The Friday Five

The Friday Five

Well folks, here we are. It’s the last weekend in May. This year is simply flying by me! So without further adeau, here are the five things I am thinking about this week.

  1. Greta has not been feeling well this week. This makes me nervous and upset, as I just adore this old flea bag, and I worry that at fourteen her life is drawing to a close. (Tears!)
  2. Anneliese leapt off of the chair and yelped upon landing. I was worried she had done something to her back, but she is just fine today!
  3. I love our 14 year old car, which has just over 100,000 miles on it. We have also kept her garaged in the winter and well cared for over all. Well, today we had to have our first major overhaul in order to pass the State Inspection. I was dying when the bill was presented. But then I thought about it. If you divided today’s bill over the last 14 years, we have spent only $113.50 each year of ownership. Now that isn’t really bad.
  4. I go in tomorrow for a couple of medical tests. Nothing major, just the usual. I am just so doctor shy since last year when I got the Staph infection. I will be happy when this is done and I don’t have to go to see my doctor again for another year.
  5. No plans for this weekend. Savannah’s party has been moved to next weekend, so Jack and I will hang out and stare at each other! No, really. We will probably try to cook something festive. Maybe I’ll make some babybacks.

Have a blessed Memorial Day Weeeknd, and remember all those who died so that we might live in freedom. God Bless the men and women who have served this country.

Thursday found me once again, cooking up a big meal. Pulled Pork. And when I wasn’t working on that, I was stripping dackel coats and doing a little trimming.

I also picked up my Family Mother’s Ring. It was my Mom’s Mother’s Ring, and after she passed I wore it a lot. Then I noticed that The May for my brother was now also for my granddaughter, Savannah. The November stone for me could also be for my younger daughter, Katie, who was born in November. I just didn’t have Quinn’s birthstone or Mandy’s. So I took the ring in and had it adjusted.

  1. I had Quinn’s stone (Aquamarine) placed first on the left.
  2. Then the next Savannah’s and my brother, Dickie’s stone (Emerald).
  3. In the center, my sister, Melodie, (Ruby).
  4. Then the stone for Katie and me (Topaz).
  5. Then to the far right Mandy’s birthstone (Turquoise).

I am just thrilled with this ring and just love how beautifully it sits on my finger. Reminding me of all that I love. This truly is a great Friday Five!

Our first week of real Spring weather has now gone by us. Finally! Spring! We have had perfect temperatures of 75-80 degrees each day, with bright sunshine and little wind.

April 24 10 044

The Forsythia is blossoming and the fruit trees are also starting to flower! Perfect. Now here are 5 things from my week to share with you.

  1. I love the company, “Chewy”! I’ve been ordering the dogs food from them now for about ten months, and they are prompt, their prices are good, and they even have a dog food that is 100% Gluten Free for Lili, who really has a problem with Gluten of any kind. They also carry a tinned food for Arnie, who is the pickiest eater ever. I guess he takes after his Daddy Bernie, who was also a finicky eater.
  2. I watched the last Jason Bourne movie today, called “Jason Bourne”. It got pretty bad reviews when it came out a couple of years ago, so I hadn’t gone to see it in the theaters. I did, however, like the other movies, so when I got home today after getting my hair done, I sat down and watched it. Actually, it wasn’t too bad. It was entertaining and held my interest. It’s not Oscar worthy, but it was entertaining.
  3. As our temperatures rise, and the weekends get closer, so does the traffic. It’s funny. I grew up in Falmouth on Cape Cod, and that was a real tourist destination. Now I live in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, which is also a  prime tourist destination.
  4. I was driving home from grocery shopping yesterday and a song came on that reminded me of my old White German Shepherd, Fritz.

    Fritz

    Fritz

He’s been gone for over four years, and yet, there I was in the car, listening to this song, thinking of him, with tears streaming down my face. I’ve always known that Fritz was a special boy, but it hit me yesterday, Fritz is probably the best and sweetest dog I have ever had. And I still miss him!

  5. I’m off to Savannah’s recital tomorrow. I try to make everything she does, or any event she is in. Not only do I want her to know how much I love her, but I want her to always know that I support everything she does. The same will be true for my darling Quinn. He’s just a little young to have Karate competitions just yet!

PS: I have a new comment section installed. Please, everyone, leave a comment so we can see how it is working! Thanks!

The Friday Five

The Friday Five

Here we are at the very end of April! The year seems to be rushing by, although a neighborhood child told me that this school year was soooooo long! It made me laugh to recall how I’d felt the same in my youth when every day seemed like an eternity!

As the week ends and I look forward to my girls weekend on the Cape (Cape Cod), here are the things that have been on my mind.

