will take the kitchen timer and set it to go off when each load of clothes will be ready. Otherwise, I will simply forget and get lost in sport!

I’ve decided what I could get an Olympic Gold Medal for.

Watching the Olympics! LOL!

Friday Fill-Ins

Friday Fill-Ins

Friday Fill-Ins are sponsored by my cousin Janet. Come on and join the fun!

And…here we go!

1. Well, ok, maybe I should have thought about cleaning my air conditioner before it started to make horrific noises!.
2. Best wife ever? Now that’s a stretch!
3. When I’m making making peach jam, I get lost in thought and truly enjoy the experience.
4. I like it when my family and friends are all feeling good. But for now, I wish a few of them were a bit healthier.
5. And frankly, I live each day trying to bring peace and love to those around me.
6. My teeth are the root of all evil. But hopefully once the root canal and crown are on, my mouth will cease hurting.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to watching the Olympics, tomorrow my plans include watching more of the Olympics and Sunday, I want to watch more Olympics and get ready to go down on Monday to see Mandy and Savannah! Yay!!!

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen miscellaneous things.

  1. Savannah Rose is now two months old! She weighs 13 pounds and is 23 inches long!
  2. 2 months

  3. I’ve been screwing up with my eating lately. On Wednesday I weighed in and I was shocked. So it is back on track for me.
  4. This is tough because in the summer I love to eat all the things that one shouldn’t eat, like chips and burgers and dips.
  5. I told Hubby that now I need to eat, fruit and vegetables, and cut out the junk! I’ll report in each week and I hope that keeps me honest!
  6. It was so wonderful to see the Women’s Gymnastic Team win the Gold Medal at the Olympics!
  7. I also loved seeing the joy on Marta Karolyi’s face! She was so proud of her girls!
  8. Love, love, love, the tennis as well. I’m hoping Roger Federer wins the gold.
  9. I’ve been watching a lot of the Olympics. Both on the TV and online.
  10. Favorite sports, gymnastics, swimming, diving and equestrian.
  11. I found that watching the fencing was sort of interesting, but I did not understand the rules at all. Or the point structure.
  12. Hubby knows it all. He is a real sports aficionado! Thank goodness.
  13. The peaches in the yard are getting pink and lovely. We’ll be picking soon.
  14. When I got the munchies today, I looked around, panic in my mind! I ran to the fridge and got a long stalk of celery. I chewed and chewed until I felt more under control. Boy, losing this weight is really going to be a challenge!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. I’m joining my daughter1 in the 101 in 1001 challenge. Essentially you create a list of 101 things you hope to do or accomplish in the next 1001 days. What’s one thing you’d put on your list?

We’re talking about my office again. Really it is just terrible. It’s on the other side of my house, and I avoid looking in at all costs. The other thing is my closet. I desperately need to clean it out and get things together to donate.

2. How many remote controls do you have in your house? What’s one item in your home you wish could be operated by remote control?

Five. Just for our family room TV/DVD/VHS/Satellite. Then two in our bedroom and two in the guest room and then 3 remotes for the air conditioner and one for the sun awning. I’m the only one who knows which ones work on what, and how to operate them. One thing I wish worked on remote? The door to let the dogs in and out!

3. What does having it all mean to you? Is it attainable?

Some people are pretty screwed up about this. Having it all to me means, sharing life with the ones I love. Good health and happiness. The rest will take care of itself.

4. What’s your favorite movie soundtrack?

It’s got to be The Sound of Music! What beautiful songs! Second favorite….The Lake House. No sung words, but beautiful themes.

5. Describe the best view you’ve seen from a rooftop.

I think it was when we went to the top of the Empire State Building in New York. It was a nice day and the view of the city was beautiful! But, I tend to dislike heights, so I don’t go up that high too often.

6. What’s your least favorite thing about summer?

When it gets too hot. You can only take off so many clothes. I much prefer winter, as you can always add another layer.

7. Our weekly Hodgepodge falls on the first day of August. In ten words or less sum up your July.

Crazy. Root canal. Beautiful Savannah. Vegetables. Dill Pickles. Greek Festival.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Savannah Rose is now 2 months old! Can you believe that? It’s gone so fast, and yet, it always seems like she has been here, and always that I have known her!

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

Well, this was a crazy weekend. The highlight was the Greek Festival, where so much happiness and merriment was had. The Olympics began and after a little bit of frustration about not being able to watch things live on NBC and their affiliates, I discovered I could watch many of the events live on the internet! Yay!

