Friday Fill-Ins

Friday Fill-Ins

And…here we go!

1. The wind blew wildly and and her hair blew free.
2. Hot chocolate and a homemade chocolate chip cookie made me feel warm and happy all over.
3. The smell of bread baking makes me think of back in the day when I used to bake all my own bread.
4. When I am feeling lazy I get a fleece blanket, and cuddle up with a dackel or two.
5. Brilliant sky blue is my favorite color.
6. The door creaked and a black cat, with glowing yellow eyes came in.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to a shower and shampoo, tomorrow my plans include hopefully seeing my cousin and Sunday, I want to be feeling a lot better!

Please, Bear With Me….

I wish I could tell you that this set of surgeries have been easy for me, but they haven’t. The first day found them having to operate 4 times to remove the cancer on my nose before they packed it up with gauze and sent me to the hotel. I hardly slept with the pain, but soon enough it was time to get up and go to the hospital.
It was snowing hard, just like I knew it would. We made it over fine, as the hotel was only a quarter of a mile from the hospital. (It was the Residence Inn and truly catered to me making my stay comfortable and pleasant. And they accept dogs, although we did not bring ours!))
At the hospital, they took me right in as I was the first surgery of the day, and the nurses got me all prepared. The Anesthesiologist came and spoke to me, explaining that they would put me to sleep for this operation, and the two doctors came in and looked at what they had left to work with. Frankly when the Anesthesiologist came back to bring me to the OR, he gave me my first injection and I fell instantly asleep.
The decision was made to take a flap of skin from my forehead and spread it over my nose. Meanwhile they stitched the top of the forehead up. There is still a flap attached to the forehead so the skin can get a blood supply.
All that means is that I must be very quiet for the next week. I go back on Tuesday to get the stitches out and then they will decide when to do the last operation to mend in the flap. That is also another surgery where I will have to go to sleep.
So I am not attaching pictures of my poor face. I know a few of you don’t do well, and these are pretty graphic. But should anyone want to see them I will forward them to you privately.
In the night Apparently my hair got all twisted and this morning I spent 20 minutes combing out the snarls. I now have pony tails like Abby Scuitto on NCIS. This way I can lie flat without my hair getting all twisted.
I am lucky that I have gotten the cancer taken care of. I know this. But  the pain is very great!
Hubby has been wonderful, truly spoiling me and making sure I have good nourishment and plenty of fluids. I’m a lucky woman!
Well, that is all for now. I need to put my head back so the bleeding doesn’t start again.

Day 2 Of My Surgery

The plastic surgery on Tuesday was pretty complicated, and right now I feel very much like the Bride of Frankenstein.

The area to cover was about the size of a quarter, so they had to use a grafting process I was not familiar with.

They took tissue from the forehead, and turned it and covered the nose. So, there is a little flap at the bridge of my nose for now. I have about a dozen or so little stitches on my forehead and then, or course the graft.

But, I tell myself that the cancer is gone and I am a lucky girl!

Here is a little funny thing. As I was being wheeled in to surgery, I must have fallen asleep, as I remember nothing of actually going into the surgical suite. I also remember nothing until I came to in recovery.

Recovery will be long, but I’m prepared. I’m putting in a small photo, but if you want to see details click on it and it should take you right to it.

By A Nose!

When you wake up today, I will be in the Operating Room getting my new nose! I decided not to bring my laptop with me to the hospital, so I am actually pre-posting this.

clown nose!

I’ll be coming back home later today and I will eventually unveil my new nose. I am hopeful that the cancer will be removed and the nose fixed without complications. However, they tell me that it will be a while before the swelling goes down.

I’ll have my Kindle with me and I will be checking Facebook and my email.

After Day One

It took four operations to do it, but now I am cancer free! Tomorrow is the plastic surgery!!!

The Weekend

My Yahoo Email account was hacked. For anyone who got an email that had a subject line of “Hot News” that was it and I am very sorry. I hardly use that address, so I have gone in and deleted all my contacts. It seems Yahoo has more hackings than other email account. Please forgive me, if you got one of those emails.

Our house sitter stopped by today and everything is set for that. The dogs were so excited to see him, and everything will be fine.

Hubby was joking today that all he hopes is that my nose doesn’t come out looking like “Voldemort’s”! Ha-Ha. Very funny. Not! But he seemed to think so.

I’ve cooked my corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots. A true St. Patrick’s Day celebration!

We’re all packed and ready to roll in the morning! I had the suitcase on our bed, and Arnie climbed inside! Lol. Think we should bring him?

Spring Cleaning…

First, I want all spammers to go away! I’ve been inundated with spam and it’s driving me crazy. I like a nice neat inbox and Blog page!

Saturday was what I’d like to call a whirl-wind cleaning day. I’d decided to make up a list of all I needed to do, and then try to get as much done as I could.

So I started at 8:30 AM and did everything from vacuuming my entire house, dusting, washing three bathrooms, and scrubbing all the floors in the house that are not carpeted! I also made three meals, did 5 loads of laundry, and folded it and put it all away!

