Thursday Thirteen

Nov 24 015

Today’s Thursday Thirteen, will be things I love about cruising.

First to get you into the mood, this classic song!

  1. Once I step on board the ship, I become a Pampered Princess! No dogs to walk!
  2. Each morning when I wake, there is coffee at my door.
  3. As I go through my day, people smile at me, and offer coffee, tea, or anything else my heart desires.
  4. I love having tea each afternoon. The servers all wear white gloves and it reminds me of days gone by with my grandmother.
  5. I love the sun. Even though I have to wear a ton of sunscreen and a hat. It’s okay.
  6. Swimming. I love the big pools. It’s so soothing.
  7. The movies on the Jumbo-tron screens! Fun! Movies under the stars.
  8. Someone to cook my breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  9. And then to clean it all up!
  10. Someone makes my bed too, and brings me clean towels several times a day!
  11. Sitting out on my own balcony sipping a cool beverage!
  12. The shore tours we take. Those are so interesting.
  13. But best of all, I love cruising with Hubby. He makes it all wonderful and special!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What are three words you would use to describe your 2011?

Happy, Fruitful, Loving.

2. Do you like shrimp? What’s your favorite way to have it prepared?

I love shrimp. I don’t think I really have a favorite way to eat it, but I do know that Shrimp Fra Diavolo and I do not agree, but almost any other way is terrific!

3. Is your house de-Christmased? If so when did you tackle that job? If not, when will the decorations come down?

Not yet, but by the end of the week, I will have taken it all down. My tree is a big job. Since I use an artificial tree, I have to take it down, section by section. First the tinsel and garlands, (I reuse tinsel), then the ornaments, then the lights then the sections of the tree. It’s a big job!

4. Do you like to watch scary movies?

Nope, not at all. Real life is scary enough!

5. ice skating~sledding~skiing~snowboarding~of the four listed which wintertime activity do you most enjoy?

I have enjoyed all but snowboarding, in my life. At different times, of course. I skated and sledded as a child, and now snow ski.

6. Did you have a childhood hideout? Describe it.

Up until I turned 10, I could hide in the upper branches of a tree in our yard. I often hid there to escape. We moved and after that I would take off to my Grandma’s house. I always felt safe hiding there.

7. What’s a place or space that motivates you?

The kitchen. I love cooking and trying new things, so when I am in there, I simply love it! Just call me Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray or even…Julia Child!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Well, the New Year has begun and now I need to pack away the Christmas things, and attack my home with my resolution to clean and organize! Since the house has swallowed a few things, I am determined to get it all organized and ‘find’ these things. After all, if I don’t, no one else will.

This & That

Welcome to the year 2012. I hear today that this is the Year of the Dragon, which means that it is a lucky year!

I took the candles out of my windows today, but left up my Christmas trees. (I have two. A big one and a small one with only dackel ornaments.) After taking care of the candles, I just felt the wind go out of my sails, so I sat down and reminded myself that I didn’t have to get it all done in one day.

Meanwhile, I took the dackels for walks around the yard. This is not only my ‘new’ exercise, but a way to keep them from becoming Eagle food! It seems 2 Eagles have now moved into the neighborhood. I have not found a nest, but Eagles have been known to grab cats and small dogs for a quick snack! So until we haven’t seen them for a while, I’ll be walking the dackels while they tend to their business.

I started back on my Weight Watchers plan. I’ve been weighing and measuring all my food, as well as trying to make better choices! I have two months to get back in shape and ready for the trip! I sure want to look good for Hubby in my bathing suit! I would also like to get my legs in shape for all the walking and swimming I plan to do. (We won’t even mention the eating!)

We have no snow here at my house. We’ve had warm temperatures and rain! Not conducive to snow making. Poor Hubby. He really wants to get out there and ski!

I guess I’m happy any way it turns out. If we can ski, great. If not, well, then I’ll just have to work harder to get in shape.

So what are your resolutions this year? Getting in shape? Stopping smoking? (Which was the number 1 resolution this year.)

Have a great Tuesday, Everyone!!!