On Sunday morning I watched the Women’s Preliminary All Around Gymnastics, from beginning to end! The only problem with this is that watching non-stop feeds, leaves no time for bathroom breaks! LOL!

One of our Gymnasts, a young girl named Gabrielle Douglas, is amazing!

Gabby

They nicknamed her the Flying Squirrel because, she truly does fly! She is young, graceful and if she doesn’t get a Gold Medal this time, I think in 4 years she will be a seasoned veteran and ready for the intense pressure these kids must feel.

Meanwhile on the home front, I ended up with 10 pounds of ripe pickling cucumbers! What to do, what to do! I have plenty of bread and butter pickles, Plenty of the Moon Glow Pickles, so what do I do? I looked at Hubby and asked, “Well, how about we try to make Dill Pickles?”

Off I went to the grocery to buy some fresh Dill Weed. I also had a package to pick up at the Pharmacy, so I got that first then went into the grocery. I picked up the Dill and headed to the cash registers. That’s when the sky opened and the rain began to come down so hard, that suddenly the roads looked like ponds!

Of course, I had no umbrella, so I took my bags and ran to the car as fast as I could. Apparently I am not as fast as I once was, because I got soaked to the skin! When I got home and came inside, I looked like a drowned rat!

After putting on dry clothes, I proceeded to make lunch, and afterward we worked on Dill-ing the cucumbers! That done, we must wait for three weeks before we can can them! Stay tuned…

Happy Monday Everyone!

Zucchini & Eggplants & Cucumbers, Oh My!

Remember a few weeks ago, I was lamenting the fact that the little chipmunk was eating my garden out from under me, and I would not have anything to eat or can? Well, I was wrong. In the last few days, all of a sudden, the garden is overflowing with wonderful vegetables!

July 28 002

I started cooking about noon, preparing a spaghetti sauce for the freezer. I also used a small amount in my stuffed zucchini for tonight’s meal. But I have to tell you, I had forgotten how much work went into making the sauce, making the stuffed zucchini, and then the worst part, cleaning it all up!

Sept 2 011

The sauce is a wonderful thing. I freeze it, and then in the winter when I do not feel like cooking, out comes a container of sauce, we boil up spaghetti and there is dinner!

Hubby made his German Cucumber Salad and used up about 4-5 cucumbers. Bless him! I am not a fan of that salad (cucumbers & onions sliced very thin, oil and red wine vinegar and salt, pepper and dill), but I am grateful he is using up the cukes!

TonightI am feeling pretty tired. Call me an old lady! But all the cooking and cleaning, has me looking at the clock just waiting for bedtime!

Worst thing about it all….I have to do more of it tomorrow! Oh well, at least the eggplant are coming in and I can have those sweet delicious goodies for lunch!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. The Summer Olympics officially begin this Friday night…will you be watching? If you could see just one event in person which one would you pick?

I would go to the “All Around Women’s Gymnastics”. I think in the Summer Games, the Gymnastics are my favorite.

2.Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

Unproductive. Lately I feel like I should be doing more.

3. July 25th is ‘officially’ Threading the Needle Day…can you sew? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being not at all and 10 being Betsy Ross-like, how would you rate your skill with a needle and thread?

I’m a 2. I can do simple repairs, but not much else. I recently bought a new “Smart Machine” and it makes doing things so much easier! I repaired Hubby’s shorts, with a really cute stitch. I was so proud how it came out.

4. ‘Threading the Needle’ can also mean to walk a fine line between two things or issues (think awkward social situation). When was the last time you had to ‘thread the needle’, figuratively speaking?

Recently I resigned from being a Library Trustee. I did this because I was really tired of “walking the fine line”. Goodness, this isn’t even a job I got paid for. And politically I was apposed to much of what was being said and done.

5. Kidney, pinto, black, or navy…your favorite bean?

Purple Beans! They grow deep dark purple, and then as you cook them they turn green.

Aug 1 004

Aug 11 a close up_edited-1

The thing is, they really taste better, almost nuttier than regular green beans.

6. Have you ever hosted a garage sale? Was it more success or bust?

No, but I really should. Mostly, I give things away to the Salvation Army or St. Vincent Du-Paul.

7. What makes you roll your eyes?

When people tell me that they can’t do things, or make it through things, etc. After my daughter passed away people would say, “Oh I don’t know how you are doing this. I would just die if I lost my child”. Well, you don’t. It’s a crappy situation, but you somehow learn to survive.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

This is my 3000-th post on Dackel Princess! When I went to write this morning I noticed and it made me think, when I started this I had exactly three readers, and two of them I was related to. Now I get hits from all over the world! I feel so blessed to have made so many Blog Friends!
