The Puppy Room

I took big old Fritz in to have his yearly shots today at our Veterinarian’s office. He was an angel and even though he is strong, he did obey me when I told him to sit, to wait and to get into the car. In fact the command to get in the car was hardly out of my mouth when he leapt into it!

Dr. Chris asked if I had the puppy room set up yet, and he also asked how Miss Anneliese was doing. I mentioned that she was doing well, but pretty much stays in the kitchen now stretched out on the throw rug in there.

So Dr. Chris mentioned I might want to set up the puppy room so that Anneliese has a chance to get used to it.

I came back home with Fritz and once I settled him down, I looked at our mud room to determine how to go about this transformation.

I have a table in there that we use under our mirror to hold our hats and gloves in the winter. Okay, that would go into our dining room. Check!

Then we have a bench that holds all the yard toys for the dogs, and extra gloves and hats. Okay, that goes into the dining room too. Check!

We have pegs on the wall that we hang up our jackets on, so all those jackets needed to be moved into the front hall closet. Check!

I got out the vacuum and cleaned everything with that, and then got out the disinfectant and washed everything down. Floors, walls, etc. Check!

I sat down long enough to watch “All My Children” (yes, I know, no snickering please!) then got out the kiddie pool and washed it down with disinfectant too, dried it and put it in the puppy room. Check!

I brought out the towels, all my birthing supplies and placed them in a tote bag which I hung on a peg. Check!

So in just 12 or so days we will be welcoming little bundles into our home and they will settle in the puppy room, with their Mommy, Anneliese and their Granny, Maribeth.

I can hardly wait!

Easter

I was amazed at the brightness of the day, and although it was very cold and windy, somehow the sunshine made me feel like spring had really come to New Hampshire.

I was up early, and turned on the coffee. Then I put on my coat and went out to walk the dogs.

I am beginning to think that perhaps some evil household appliance ghost is haunting me, because when I got back, instead of finding a nicely brewed pot of coffee, I found the coffee had jammed the drip area and spilled all over the counter top! A little had made it into the pot, so I took a cup and filter, and poured some into the cup, so that while I cleaned up the coffee mess, I did, at least have a cup of coffee to drink.

Once the coffee mess was cleaned up, I made breakfast. A WW modified version of French Toast/Bananas Foster! It was really good!

Just as I finished cleaning up the kitchen, Anneliese stretched out before me. All of her! Oh my goodness she gets bigger by the second!

She really enjoys sunning herself.

Do you see this belly? Amazingly big!!!

April 12 001

Well, we will find out on Friday how many little babies she has inside, and then really it is just two weeks from now until the puppies are due.

Our Easter dinner will be roasted lamb, roasted potatoes, and asparagus! All my favorites.

I hope you all had a blessed Easter or Passover!

Anneliese Update

My little Princess is getting very big! I swear she grows by the hour! She seems a lot more tired now, and likes to sleep quite a bit.

April 10 006

She also is unable to eat big meals any more. So I leave a dish of crunch food out for her all the time and twice a day I give her some wet food.

April 10 001

I am beginning to think that next week I need to get the puppy room all set up, complete with a ready whelping box.

April 10 004

I can hardly wait until next Friday, April 17th when we have the x-ray done. I wonder just how many babies she has in that belly of hers.

What do you think?

Chubby Anneliese

I came home today, a mere four days since going down to my sister’s house and I couldn’t believe the change in Anneliese!

The first picture was taken April 1st and the second one was taken April 6th.

Yes, she has really expanded. On our scales she has gained close to a pound.

Here is Anneliese on March 25th!

Here she is today!

Yes, she is a beautiful, chubby thing and I am thrilled to see how healthy she is.

What a joy my dogs are to me. I am truly blessed to have these wonderful creatures in my life!

19 Pounds

Our “little” Anneliese isn’t so little anymore! I have been watching my girl as her belly begins to get big and her sides are widening. She seems to be past her morning sickness and her appetite has picked up once again.

I brought her in today to our Veterinarian’s Office to get her weighed on their scales. That way we can keep an accurate account of her weight.

When she left for her afternoon delight in Germany, with Isegrim, she was just 16 pounds! Today she weighed in at a chubby 19! Beautiful!

She is 25-26 days away from her delivery date, and from now forward she should be gaining weight at a fairly consistent basis.

I leave tomorrow for my father’s memorial services in Connecticut, and when I get home I will begin to prepare the puppy room for it’s next litter of babies. I have a plastic kiddie pool to use as the whelping box, more towels than you could ever use, (ha to that! I use a ton and wash every day when the puppies are little), and a warming block if we need it.

