Anneliese Bunny Thief!

Today a box arrived in the mail. Inside was a little gift for Arnie. You see a little while back, Arnie’s favorite toy was demolished. Yes, Mr. Bunny was torn to pieces and was buried in the trash. Poor Arnie missed him a lot.

So, imagine today’s surprise when I opened the box and Arnie found Mr. Bunny inside!!! He was so happy and immediately grabbed him and ran into the family room.

Now, Greta had her Wild Boar birthday gift, and Arnie had Mr. Bunny, so Anneliese felt a little left out, even though there were a million dog toys around the house.

Anneliese paced back and forth, she watched and waited, and when Arnie let his guard down, she pounced! And got Mr. Bunny!

As you can see by this little photo montage, the dogs were all having a good time, but at the end of the day Anneliese is curled up with Mr. Bunny and the other two dogs are asleep without their toys. Yes, Anneliese is a force of nature. The smallest of our dogs, but with a true stubborn steak inside of her.

You just have to love a dachshund!

Day Light Saving & Greta

Today I simply didn’t want to get up. Hubby woke early, as he was going to go skiing, but while he got himself ready for the slopes, I pulled the covers over my head and tried to remain asleep. I thought I was going to get away with it, but then Hubby said, “Aren’t you going to get up?” and I knew that I really needed to do just that.

The clocks changed over the weekend, and we lost an hour as we “sprang forward”! This is always so hard for me to do. Somehow in the Autumn when we “fall back” an hour I can handle that. An extra hour of sleep is always most welcome.

The other dilemma with this whole clock changing thing is that the dogs just don’t get it. I try to explain to them that they should sleep in and let me sleep too, but once that sun starts rising early, well they are literally up with the birds!

Their other problem is dinner time. They eat at exactly 5 PM, and anything that changes this, upsets their little doggy routine.

So while Hubby skied, I took Greta in for her yearly exam and shots. She is well and was thrilled to be the only dog going for a ride in the car. A real treat for her.

The Birthday Party!

Today was our sweet Greta’s birthday party. The kids arrived and we set the table with party plates and cups. I made an ice cream sherbet punch for the humans, and we got Greta and sang Happy Birthday to her and then the twins blew out the candles for her on the cake.

Cake was served to humans and dogs alike (I refrained as I am a cake-a-holic and I didn’t want to mess up my diet) and after we finished up, we got out the presents.

Hubby and I gave her a stuffed Wild Boar toy! This thing is so cute, and she really loved it. The twins brought her cupcakes and Emily gave her a Dingo bone. Which Greta loved and has already consumed!

Here are a few pictures of the event. I hope you enjoy them!

Happy Fourth Birthday Greta!

Today is the celebration of Greta’s fourth birthday. The neighborhood children are due in later on to have cake and ice cream with our little birthday girl, and she will get a few nice presents I am sure.

I look back at my life 4 years ago. It was around this time that I learned that a breeder in Germany had a litter of pups and a woman I know arranged for me to call him and get one of his puppies.

I remember the day we first saw her! She was really something. Bright, alert and full of confidence, even though she was just 8 weeks old!

We flew home with her and I worried about how she would fit in with the other dogs. I worried she would get hurt because they were so much bigger than she was. Well, what a waste of time that was. My Greta moved in and took over the house!

March 2 005

She stole our hearts and those of our neighbors. She learned all about dackel life from our old girl, Shubi, and she played with wild abandon with Fritz.

She loves the children in our neighborhood and the grandchildren of our neighbor, and just about wags her tail off when they come to visit.

She is the mother of Arnie and Anneliese, and really, she was such a good Mom to all of her five babies. I can hardly wait for her to do it again!

She is a sweetheart with me too. After Shubi passed away, Greta moved into her spot nuzzled next to my stomach when I am in bed. She is such a cuddler and such a little friend. How blessed I am to have this wonderful dog in my life!

Happy Birthday, Dearest Greta!

A New Look

Today was my day of beauty. It’s the day that Margarita takes this plain Jane and turns her into a swan! LOL! I always love my days at her salon. I feel pampered, I feel relaxed and I always leave feeling better about the way I look.

Today was an important day. My hair had finally grown long enough to actually shape into a style.

When I arrived I wanted to show off the 22 pound weight loss, so I entered Margarita’s room with a tada and the words, “What do you think?”

Well, she was doing the hair of a man and he smiled and said, “Beautiful”. I blushed as I thought she had a woman in there!

Then it was my turn to get “the works”.

