Computers

Saturday I woke to my laptop not connecting into my wireless system. Why was this? Seemed to me I recall that Microsoft has automatically updated me before, and kicked off something that shut off my wireless connection.

I worked on it for two hours before Hubby got up and wanted breakfast. So I stopped, cooked the meal, and all the while I was going over the connections in my head. Which, if you know me and how scatterbrained I am, is a real challenge!

We ate breakfast, and I was looking and looking at all the settings, and just as I finished my meal, I had a thought. Hmm.

So I put the laptop on my knees and went into my Network Connections and saw that a box was not checked. That box allowed me to select the wireless system to use!

Click! Yay!

And it worked! Hubby quickly told me to write down what I had done, so next time I will know. After all, this is one of those little glitches that Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 has and since I don’t see myself getting a new computer for some time (knock on wood), I need to be able to take care of these little problems myself!

Then my daughter sent me a text that she was still not able to use my pictures in a project she was working on. So I went online and I was finally able to unlock them for her.

Click! Yay!

So, I am feeling like a computer wanna be nerd. At least I was able to get these things done. I just keep telling myself that I can do it!

I know what it is…it’s watching all those episodes of “The Big Bang Theory”. The show about 4 geniuses! It’s rubbing off on me!

LOL!

Savannah Aged 5 Months

The best days of my life right now are the Fridays I go south to spend the day with Mandy and Savannah. I don’t even mind the driving! Or the getting up early to make the trip down and return before dark.

On Friday I woke at 6 AM. Brutal. I really dislike getting up so early, but then I think that I sometimes hear my grandmother laughing in the wind, as she used to tease me about sleeping until noon as a teen! I have not slept that late in 35 years, but since I have the four dogs, it is seldom that I can sleep past 8 o’clock!

Anyway, I got down there really early, and I didn’t want to wake Mandy if she and Savannah were asleep, so I sat in the car resetting my seat. I have one of those automatic seats which somehow got reset incorrectly when it was in the shop. I finally got it on my third attempt!

Then I got out and rang Mandy’s buzzer and then…there they were! My girls! Mandy and Savannah!

Nov 9 007

Savannah has discovered her tongue. She loves to stick it out and loves it when you do the same to her! Then she laughs and smiles and has a good old time!

Nov 9 005

We played at the apartment for a while before heading out to get a little shopping done. Savannah is already a great little shopper!

After lunch we went back to the apartment and Mandy was getting Savannah changed. That child just loves having those diapers changed. On top of that she is a real ham!

What a blessing and a joy she is in our lives!!!

1. One time, I threw caution to the wind, and rode my bicycle up to the Bourne Bridge with my cousin, Janet. We rode our ten speeds over the bridge and realized half way over how much the wind was blowing us around. We were so scared, but knew we needed to go back home, or risk telling our parents we were stuck on the other side. I don’t think they ever did find out.
2.Babies and their new parents is something that makes me smile.
3. Seven words I love: I love you, for always and forever!
4. Soon it will snow; that will make Hubby very happy.
5. I looked out the window today and saw ice falling. This scared me, as I had an important doctors appointment. My sweet Hubby drove me.
6. I have finally decided that life is never really what you think it will be, and that’s saying something!
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to an early bed time, tomorrow my plans include laundry and ironing and Sunday, I want to have a day of rest, sort of like the Lord. I feel i have been just as busy lately!

If tears could build a stairway,

And memories were a lane,

I would walk right up to Heaven

To bring you home again.

No farewell’s were spoken,

No time for goodbye,

You were gone before I knew it,

And only God knows why.

My heart still aches in sadness,

And secret tears will flow,

What is meant to me to lose you,

No one will ever know.

You can read all about Katie and what happened to her HERE. Today would have been her 34th birthday. It doesn’t matter how long it has been. You never forget, and the pain never really does go away.

Happy Birthday to my sweet Angel in Heaven!

Election Day

I was up at 6:30 AM on Tuesday. I jumped into my clothes, layering up fairly well, and drove quickly to our local Polling place. I got there, and the line went out the door and around the parking lot, with not one free space for a car! So, I drove a block away and parked my car there and walked back to the Community Center, clutching my coffee.

When I got back, the line had moved right along, and I was able to go right in, but not with my coffee cup! So I set it down out of sight (outside), and went in and voted! Yay, me!

I came out to find that in 23 degree (F) weather, coffee gets cold very fast! I was stuck with cold coffee.

I had volunteered to stand at the Polls and hold a sign in support for my friend, Jeanie. I was so cold, mostly my hands, despite the fact that I had two pairs of gloves on.

