What I Did This Past Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

The past weekend, Hubby and I spent an inordinate amount of time sleeping, watching mindless old movies, and finishing up the Christmas cards. Hubby was a big help with the annual Christmas letter. I did a rough outline, tossing in a few pictures, and he took the letter and put it together, and got it to make sense! Anyway, it’s done for another year….(thank goodness!)…and now I wait to see who I forgot.

Our colds are getting better. We’re definitely quieter, not coughing or sneezing as much, and my fever is gone.Yay!

I’m hoping to get down to Mandy’s place on Friday so I can see her and Savannah, and we can go and Christmas shop! It’s also getting close to Mandy’s birthday and I really want to take her out for lunch some place nice.

I’ve been writing a new blog which is helping me focus on my weight-loss journey. You can go HERE to The Wednesday Morning Losers site and read what I am writing about. It is geared toward the Weight Watchers plan, but anyone who has ever dieted can relate to what I’m saying.

I think this afternoon I will pull the Christmas tree out of the attic today, along with all the decorating boxes. Then I will work on Monday actually putting up the tree. We use an artificial one, as I’m so allergic to pine trees.

And today is the 6th birthday of Arnie and Anneliese! So here is a little montage of their their time with us! It is so special when you keep puppies from the moment they are born and raise them. I’ve never had a relationship with an animal like this before!

This & That Thursday

I am so tired. I was up for two hours the other night with Anneliese. She was not feeling well at all. Plus she was violently shaking her head. I suspected she had a problem/infection with her ears. They smelled very bad, so after Hubby got up on Tuesday morning (he slept until almost 10 AM!), I called our Vet. No doctor was on call, so I ended up taking Anneliese to the other Vet location.

I saw a lady Vet. Dr. M. She had done Anneliese’s spaying surgery. In any case, I liked her very much, and indeed, Anneliese had a yeast infection in both ears! The doctor cleaned her ears and then put in the medication. She will need to have the drops instilled twice a day.

While I was there I talked with the receptionist. I discovered that their office is open 6 days a week. Since the woman I liked at the other office left her practice, I am not happy that they only have a Vet 2 days a week! So today I moved their records to the Laconia Office, and Dr. M.

So now I am off to an early bed and I promise to be a little more diligent with my blogging.

Allergies & Memories

It’s that time of year that I really have a hard time with. It’s allergy season! Everything has leafed out, and the flowers are blooming, and even the mold and fungus is ripe with pollen. I find I am so very stuffed up, with itching eyes and a dripping nose.

Saturday morning I wanted to get out and weed the garden. I hated to do this because I knew it would cause me to start sneezing, especially since Hubby was mowing the lawn. I spent an hour there, and sure enough, the nose got stopped up, and now I cannot breathe.

I have taken antihistamines, and some Motrin for the headache, but so far nothing has worked!  I’ll tell you quite honestly, I really hate allergies!

The garden is starting to come along. The weeding has helped, and in a bit I will need to go out and water it again. In this heat wave we are having, I find I am watering the garden 3 times a day, but the plants are looking better and I may just get some vegetables out of the garden this year.

The potted plants appear to be doing better. They’ve all grown marvelously and all but one of the plants have vegetables growing. My eggplants are especially prolific this year.

Sunday night is more of the USA Olympic Trials, with more gymnastics. I love that. It got me thinking about watching Olga Korbut. She was so perfect and full of life. Take a moment to watch this video of her at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.

Yes. Dear Olga Korbut, you inspired little girls everywhere, including me!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Spring is in the air (at least in my neck of the woods) and the birds are singing…what’s your favorite bird?

Locally, the Loon. It is a beautiful bird and their calls are haunting. They are excellent parents with their little chicks, allowing them to sit on their backs while they cruise the lake.

loon

2. Speaking of birds…do you tweet? If so tell us your screen name and we’ll come flocking to your Twitter site. Even if you don’t let’s all pretend here that we do-in 140 characters or less, sum up your week so far.

I did for a while, but I don’t have the time for that.

3. Its been reported recently that employers are not only viewing the facebook pages of potential hires but they’re also requesting your facebook password to have a look at what you’ve kept from public view. What say you?

I do not believe that the potential employer should be allowed to view you page, or to have your password.

4. It’s April and you know what that means-Major League Baseball is back in action. What’s your favorite baseball movie? If that’s too hard, what’s your favorite sports themed movie?

Fever Pitch! C’mon, what Red Sox fan doesn’t just love that movie?

5. Something else this season brings-asparagus. Yes please or no thanks? If it’s yes please what’s your favorite way to have it prepared?

Yes! I love it every way it can be fixed, but Hubby just likes it steamed.

6. What drives you? (Don’t you love how I sandwiched that one in between asparagus and jugglers???)

The commitment I made to my family. Both human and furry!

7. April 18th is International Jugglers Day…can you juggle?

If you mean can I juggle oranges? No. Can I juggle three different programs, clean my house, and make meals, yes!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

When I came home on Tuesday morning after dropping Anneliese at the Vets, the other three dogs were all upset. Hubby as well. I’m a wreck, but deep in my heart and soul, I know it is best for her health.

This & That

Monday was a beautiful day! It was hot though, (89F), which made me ask Hubby if we could get the air conditioner in the kitchen installed for the summer. He agreed, so now we have two of our five air conditioners installed.

I remember when we planned our home, we didn’t think we would need air conditioning. I’m not sure why I thought this, but were we wrong!

The first summer we lived in the house, I remember taking our meals on tray tables into our bedroom, where we had our only air conditioning unit!

The following springtime, we purchased window units for the rest of the house, lest we melt during the summers.