  1. I’ve done all the laundry and packed my suitcase for the trip. I don’t have to worry about Jack running out of clothes, or having to do a lot of laundry when I get back.
  2. Besides packing my clothes, I have packed a bag of teas, and goodies to have in our room. The room has a coffee maker, that you can heat water in for tea. Perfect. I am a big herbal tea drinker.
  3. I did a thorough cleaning of the Highlander. After a long, cold, snowy, wet, winter the inside and outside of the car were a mess. I brought down the carpet cleaner, I’ve written about before, and used the upholstery attachment on the seats and rugs.  It came out so well. I must interject here, anyone that does detail work like this on your car is worth their weight in gold. I spent an entire afternoon doing this! But it is so worth it!
  4. Tonight I cook the last meal for a few days! I am really looking forward to the time off!
  5. I bought these wild napkins. Now I didn’t know exactly how wild until I opened the package. You see, I love a bargain, and these were 700 napkins for $2.50! But when I opened them I realized they are full of goofy printed napkins. Oh well, it’s an adventure, right? Here is one of a dachshund.

The Friday Five

The Friday Five

Well, here we are. Another week has gone by and Friday is upon us! I don’t know about you, but this week flew by for me! Perhaps because I was so busy, having accomplished a lot of Spring Cleaning (even if Spring refuses to arrive!), and a trip to Portsmouth as well. Yes, it’s a long drive down and back, but I just love Portsmouth, NH!

It is once again snowing, and as I count down the hours to the end of my week, here are 5 things that have been on my mind.

  1. Sunday we had three inches of heavy, slushy snow, that sort of turned to ice. What a mess! The good thing about Springtime snow (and I use the term Springtime loosely), is that it melts fairly quickly. Such was the case, but not until after my beautiful white shepherd, Lili became a massive muddy mess!
  2. The first tick of the season made its way into our house. It was just a little before their first dose of flea and tick medication (May 1st) so I decided to start the medication early and will do flea and tick medications on the 18th of each month.
  3. I had gotten a ham a week ago and got it out only to discover it was a spiral cut ham. Ugh! I cooked it as best I could and it came out terrible. So dry. I know a lot of people like them, but this was too lean and being pre-sliced just worked against it. No more pre-sliced hams for me.
  4. Thursday found me roasting eggplant for my lunch. I love eggplant, and roasting it up for lunch, is one of my favorite things to do.
  5. One more week and I will be going to Cape Cod with my cousin, Janet and my sister, Melodie. I love our trips to Falmouth and our walks down Memory lane. This time we decided to go to two different restaurants. Please say a little prayer for good weather while we are there.

The Friday Five

Another week has come and gone and today will find me getting ready for my overnight with the kids. I am so excited to have some real quality play time with them as well as snuggles and smiles!

So as the week ends, here are the five things I am thinking about.

  1. Today I am making mini sized blueberry muffins to bring down for the kids. I have the cutest kid size muffin pan to make them!
  2. Jack hasn’t been feeling too well the last few days, so I want to go through the fridge and make sure he has a few things to eat while I am gone.
  3. I’m still having trouble with the comment section of the blog. It looks like I will have to contact GoDaddy again later today and see if I can get this working. It is a real irritant. My cousin Janet and her husband think I have blocked them from commenting, 😉 which is not the case, it’s just the stupid GoDaddy Server! I will keep you all posted!
  4. Still crocheting up a storm, and will bring that with me overnight on Saturday. Once the kids are settled it gives me a couple of hours to work on the afghan.
  5. Still no word from my doctor regarding the biopsy. I will feel so much better when it comes back and it is negative.

The Friday Five +One

The Friday Five

Another week has flown by. I remember being a kid and thinking that each day seemed so long, and the summers went by so slowly, and I remember feeling like I would never grow up! And here I am racing towards 60, and I look back and wonder where the heck the time has gone!

But for this week, here’s what’s been happening in my little corner of the world!

1. I saw my dentist at the beginning of the week. There is nothing major, but I do need some repair work done to the lower small teeth in the front. No cavities, but I’ve worn away the tooth edges on top of three teeth and they’ve been sensitive. So, the dentist will fill the tops of each of them and I should then be a lot more comfortable!

2. I’ve been watching my two favorite shows. Homeland and Roseanne. Homeland has really gone into some dark areas this year and although I have always loved Carrie, right now I do not understand her at all. I am enjoying the Roseanne reboot. Once again, Roseanne seems to be catching what it is like to be in the middle class, struggling for the very bread of life. But she also does this by showing a fierce loyalty towards your family. Your family may drive you insane, but in your mind and heart, you would throw yourself under a bus for them!

27389977618_59514e9a24_b

3. I started my low fat, low cholesterol diet. I’ve been eating oatmeal each day, and berries, and lots of vegetables. Last night I cooked up chicken for dinner, with carrots and I think the change will also help get my weight on a tightly controlled scale. I’ve got to stop watching the Pioneer Woman, as she cooks almost everything with heaps of butter, tons of buttermilk, and so much of it is deep fried! I love it, but apparently it doesn’t love my arteries!

4. My hair stylist had a cancellation yesterday and she had me in. My hair had grown an entire inch in 5 weeks! We were talking and she asked how I’d done this? Well, better diet, and I am taking Biotin each day. I noticed that my hair grows faster, thicker and my nails also grow longer and stronger. It’s the Biotin, I tell you!