What I Did Last Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

The weekend was really more of the end of the holiday season. Hubby and I hit a few sales, but mostly we were very quiet and at home. I likes this, as it seems that Christmas made me feel a tad on the tired side this year. Getting old? Probably, although I admit to enjoying every minute of Christmas with my family.

Saturday, New Years Eve, Hubby asked me if I wanted to go to the movies. Sure. I didn’t want to go see anything to heavy, or gory, or scary, so we chose to go see “We Bought A Zoo”. What a splendid family movie. I have linked to the movie trailer, so you can see a little bit of the story. It’s a true story, which makes it all the more interesting to me. And little Maggie Elizabeth Jones just stole my heart!

My only gripe, was that in this packed movie theater, were parents who brought their sick children to the movie. People, I beg you, if your kids are sick, don’t take them out! Let them rest at home watching videos.

Hubby and I came home after that and turned all the Christmas lights on. I love the lights, and I almost hate to taken them down, but it is time, and I plan to get them all put away by the end of the week.

We watched several DVD movies that we’d gotten during the holiday season. Everything from classics like “The Birdman of Alcatraz” to “Live Free or Die Hard”. Gotta say, I just love a good Bruce Willis action flick!

New Years Eve we dined on appetizers. I had all this food in the fridge and I portioned it down to appetizer form and we noshed on that all evening long. That was perfect, as I had no big meal to make or clean up!

I spent part of New Years Day rereading Dackel Princess. I don’t often do this, but today I did. It was fun top see what I was thinking and doing so long ago. Especially during our cruises. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we’re going on another one, and I wanted to “remember” some of my thoughts and feelings. Truly, a cruise is the only time I really have a vacation as Hubby and the pups keep me on my toes.

Happy New Year!!!

Happy-New-Year-2012

Auld Lang Syne

Should old acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!

The new year brings us hope for peace,
A new day for mankind,
Where we can all live hand in hand
And leave all hate behind.

For auld lang syne, my dear.
For auld lang syne.
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne.

When dreams they seem so far away,
Your soul can feel so low.
But love is never far away;
Your heart won’t be alone.

Let’s make a world where people care,
A world that knows no fear,
Where we can open up our hearts
And hold each other dear.

Our children grow, they need to know
The Future’s theirs to hold.
If we can teach them how to love
Then the world can carry on.

For auld lang syne, my dear.
For auld lang syne.
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne.

Happy 2012 to one and all.

Oh, Friday!

Friday I went to get my hair done. I was a nervous wreck! Not about getting my hair done, but because it had started to snow. Slowly, at first and then as the morning went on, the snow fell at a slightly alarming rate! I do not like to drive in snow or ice. Yes, I am a real chicken, which I think, makes me a smart driver…don’t go out if you do not have to, but today was my hair stylist appointment! Short of a hurricane blowing in, I wasn’t about to miss this.

The roads were pretty slippery on the way over to Margarita’s Salon, but I stuck the Jeep in 4-wheel drive and drove slowly. I made it in plenty of time, and even had a chance to eat lunch before she started to work on me.

It’s wild, you know, my hair had grown a full half an inch in 5 weeks! I was amazed. I thought perhaps I would just have my locks dipped into the fountain of youth, and not trimmed, but after speaking with the ladies in the salon I decided to go for it and continue flirting with the slightly shorter hair style.

By the time we finished, the salting trucks had run down the road and the surface was nice and clear. I spoke with Hubby who told me he’d not gone to get the mail after he skied, so I stopped and picked it up. Nothing earth moving, mostly just ads.

Then I came home and Hubby needed the magnifier and I could not find it. I’d moved everything during Christmas and since I still have all my decorations out, I could not find it. After nearly an hour I gave up and went out to our camper and got the second one. I know Hubby isn’t happy, but I also know I will find the other one when I put everything away and get things back in order.

However, it always upsets me when I can’t find things. So another resolution is to ORGANIZE!!!!! Which is tough, when you are basically not an organized person!

Oh well, there is much about me that is great! The Lord must have felt I could get by without the organization gene!

Friday Fill-Ins

Thursday Thirteen

This is the New Year addition where I tell you all the things I am hoping to accomplish. In recent years I have been pretty successful, and I am hoping that 2012 will continue along those lines. So, here we go.