I was busy around the house and then after lunch Hubby asked for help turning the garden. I pulled on my bathing suit and sneakers, topped that off with a baseball cap and out I went. Two things occurred. Some sort of bug was nibbling on me and I was getting tired very fast. After 15 minutes I stopped to get something to drink and then after another 15 minutes, Hubby and I were done.

I showered, and came out in my pajamas to fix Hubby and I dinner. Dinner was okay, and now I have collapsed in my chair!

Please say a little prayer for Anneliese, as today she is undergoing her spaying.

What I Did This Past Weekend

***************

This past weekend was actually a fairly interesting one. Since it was the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of Titanic, I watched shows a great deal of the day on Sunday, about the ship, the people who built it, and the people who survived. It was quite interesting to know that Mr. Ismay, who designed the ship, took a spot in a life boat and survived. After that he was ostracized by his contemporaries. (Ah yeah. What was he thinking? Women and children first!)

I also watched several movies over the course of the weekend. I watched “Life As We Know It”, “The Blue Collar Comedy Tour”, “Anatomy Of A Murder”, and “Bridesmaids”. Hubby and I started making a list of movies we can watch for free on Amazon Prime. The list is getting rather long. Hooray!

I did some laundry, cooked some meals, and it seems I slept a lot. I’m still not 100% and I tire easily.

I had a report to write, and that took 3 hours. I wish I could write fluidly, but I simply cannot. Three hours and four pages later and I was done.

It’s a busy week I have coming up. Tomorrow, Anneliese will be spayed. When I pick her up, in the afternoon, Fritz will get his blood work done. Wednesday, depending on how Anneliese is, I will go to Weight Watchers. Thursday a friend of mine is having a meet and greet as she runs for reelection for her state seat, and Friday the weekend starts all over again!

Dackels To The Vets

It’s that time of year when the dogs all go to the Vet’s for their shots. Today was that day. Despite not feeling 100%, I felt it was important to take the dackels in for their heart worm checks, and their shots. Besides, they just LOVE to ride in the car.

At 9:30 I opened the door and asked “Who wants to go for a ride?”

Three little dackels hopped into my car, and off we went. It takes about 20 minutes to get to my Vet’s office. I was sad to hear that she is out right now. She broke her ankle in three places skiing and actually needed surgery to set everything.

So today we got the substitute Vet. Dr. G. was very nice, and it was so funny to see Greta with him! She had a major attack of unbelievable cuteness! I think she had a crush on him!

Anyway, they all checked out well, and their visit didn’t break the bank. I did come right back home though because I am still not feeling my best, but at least I accomplished something today!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Share something you loved about your Christmas Day.

As the snow gently fell, Hubby and I had a typical German breakfast. We exchanged a few gifts and later on enjoyed Prime Rib! Total yumminess!!!

Dec 25 014

2. You get to put five items in a time capsule to be opened in 100 years, what items would you choose and why?

1. The complete DVD  series of Julia Child “The French Chef”, as well as the DVD “Julie and Julia”.

french chef

2. A copy of “9/11” The film is the “accidental documentary” made by French brothers and film makers, Gedeon and Jules Naudet.

3. Pictures of my daughter and grandchild. My gifts to the world!

4. The Harry Potter series of books and films.

5. The Bible.

3. What do you like on a cracker?

Oh, goodness, almost anything! I guess, mostly cheese.

4. Do you make resolutions at the start of a new year? How’d that work out for you this past year?

Four years ago, I made a resolution to go to Weight Watchers and lose weight. This year, I want to step up my program with them and drop those ten pounds that have crept on.

5. What’s a song or song lyric you’ll associate with 2011?

I am old, therefore, I think of things that were popular in 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s as being contemporary! Yes, I am an oldies girl! But I like Taylor Swift and “Life is a Fairytale”!

Time slows down whenever you’re around
Yeah yeah

But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there

It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

6. How will you ring in the new year?

Champagne, canapes, and pajamas!

7. What is something you look forward to in 2012?

My first grandchild! Oh, how much I am looking forward to that precious new life coming into the world!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

As the days of 2011 wind down, I look back to the many things in the year, that I am thankful for. I have come to understand, that in this life, the people you love, good health and a happy home is what are really important.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!!

Happy Fifth Birthday, Arnie & Anneliese

Born five years ago and placed in my hands, five beautiful puppies. Three went to wonderful new homes, but Arnie and Anneliese stayed behind and became my babies! They are the sweetest dogs I have ever had, and even though they are now five, I still refer to them as puppies, and I also refer to them as “the twins”, even though they aren’t technically twins.

So my little lovelies, Happy Birthday. It truly does seem like just the other day that you were born!

Why Don’t Dogs Go Hoarse?

After lunch on Monday I needed to run a number of errands. You know, Bank, Post Office, Town Hall, Pharmacy, Grocery Store, etc. So, seeing as Anneliese is still in heat and Hubby was working on the last lawn mowing of the year, I decided to take Anneliese with me.

Aug 28 006

First we stopped at the Post Office. While I went in, Anneliese barked and barked and barked. I was inside waiting for a package and I could hear her out there.

Next I stopped at book store. I need to get a magnifying sheet for my books. I had to walk from the parking lot about 40 feet to the store and then into the shop and I could still still hear her.

Next I drove to the Town Hall. My report was due and I needed to leave it there. I crossed the road, and went into the brick building and bark, bark, bark!

I came back, all the while listening to her bark, but here’s the kicker. As soon as I got into the car each time, she stopped barking and rode quite nicely.

I went to the Pharmacy and Grocery Store, and bark away she did! Barking like she was a Great Dane and not a 16 pound dachshund!

Our last stop was The Bank! There was no barking at all! Why you might ask? Well, because as soon as we pulled up, the nice lady sent out two doggy cookies for her.

Anneliese may be loud…but not stupid!

We arrived home shortly after that and it made me wonder, with all that barking…why don’t dogs go hoarse?
