April Fools Day 2014

I’m getting better using my left hand for mouse control. Oh, I still mess up from time to time, but this morning I wanted to make a new desk top picture for my laptop.

Savannah

I have to say working with the one hand was a challenge! But in the end I got this picture collage of Savannah put together.

It was also on Monday that Fickr/Yahoo implemented changes that caused chaos on my accounts as well as Hubby’s! (Was this their April Fools Joke?) I do not even want to tell you how long it took me to get things straightened out. And all with one hand splinted behind my back!

In fact I will admit to a bout of frustration where I accidentally knocked over a glass of juice, which fell into Greta’s dog bed! Thankfully, she wasn’t in it at the time. Oh well, it needed a washing anyway!

It is frustrating. Not having a functioning hand. I sure hope it gets better soon.

Day 1, 2014

My first day of 2014 was spent trying to organize travel plans. After an hour or so I stepped back (figuratively) and let it go. Everything will work out and be fine. No worries!

After lunch Hubby went out to chop ice on our steps and I stayed in and worked on laundry, and packing lists. I keep reminding myself that less is more, so I don’t pack too much!

Then as the sun set and the house began to cool, I built a fire in the fireplace and got it going. It’s currently 9 degrees (F) and dropping. The fire feels so good and the dackels just love to lie all stretched out in front of it.

I had Anneliese to the Vet yesterday and she has some bacterial skin infection on the lower part of her belly. She is now on medications and I have to bathe her every other day. Surprisingly, she is a lot better today!

I wanted to share this with you all. A week before Christmas I went down to see Mandy and while I was there I was showing Savannah Dackel Princess. Well, she saw her pictures in the side bar and kept pointing and getting all excited.

In the last month I just feel that Savannah really not only understands what you say, but works very hard at communicating back with you! Now that is exciting for me! She is just growing up so fast!

Our Christmas!

We got up and we let the dogs have their toy gifts. They were so happy with their chew toys and their balls.
I made bacon, eggs and German Stollen with coffee and juice. Then we cleaned up, and dressed and got ready for our day with Mandy, Matt and Savannah.
We arrived a little early, about 1:30, and my former husband and his family were still there. It was so nice to see them all.
Hubby brought the wrapped car to the house first thing and brought it into the living room and Savannah immediately opened it and squealed with delight! She immediately jumped into it and had to get rides!

We opened presents and I was so happy that somehow Savannah found this Oma Mug for me!

Mandy and I worked on appetizers and snacks, and then eventually dinner. Matt cooked Cowboy steaks for himself and Hubby (they are very tender rib eye steaks with the bone still on.) It was so tender and delicious! Amanda made jumbo shrimp for the two of us. Then we had mashed potatoes, mashed butternut squash and green beans. For dessert, my apple crisp with vanilla ice cream.

I snuggled with Savannah as the day wore on. There is nothing better in the entire world, then when your grandchild is in your arms!

We had coffee and then left there about 7:30. We drove home and all was well. The dogs were happy to see us and after we let them out and they played, they came in and at about 10:30 I went to bed. I felt so tired.

I must tell you this is one of the very best Christmas’ I have had ever!

I hope you all had a wonderful one too!

Girls Day

Friday I spent the day with my girls. It’s so much fun to see how much Savannah changes each time I see her. She is talking a lot more and at one point when I was helping her eat, I asked her if she was ready (for the next spoonful) and she looked right at me and said “Yes!”

I’m also thrilled because she is starting to know that my name is “Oma”! And she seems to enjoy saying it. She also loved the words, “Dadda”, “Mama”, “Nana”, and “No”. She cracks me up as she laughs a lot!

We listened to Michael Buble’s Christmas CD and danced with wild abandon! Then we looked at Mikhail Baryshnikov dancing in “The Nutcracker”. Savannah loved that too, and tried like anything to dance like the ballerinas!

We did a little birthday shopping at Macy’s. They were having great sales and I bought my girl (Mandy) some pretty new things! I totally love the new sweaters she got!