  1. I need to get back on track with Weight Watchers and diligently journal what foods I am eating and how much.
  2. Move more, We have been deluged with rain for most of November and December, and my little ski area has only opened about 2 days. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will get some snow and I can ski.
  3. Of course we do have a stationary bike in the basement and a stair stepper, so on those icy days, I can go down there, and work out a little.
  4. I’ve been thinking of doing Yoga too. I’ve heard it is great for arthritis.
  5. I’d like to grow my hair back out some. People were kind when I got it cut, but after the novelty wore off and it started to grow, people told me how nice it looks…longer!
  6. I would like to concentrate on one closet a month. I want to empty it, organize and then put things away.
  7. I plan to put the Christmas decorations away in well marked boxes that have been organized. I don’t want to be missing my tree topper next year.
  8. I would like to go for a walk every day. Be it short or long. A walk.
  9. I would like to read one book per month. This means not messing around on the computer as much in the evenings.
  10. I would like to spend time with Mandy and the baby and share in her happiness!
  11. I cannot believe I will be a Grammy in June!!!
  12. I want to see a few movies, maybe one per month in the theaters. (Should there be any good ones come out.)
  13. Last but not least, I want to really enjoy my upcoming vacation with Hubby. We’re planning some really exciting things, like my first swim with Dolphins!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Share something you loved about your Christmas Day.

As the snow gently fell, Hubby and I had a typical German breakfast. We exchanged a few gifts and later on enjoyed Prime Rib! Total yumminess!!!

Dec 25 014

2. You get to put five items in a time capsule to be opened in 100 years, what items would you choose and why?

1. The complete DVD  series of Julia Child “The French Chef”, as well as the DVD “Julie and Julia”.

french chef

2. A copy of “9/11” The film is the “accidental documentary” made by French brothers and film makers, Gedeon and Jules Naudet.

3. Pictures of my daughter and grandchild. My gifts to the world!

4. The Harry Potter series of books and films.

5. The Bible.

3. What do you like on a cracker?

Oh, goodness, almost anything! I guess, mostly cheese.

4. Do you make resolutions at the start of a new year? How’d that work out for you this past year?

Four years ago, I made a resolution to go to Weight Watchers and lose weight. This year, I want to step up my program with them and drop those ten pounds that have crept on.

5. What’s a song or song lyric you’ll associate with 2011?

I am old, therefore, I think of things that were popular in 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s as being contemporary! Yes, I am an oldies girl! But I like Taylor Swift and “Life is a Fairytale”!

Time slows down whenever you’re around
Yeah yeah

But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there

It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

6. How will you ring in the new year?

Champagne, canapes, and pajamas!

7. What is something you look forward to in 2012?

My first grandchild! Oh, how much I am looking forward to that precious new life coming into the world!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

As the days of 2011 wind down, I look back to the many things in the year, that I am thankful for. I have come to understand, that in this life, the people you love, good health and a happy home is what are really important.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!!

Exhaustion

Saturday, Sunday and Monday were big days for me cooking. I started early each day and went until late at night. So today, when the meals were over, I just started to collapse.

Okay I will tell you a little about today, before I fall asleep. Mandy and Matt, and Janet and Dave came. Mandy is looking and feeling really good. I had a nice assortment of appetizers on the breakfast counter. Meatballs, cheeses, hot artichoke dip, and chips. Yummy!

We exchanged gifts and that was so much fun! Mandy and I had exchanged gifts a week ago, but we still had little gifts for each other like ornaments and I bought her a pair of silver heart earrings.

Janet and Dave got me several gifts that I really love. My favorite? The best, honestly? An apron! I know, you are all laughing. But I love aprons and I use them all the time.

Join me

I made a complete Thanksgiving Turkey, and we all talked about how our favorite meal is a Thanksgiving one!! It really was a good one!

Of course, Fritz really wanted to help.

Dessert was a special item called plum pudding! Thanks Mom for making it!!!

So now I want to get my pajamas on, and curl up and then get off to bed. I am one totally exhausted girl. I promise, once I can relax from the last few days, I write more in depth!