5. Lastly, I am off to babysit the kids next Saturday so that their Mommy and Daddy get to have some grown-up time. My plans are simple. I plan to get down on the floor, play Barbie Dolls, Lego’s, Dress-up, and anything else that those two beautiful babes want to play. I want to read books, and cook them their favorite foods and just plain have fun.

My Plus One this week, is the news that on Thursday I had another lesion removed. This one from my chest wall. It was quick and with the help of Novocain, mostly painless. I will get the results next week sometime. A few years ago, a Psychic told me that I would never again have cancer. So, I am hoping she is correct on that and that this is nothing at all to be worried about.

Have an awesome weekend everyone!!!

The Friday Five

The Friday Five

The week has flown by. I’ve actually accomplished so much, and I have been loyal to exercising every day. For the first time in well over a year I am feeling strong, healthy and well! So here are this week’s Friday Five.

  1. As mentioned above, I am exercising. A year ago after the infection, I was so weak that I could not walk more than a few steps in my driveway. I would come in and fall asleep. Now we are walking the full length of our driveway, and the full length of our street, and back again! All the while trying to keep up with Lili and Arnie!
  2. Today is bed changing day, laundry and I may even pull out the vacuum, (the big one!) and do the rugs and under the sofa, bed and mudroom. Or maybe not! (LOL)
  3. Wednesday we went grocery shopping for the holiday. Everything was on sale. We bought a small ham, a small boneless leg of lamb, and Prime Rib. All were under $5.99 a pound! In any case. I figured I would make the Ham on Sunday for Easter for Jack and me. However, at breakfast, Jack said that of the three he would rather have the Prime Rib for Easter.  No problem. Just a slight meal shift.
  4. Arnie suddenly became very picky about eating his food. Or should I say, he simply stopped eating. So we kept trying different foods until we found one with a good reputation and one he would eat. No small feat! It was pricey in the stores, but I checked with “CHEWY” and it was nearly half!  Arnie is now a very happy boy!
  5. As my week comes to an end, I am happy and content with the world around me. I am thankful for all the blessings in my life.

Happy Easter!

The Friday Five

This week seemed to go rather slowly for me. I’m not sure why, I was actually pretty busy around the house, but I remember on Wednesday feeling like the week would never end!

It was a great week, and all was going well until Thursday. Then it went down hill for about three hours. Luckily, the craziness did not last, and by the time I sat down on Thursday night to write this, life had resumed at a happy, merry pace.

I can look back and laugh now, so when you read the list below, just laugh. It was a pain at the time, but I lived through it!

Now here we go!

  1. It started when we decided to go out for lunch at a local Chinese restaurant near our home. We’ve eaten there for ten years and have never had a bad meal. They usually have the best tea, and I always order Sesame Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables. I order that every time I go and I love it.
  2. Today when they placed the plate of food in front of me, I knew the Shrimp was bad. I could smell it! I thought I was imagining it, so I took one very small bite, and then spit it into my napkin. (In a very ladylike way!) No, it was spoilt!
  3. I called the waitress over and quietly explained to her what was happening. She didn’t know what to do, but after talking with another waiter, took my plate and offered me another meal. I ordered chicken and vegetables thinking this would be good, but it was horrible. I ate the white rice, finished my tea and set about leaving. The young waitress boxed up the food I hadn’t eaten and handed it to me. I should have left it.
  4. When we got home, I was carrying some groceries up the stairs along with the remains of the Chinese meal, when the container opened and spilled all over my coat, my pants, my shirt, and even got my socks! (The words of exasperation I used were not that of a lady!) I took off all my wet clothes in the laundry room and put them right in the wash! Fortunately I had clean, dry clothes right there that I could put on.
  5. Tonight Jack wanted some dinner, but I just scowled. I feel so over all food! I just want a nice hot mug of my grandmother’s warm milk and honey and a small pat of butter, before I go to bed. But because I am a good wife, I cooked Jack soup and made him up a plate of food to go with it.

So that was my wicked three hours, and in a few minutes I plan to go get my pajamas on, and get that mug of milk. The pups got me up at 5 this morning, and tonight I am one tired girl! But life is good and I am smiling again!

The Friday Five

This was another crazy busy week, with another wicked snow storm! I think the most interesting is that we had to go out the morning after the big snowfall, making me glad we had only gotten a foot of the cold, wet, white stuff! So here are the five things I am thinking about as the week comes to an end.

  1. Do any of you watch, “This is Us”? It’s my favorite show, and on Tuesday it was the last show of this season. I had to rewatch it so I could get all the small innuendos that were in the story-line.
  2. I watched a great program on National Geographic TV about Jane Goodall. She was the woman who has devoted her life to the study of Chimpanzees.
  3. As I said we had another big snow storm. We got close to 12 inches, but my daughter got more.
  4. This weekend I plan a nice quiet time. I want to wok on a few projects and just kick back a little.
  5. Next week is a busy week too. More snow is forecast, but best of all, next weekend I get to spend time with my daughter, granddaughter and grandson!