I managed to get back home shortly after sunset fed the dogs and I even made Hubby dinner! What a wife I am!

I hope today we can go out and finish our Christmas shopping. We’re due for an ice storm tonight and tomorrow and I want to get it all done today.

Visiting My Girls

On Friday I went down to see Mandy and Savannah. It was a cold and clear day when I left, and when I arrived I had a nice breakfast with the girls before we headed over to the Outlet Mall near Mandy’s home.

Nov. 08 047

The only problem I have with Outlet Malls is that they are outdoors. So one must dress for the cold weather, but also be prepared to remove the clothes once you’re inside and heating up fast!

Savannah got irritated. She wasn’t having the transitions well, and being trapped in the stroller was really making her cranky. We took turns walking her and running after her, but that makes shopping tough.

Eventually we gave up and stopped for take out food before going back to Mandy’s house.

We had lunch, gave Savannah a bath (which she just loved!)

and then once we got Savannah down for her nap, we sat talking. (That is macaroni & cheese on her nose and squash soup on her temple!)

I drove home mid afternoon, and the weather was wild! First sunshine, then rain, then sleet, then snow! It was amazing. I just took my time, stopping for gas ($3.13 a gallon!) and some groceries.

By the time I pulled in, it was just getting dark outside, and I was glad to be back. So were Hubby and the dogs, as I made dinner for them all.

My Bright Star, Savannah!

I spent Friday with my daughter, Mandy, my cousin, Janet and my granddaughter, Savannah Rose. She is growing so fast and we danced and sang and I even helped her with a bath!

Since her birth we have gone back and forth about what she would call me and today we decided. Savannah is going to call me “Oma”. This is German for Grandmother. Since I have plenty of German in my background, it is a perfect fit!

Here she is playing and talking in her bath.

The Dackels & Savannah

Friday was Dackel Shower Day! I got all three in with me and we all soaped up, rinsed off and then dried off. Last night in bed I was cuddled off to all three of then and I could smell “dogginess”. So I know that no matter what I did, Friday would be bath day for them.

Our shower is actually perfect for it. It’s a large walk in with a corner seat. So I got in with them and one by one, they got done.

Hubby was waiting out in the bathroom with towels and he took them as I got them done. He fluffed and dried and then closed them out of our bedroom.

It didn’t take long, and soon they were all fluffy and smelling sweet. Tomorrow we will strip their coats and get them looking like proper wire haired dackels once again.

I didn’t feel like cooking too much, and I did have a lot of left overs, so one by one I put them into a pot and for dinner we had beef stew.

Savannah has discovered the joys of painting! Mandy sent me two pictures today showing me how Savannah paints. They cracked me up! But I was also amazed at how fast her hair is growing!

She is a real talent! Yes?

I’ll be going down next week to see her and Mandy. Oh, how I have missed them. Last year, I went every other week to see them, but this year it has been very tough.

Fun With Savannah

Friday I spent my entire day with my granddaughter, Savannah Rose. She is a delight, and this grandmother had such a good time with her.

Sept. 13 13 012

It’s funny I worry at times she will not know me, but she always does, so I am thinking that I have a face that people don’t forget!

Sept. 13 13 003

Actually, at one point Savannah was playing quietly and I slipped into the bathroom and not two seconds went by before I heard her say loudly, “Hi”, “Hi”, “Hi”!!! As she looked for me.

I hollered back “Hi!” and she came running into the bathroom, and smiled at me and said quite happily, “Hi”!

We read books together, curled up on the sofa with the blanket, we danced  and we laughed…a lot!

She is talking pretty well now, but she finds Grandma hard to say. I am thinking that perhaps I will have her call me “Oma”. That’s German for Grandmother. I like it so much better than Nana, Mimi, and some of the other nicknames for grandmother.

Ah well, Savannah will call me whatever makes her happy!

My day with Savannah ended, and I drove to get gas cheaply ($3.47 a gallon), food for Fritz and a few groceries for us, then I zipped home and we had a pick up dinner.

The end to a perfect Friday!