I will say that there were others present supporting their candidate, that tried to cause problems with my small support group. I simply referred them to the police and the County Commissioner. They had been the ones who gave us our spot. After her huffing and puffing, the police and Commissioner finally got her quieted down.

Then, my back up arrived! After taking a look at these two beauties, I think you will agree, that no one would think about bugging me! (lol!)

These two, were both sweet Great Danes!

And yes, that is me in my disguise! Big warm hat and sunglasses

Nov 6 001

They stayed by my side, all morning, despite the fact that it was so cold. Needless to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am a real dog lady!

Vote!

I’ve been planning a party to celebrate the day of my birth. I have a menu, will do most of the cooking the day before, and all I really need to do is clean house (why is it that houses get messy so easily?), and set everything up for a relaxed Buffet. I have a week to do this, and for once I’m not stressed about it at all!

You know why? Because only my nearest and dearest are coming. These are the people who love me, warts and all!

Savannah will coming up to the party. It’s the first time she will have come to the house. I sure hope the dackels will behave! If not, they go right into the laundry room!

The menu consists of many of my favorite things, but no turkey! Thanksgiving is le3ss than a week from my birthday, and it seems silly to cook one on Saturday and then another one on the following Thursday.

For now we are well stocked, and when I go to Mandy’s house on Friday, we will shop for the party plates, napkins, etc.

Remember, all my fellow Americans. Get out and vote today! I will be manning the Polls in my town, doing my civic duty. Join me, by doing yours!

What I Did This Past Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

This past weekend found me trying desperately to catch up on the lost hour. Now why is this a lost hour, when we have actually turned our clocks back an hour? Well, unlike most people who gained an hour, I, by virtue of having dogs that cannot tell time, woke me up at their usual 8 AM, but which is now, in fact 7 AM!

I even kept the dogs up late last night, walked them late, all in hopes that I could reset their inner clocks. But I simply give up! It happens every year and there isn’t much I can do about it.

Laundry was done, our kitchen and bathrooms were washed, and I even had a chance to read the Sunday paper. Something that I seldom get to do.

I’m also reading a book on my Kindle. The Descendents. What a well written book, and a compelling story. I think as one grows older our experiences grow (hopefully) and so we can relate to books and stories in new ways!

The week ahead is a busy one, but at the end is a visit with Mandy and Savannah! Yay!!!

Courageous

I sat down after lunch for a little tea break. A movie was on called “Courageous”. I remember a year ago when it was released. I had wanted to see it, as it’s premise felt oddly similar to events in my own life.

Since there was literally nothing on the TV to watch (which is also quite strange due to the fact that we have close to 200 stations to chose from), I settled in to watch it.

The movie enters into the lives of 4 policemen and one hard working Latino man named Javier, in a small Georgia town. They are all doing their best to get through the days. Then Javier loses his job. He is despondent. He asks God for help.

That’s how he meets the four police officers, and they all become friends. Tragedy strikes the group, and they all reach out to God for help.

This movie was well acted, and although it was slow at times, it was building the relationships of the five families. Rent it on Netflix or watch it on Starz this month, Here is a brief look at the movie.

Oh yeah, and I hope everyone in the USA remembered to set their clocks back an hour last night. Yes, it’s that time of the year!

Lists & Laundry

On Friday I found myself absorbed in details. I was making lists, and figuring out when and where things would need to be done, as well as get my heart monitor back to the company who tested me.

And now the wait.

I think I have mentioned that I do not wait well. I called my doctor today to see if they had gotten the results. They had, but he wasn’t in, and there was no way I was going to get the results before my appointment on Thursday, next week.

Despite my list making, I found myself unproductive once again. I know what I need to be doing, but seem to have problems actually starting the projects!

Saturday I will start the projects. There is laundry to do, floors to wash, cabinets to clean, and beds to change.

Yeah, I sort of let the whole house cleaning thing get away from me. I know. Bad me! I do promise that I will get at least half the things done on my list, plus cook Hubby three fabulous meals!

And I will try not to think about all the tests!

2. I always feel a little strange when the moon is full.
3. When we were kids we danced in the sunshine and the moon light. We never allowed ourselves to feel silly. We lived for the moment.
4. Chestnut stuffing is the best!
5. Underneath it all my heart is full of love.
6. Oh! And thanks for reading my blog for all this time! I love writing it, and sharing my life.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to relaxing without the heart monitor on. I mailed that back today, tomorrow my plans include ironing and laundry, not a favorite of mine and Sunday, I want to simply chill out. I’ve been far too busy lately!