I do want to get a couple of new doggy beds, but I refuse to pay full price on those. I good cheap-o bed that the puppies can destroy is good enough. I learned last time that once the puppies are about 8 weeks old their play time often resembles a demolition derby!

So life is good for Miss Anneliese and she is healthy and well. How does she look to you?

Beds, Laundry & A Growing Pup

Thursday was  a normal day. I changed the sheets on our bed, and worked doing the laundry. I actually got quite a bit accomplished in a short period of time. Including the washing of the sofa cover and Anneliese’s blanket. She is happily lying on it right now.

I also decided to make a chicken pot pie. From scratch. I’d never done that before and it was a bit challenging, but I somehow managed to make something that at least tasted good.

I brought Anneliese to the Vet’s office for her weigh in and since she became pregnant she has now gained 2.4 pounds. In the last week only .2 (two tenths of a pound). She is in splendid shape, for the shape she is in!

Melli asked yesterday to get a picture of Anneliese in the same position as the first. Okay, so here they are. The first picture was last October and the second is today.

March 26 006

The rain started around supper time, and now the dogs and Hubby are all lazing sleepily in front of the TV.

Sounds like a good idea!

Finally, Some Warmth & A Chubby Pooch!

Although the day began with low temperatures, it warmed up quickly and by noon we had 50 degrees (F) here. Yippee!!!

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and dogs had a good time running around in the slushy snow in the back yard.

Hubby continued to work pruning trees and I did my usual Wednesday drive to my Weight Watchers meeting, and then a little grocery shopping after.

Anneliese was happy to be outside, but also spent a lot of time sleeping today. She is getting bigger. Here are two pictures. The first was taken last Autumn before her pregnancy.

Oct 25b 009

The second was taken tonight as she stretched out on the sofa. I need to bring her in and get her weighed again tomorrow.

March 25 002

Over the next couple of weeks she will be getting pretty chubby! I can hardly wait! I’ll be posting more pictures as the time passes.

Tomorrow we are due for some rain, and hopefully that will help to melt the snow, just a little more.

I’d really like a nice grassy back yard to bring the puppies out in when they are old enough, so snow, snow, go away, puppies will come soon on a spring day!

Quiet Day

Sunday was a very strange day. It began with cool sunshine, and by noon the clouds had arrived and the wind had picked up. No sooner had we finished lunch and Hubby had gone outside to prune some trees when we looked across the lake and saw a wall of snow flurries headed our way.

March 22 005

I went to the back door and started to call the dogs, when the snow hit!  Hubby and I got them all in and then we started a roaring fire in the hearth. Anneliese came by me and she was shivering a little so I got her sweater out and put it on her. She is now lying in front of the fireplace in her sweater looking as cute as can be!

March 22 014

Albeit, very chubby! That sweater used to be a little big on her and now, well, she fills it out!

March 22 017

Doesn’t she look happy lying there?

Greta is sitting by my side and Arnie too. It’s a nice quiet Sunday.

Watching Anneliese Grow

It’s a fun thing to do. Each day now I sit and watch or stroke or belly rub Anneliese. She is changing so much. The last three days she hasn’t had a big appetite. She’s also been quieter and has napped quite a bit.

And she has been so much sweeter! Now I have to tell you that with Hubby and me she is very demonstrative. One of the reasons I kept her way back when the puppies were born, was because I felt a special bond with Anneliese.

Dec 10 018a Us 2

However, in the last week she will sit in my lap, snuggle my chin and just be the loveliest girl!

Greta was the same when she was pregnant. This sweetness has continued and I found that being a Mommy has made Greta an even better companion. Often this is the case.

Of course Arnie and Fritz are perfect just the way they are. Sweet, loving, wonderful boys!

Anneliese Is Pregnant!!!

Today was the day I took Anneliese in to the Veterinarian’s for her first pre-natal exam. She loved going for a ride, but was a little suspicious when we arrived.

March 20 001

She remained calm and was happy to see our Vet. Dr. Julie, and her technician, Ann. Both women were with me the day Dr. Chris delivered Greta’s babies two and a half years ago. So today was very exciting for us all.

Anneliese’s belly was palpitated, and gently rubbed and pressed until Dr. Julie pronounced that Anneliese is, indeed

pregnant!!!

March 20 002

She could find at least three little buds, but suspects more, as Anneliese has gained nearly 2 pounds!

March 20 005

Multiple births will do that to a girl!

Now we wait. Her due date is the 25th or 26th of April, but we will go in one week before her due date for an x-ray to determine how many babies she has inside!

Such good news!  I really needed that!