A BLOG PIC

I left feeling like a million dollars. The reaction to my new hair style, so far, has been positive. I know I like it. What do you all think?

***I didn’t gain, nor did I lose at Weight Watchers last night. I stayed exactly the same.***

Thursday Thirteen #68

TT

Thirteen things that begin with the Letter C that I like!

1. Cake. Yes, my favorite cake is chocolate cake with butter cream frosting! Hmmmm!

2. Canning. I love to can our fruits and vegetables each year! Then taste their sweetness all winter long!

3. Car. I love my car it’s a 2004 Cadillac DeVille. Oh it drives like a dream!

4. Chicken. Good thing for me. I am eating a lot of it on Weight Watchers! LOL!

5. Charcoal. I know many people like to cook on a gas grille outside, but I love charcoal. It just ads so much flavor to the meat/chicken/fish that I cook!

6. Candles. I love a certain candle that my sister gave me. It smells like Angel-food Cake!

7. Coffee. Yes, I love coffee. Any old way it is made.

8. Cruising. I never thought I would like it, but it turns out that I LOVE it.

9. Champagne. Although I don’t drink any longer, I really do love champagne! Ooooh, the bubbles!

10. Christmas! What a wonderful time of year. Bright lights, candles in the window and Christmas carols. Not to mention the presents!

11. Cats. I have had many cats in my life, from the one who was already with my family when I was born, Smoky, to the very last cat I had, Tigger. Cats are so neat, but my love of dogs doesn’t leave me a lot of room in my house or my heart for another cat.

12. Comfy chair. I have a Lane Snuggler, which is almost a mini love seat. I get a small corner of it, while the three dachshunds take over the rest. I think if I get another chair I will have to get the same one, or I will end up on the floor!

13. Canoe. My favorite restaurant ever. I am going to suggest to Hubby that we go there this week for dinner.

Pocketbooks & Shoes!

Today I decided to take a little time out for myself. I decided that I should go and find a new purse. I’ve lost 22 pounds, and I didn’t want to buy clothes, but a new purse would be perfect. So off I went.

Now I am not the type of person that will go into a store and just spend wildly. No, I love a good deal! I went to my favorite discounter and started to paw through their purses.

As I was entering the store I got a call from my friend, Gail. She lives in another state and quite often we will call each other and then through the marvels of the Verizon network, we go shopping together even though we are separated by several hundred miles.

We were chatting away, and I actually found a great bag.

While we continued our chat and I was wandering through the store, I happened to mention my inability to find a certain pair of shoes that I love! Gail asked who made them. I responded “Merrell”. She asked which ones and I described them and told her I was looking for the black leather ones, like this.

I have been all over New Hampshire looking for them with no luck. Gail has the same shoe! In fact she is also a big lover of this model. And as it turns out, Gail has an Outlet for these shoes near her home, and she got in her car and drove over (all while we were still on the phone) and although they didn’t have them right there, they called the distributor and they will be mailed directly to me! I am so excited!

You see, Gentle Reader, I am a shoe and purse junkie. There are two things that I absolutely love. Pocketbooks (purses) and shoes! It’s like an illness. Today I realized just how bad it was. Being in the purse section of this shop found me touching all the purses, smelling them, gently running my fingers over the softness of the leather. Yes, I am completely crazed when I get near discounted leather products!

It was a nice way to spend the day, and to treat myself for the last 6 weeks and the 22 pound weight loss.

Playing!

The puppies had their first year Vet visit today. They were weighed (Arnie was 18.8 pounds and Anneliese was 16.2 pounds), examined and given all their shots. They were exceptionally good pups, until a teacup poodle and his owner entered the clinic and then they began to bark like two wild maniacs! The old man looked down his nose at them, and then glared at me and said, “I think you need the Dog Whisperer!”

The funny thing is, had he just put the dog down, my two would have played with it and all would have been fine. In any case, I felt firmly chastised for being the owner of these two little, wild, beasts! LOL!

Next week is Greta’s appointment for her shots, and then in April Fritz will go have his teeth cleaned and get all his shots done.

I stopped at the New Hampshire Crafts Shop to visit my friend, with both puppies, as well as the Post Office. The pups loved this, and everyone was pleased to see them too.

It actually became sunny and a bit warm (40 degrees F) by noon. Emily had a half day of school, so once she was here, we had lunch and after that we went out to play with the dogs.

Hubby worked on the path around the house again today, blowing the snow back down to a passable pathway. Then we came in and Emily and I did some computer work together, looked at magazines and chatted until it was time for her to go home.

All in all, a very nice day!
