Odds & Ends On A Monday

Today I got out the suitcases and told Hubby that we just HAD TO start packing. I needed to know if clothes needed to be cleaned, if we had enough underwear, socks and bathing suits. Most of all I needed to know if we were going to have enough room in our suitcases for everything.

Probably not.

I think I will have to get a duffel bag out to carry our shoes and sneakers. After all, now that you have to check your shampoo, hair spray and other stuff like that, I have used up a lot of that room in the checked bag.

We made great progress today and I am so happy that Hubby got his stuff out and planned what he will wear. What a help.

It was a really pretty day here today and Hubby took some time to practice with the camera. Here is one shot he took from out front yard.

Then I came home from doing my errands and noticed the two pups taking a sunbath on the sofa. They both looked so cute that I grabbed the camera and took these two shots.

It’s just a week now and we will be off. Our house sitter is all set to move in and Emily and the neighbors are all set to back her up!

I am so excited!!!

Counting Down

A week from today we leave for our vacation trip to The Panama Canal. I hosted a dinner for all my dog sitters tonight, making manicotti, salad, garlic bread and apple crisp. All low sugar and low salt. And it tasted good! Yippee!!

So now we start the tough part. The thinking and pulling out and folding of the clothes we will pack for this trip. Shoes, bathing suits and rain gear as well. I’ve been trying to get Hubby to commit to making a good list with me, but he is a “last minute packer” and I just know I will need to get after him in order to get his clothes out.

I know pretty much what I want to bring, it’s just a matter of getting it out and getting it folded up. It’s quite a production when you are going to be gone for this long.

I plan to tan as much as I can during the week and on Friday I have scheduled a day of beauty. Hair and nails and hopefully when I get done, I won’t look half bad!

Emily was trying to reassure me today that she will take good care of the dogs and that she will make sure they aren’t too lonely while we are gone. I know she will, but I will miss them a lot, I just know.

The clock is ticking now and I really need to kick my game plan for the trip into gear.

Meet Cheech!

My sister sent me my birthday gift a little early. It came in a large heavy box and I couldn’t imagine what she had found. I opened it up and found this inside! (turn up your computer’s speakers)

I adore this “toy”! I keep it on the shelf between my kitchen and the family room and every time I walk by I hit the ear and turn “Cheech” (that’s what I call him) on and let him sing his little song.

I called Mel today to tell her just how much this gift has tickled me. After all, how often, as adults, do we get a child’s toy that touches a place in our inner child in such a sweet and profound way?

So thank you, dearest sister! I love you!!!

PS: Also Happy birthday to my blog friend and fellow Scorpio, Renny!!! Go on over and wish him a Happy Birthday!!!

November Skies

Yes, another season is upon us. I could tell that it was so, the moment I woke up this morning. The sky was that dark gray that seems to creep in, in November. The air felt dry and cool, and the leaves, the ones that remain on the trees, still shock the senses as they contrast against the morning sky.

It’s on mornings like this that I feel lazy. Part of me just wants to stare out the window and contemplate the falling leaves and the passage of another season in the year.

I ran out to get the mail at noontime, and during my travels I saw a flock of wild turkeys! Of course I had no camera, not even my cell phone! Rats! But I stopped and watched them for a moment and thought, “Yep, it’s November. The Turkeys are here”.

I returned from getting our mail and made lunch, and just as I sat down to eat I saw the turkeys coming down the hill into my back yard! Quietly and slowly, so as not to wake the dogs, I got my camera and headed out to the back yard through our guest room.

I think they came to see me. They knew just how much I wanted a good picture of them. They stayed in the yard for about half an hour and then moved back up the hill and into the woods.

Perhaps this is another reason I love living where I do. I truly enjoy certain types of wild beasts when they roam into our yard. Turkeys, birds, chipmunks, squirrels are all okay.

The skunks, moose, deer, bears and porcupines can just keep on going down the road!

Why I Love Living In My Town

1. I can walk down the street and people smile and say, hello!
2. People care about each other.
3. Our town cares about how the Main Street area looks and keeps the gardens beautiful.
4. The local officials know you and smile when you pay your taxes, or register your car or register your dogs.
5. People know I breed dogs and are always happy to see me with a puppy or with Greta, and they always ask about how they are.
6. The area we live in is beautiful with many lakes and mountains. In fact we live very close to where “On Golden Pond” was filmed.
7. Our parks allow both kids and dogs to roam and run free.
8. We still have Halloween Parades, Thanksgiving meals and Christmas Parties for our kids.
9. We still have good old fashioned neighborhoods.
10. Many of us mentor the youngsters in our neighborhoods.
11. I love the way the town decorates for Christmas and the 4th of July and even Halloween!
12. I love the seasons here. All of them. Even the winter when it snows!
13. I love where I live because it’s where Hubby, Fritz, Greta, Arnie and Anneliese all live!

My Meltdown

Yesterday it was Hubby. Today it was me.

All was going well. The day dawned bright and the cool crisp Autumn air felt wonderful on my skin as I walked the pups in the yard. Yes, it was going to be a beautiful day.

We shopped, I found a great watch, got all the dog food that we will need for the next month, picked up the mail and even grabbed a bite to eat.

Yes, the day was going along so well.

I was starting to cook dinner, when Hubby mentioned that his mail program wasn’t working. I went over and tried to fix it quickly, but my usual computer skills failed me. In frustration I called our service provider, who walked me through fixing Hubby’s machine.

Great!

Then I hung up the phone, and while I was trying to fix dinner, I went to fix my own machine and I couldn’t do it. I knew I should be able to, after all, I had just done it on Hubby’s machine, but it looked different!

I went back and forth between the kitchen and the family room trying to fix my computer, with the clock ticking down towards the time when my dinner would be done.

The tension mounted and I thought I would go absolutely crazy, and then I saw it. The little menu that would lead me to salvation!

With three minutes and 29 seconds to go, until my dinner timer went off, I had fixed my computer problem and gotten my email up and running again!

Somehow, tonight’s Lobster and corn on the cob tasted even better!

What Did You Do With My Hearing Aids?

I was having a fairly easy going day today. I’d straightened out my closet, brought some things into the formal dining room to put in the big suitcase we will use on our trip, and even unpacked our ski parkas and hung them up in anticipation of a good season once we return from our trip.

I remembered that Hubby had a meeting to go to, and I reminded him. He dashed into the house and changed his clothes, shaved and began pacing around. Where did he leave his hearing aid? He knew I had it in my big purse. I looked and no, it wasn’t in there.

I looked in my closet. I looked in his closet. I looked in his dresser, his bedside table, the coffee table. My heart sank. Those things are expensive!

He had to leave, and he left me to “find” them.

Oh, great. No stress there!

Off he went. I looked everywhere again, twice, three times. I tried to remember the last time that he’d actually used them. (He hasn’t adjusted to all the noise yet.)

My heart was racing and I started to sweat. As if there wasn’t enough stress at the moment, Arnie started dancing around because he had to go out to do his business.

Then it hit me. I’m not sure why, (Perhaps I have a Fairy God Mother after all!) but I went back into his closet and went to his suit jacket. I reached into the pocket and there it was,n the case holding his hearing aids! Joy filled my heart. Blessed relief! Then I got a little angry and stood in the middle of the floor and screamed!

Hubby will be home in an hour or so and then I plan to make him beg for my forgiveness! If he is very sweet, I shall consider it!

PS: Hubby said it was a great meeting. He couldn’t hear a thing!