My recliner is covered and I will get the pillow and sheets prepared for when I come home, but I won’t put those on until I’m actually here and can keep the dogs away.

Sunday is packing day and organizing our bags. Hubby wants to bring his laptop, and since he is coming along, I will bring my laptop as well.

Yes, a whirl-wind! But it’s looking and smelling great in this house!

Savannah, 10 Months Old

On Friday Hubby and I met up with Mandy and Savannah for lunch. I cannot describe to you in adequate words, what it is like to walk into a restaurant, walk over to your grandchild, call her name, and see a bright smile light up her face!

March 15 005

Yeah, I just melted into a big Grandma puddle!

She is growing and changing so fast that I simply cannot believe it! She is now eating real food! I was amazed at her chowing down on broccoli and actually liking it!

Mandy got orange chicken and Savannah’s first bites she made the funniest faces! Priceless!

March 15 006

I am just so proud of my daughter. She is such a good mother and it is obvious to see that she is doing it all right, as Savannah has to be the happiest baby I’ve ever seen!

March 15 007

And Mandy, one of the happiest mothers!

Friday Fill-Ins

Friday Fill-Ins

1. I was looking for my cell phone, which was no where to be found! So I took Hubby’s phone and called mine. It was right where I left it…in my jacket pocket.
2. Family and friend dinners (are) is one of my favorite ways to socialize.
3. I looked at the clock, darn Daylight Saving Time! I hate to spring forward and lose sleep like this.
4. Big thick pens that actually fit in your hand is the type of pen I most prefer to use.
5. What in the world will my nose look like in a week?.
6. Arriving early for things seems to happen to me often.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to putting boxes in the attic and watching TV, tomorrow my plans include lots of cleaning, mopping and bed-making and Sunday, I want to finish the laundry, and pack our bags!

Thursday Thirteen

Aug 1 002

I’m actually feeling positive today about my upcoming surgery.

  1. Lucky for us, we found a house sitter/dog sitter, so Hubby will be with me every step of the way.
  2. We got a hotel reservation with a hospital discount. Woo-hoo!
  3. Not only do they include breakfast in the price of the room, but dinner with wine or beer as well.
  4. That’s a good thing because after my first procedure I may not feel like going out.
  5. The reviews for the hotel give it 5 stars out of 5.
  6. One reviewer said the beds were very comfortable! Yay beds!
  7. I got all my pre-registration done on the phone last night.
  8. All my paperwork is in order!
  9. I went out with my girlfriend for lunch today to catch up.
  10. I went to Weight Watchers in the morning and lost half a pound!
  11. The Dackels go in to the Vets for their yearly exam tomorrow.
  12. Friday I am off to see Savannah and Mandy for lunch.
  13. Then it is packing, cleaning, and preparing over the weekend!

Congratulations to all my Catholic friends. The new Pope seems like a lovely man. I will pray that he cares well for the Church.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Do you play games of luck/chance for money? Have you ever played bingo for money? Visited a casino? Placed a bet on a horse? Bought a lottery ticket?

No, I do not gamble at all. I have seen families ruined when someone literally gambled their entire life away.

2. Will you be preparing and/or dining on the traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage meal this St. Patrick’s Day? Mashed-baked-hash browned-french fried…your favorite way to have potatoes?

I will be making the traditional corned beef and cabbage. Love it! (Once a year!) My favorite way to have potatoes are french fries. However, I try not to have them. When I am being true to my diet I eat baked potatoes most of the time.

3. What’s the last thing you felt ‘green with envy’ over?

I cannot think of any. I have always tried not to want what others have, and to be happy for them when they have good things in their lives.

4. What’s at the end of your rainbow?

Mandy and Savannah Rose! I am just over the moon with love for my daughter and granddaughter! (Hubby too, of course!)

5. March 12th marks the anniversary of the death of Anne Frank (June 12, 1929-March, 1945). Anne’s diary detailing her time spent hiding from the Nazi’s during the war ranks as one of the best selling books of all time. Besides your blog, do you keep any sort of diary or journal? Was this a habit you developed as a child or is journaling something new for you?

My blog is my diary. Honestly, when I need dates and to identify happenings, I look back into my blog archives.

6. What’s an item in your home or closet that contains every color of the rainbow?

A Mexican blanket that we got years and years ago. Literally, it has all the colors of the world.

7. Write a limerick with you as the subject. You can do it!! Just remember this is a family friendly blog…don’t make me get out my wooden spoon.

There once was a girl named MB
who cooked so much that it seemed
that the pots in her house were all full
with soups, stews and cheesy fondue

And MB smiled broadly for all!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Tuesday is election day here in my little town. It’s a crucial election, as we have some people who would like to raise our taxes considerably. The other candidates would like to use some funds to repair roads, town buildings, but not heap onto that new taxes to build newer buildings. Right now, our little town of 6000 people cannot handle more taxes. We shall see how it all shakes out.
