Pocketbooks & Shoes!

Today I decided to take a little time out for myself. I decided that I should go and find a new purse. I’ve lost 22 pounds, and I didn’t want to buy clothes, but a new purse would be perfect. So off I went.

Now I am not the type of person that will go into a store and just spend wildly. No, I love a good deal! I went to my favorite discounter and started to paw through their purses.

As I was entering the store I got a call from my friend, Gail. She lives in another state and quite often we will call each other and then through the marvels of the Verizon network, we go shopping together even though we are separated by several hundred miles.

We were chatting away, and I actually found a great bag.

While we continued our chat and I was wandering through the store, I happened to mention my inability to find a certain pair of shoes that I love! Gail asked who made them. I responded “Merrell”. She asked which ones and I described them and told her I was looking for the black leather ones, like this.

I have been all over New Hampshire looking for them with no luck. Gail has the same shoe! In fact she is also a big lover of this model. And as it turns out, Gail has an Outlet for these shoes near her home, and she got in her car and drove over (all while we were still on the phone) and although they didn’t have them right there, they called the distributor and they will be mailed directly to me! I am so excited!

You see, Gentle Reader, I am a shoe and purse junkie. There are two things that I absolutely love. Pocketbooks (purses) and shoes! It’s like an illness. Today I realized just how bad it was. Being in the purse section of this shop found me touching all the purses, smelling them, gently running my fingers over the softness of the leather. Yes, I am completely crazed when I get near discounted leather products!

It was a nice way to spend the day, and to treat myself for the last 6 weeks and the 22 pound weight loss.

Playing!

The puppies had their first year Vet visit today. They were weighed (Arnie was 18.8 pounds and Anneliese was 16.2 pounds), examined and given all their shots. They were exceptionally good pups, until a teacup poodle and his owner entered the clinic and then they began to bark like two wild maniacs! The old man looked down his nose at them, and then glared at me and said, “I think you need the Dog Whisperer!”

The funny thing is, had he just put the dog down, my two would have played with it and all would have been fine. In any case, I felt firmly chastised for being the owner of these two little, wild, beasts! LOL!

Next week is Greta’s appointment for her shots, and then in April Fritz will go have his teeth cleaned and get all his shots done.

I stopped at the New Hampshire Crafts Shop to visit my friend, with both puppies, as well as the Post Office. The pups loved this, and everyone was pleased to see them too.

It actually became sunny and a bit warm (40 degrees F) by noon. Emily had a half day of school, so once she was here, we had lunch and after that we went out to play with the dogs.

Hubby worked on the path around the house again today, blowing the snow back down to a passable pathway. Then we came in and Emily and I did some computer work together, looked at magazines and chatted until it was time for her to go home.

All in all, a very nice day!

The Snow

Fritz and I took a walk around the yard with the video camera today. I wanted to show you all how deep the snow is. What I found was deep snow, and places where the snow had drifted in and I suddenly found myself sinking up to my thighs!

The wind was blowing hard, so the audio isn’t the best. Please forgive me! But I did try to narrate so you would know what you were seeing. I also made a few mistakes with my English, thus proving that ones native language is not always easily spoken! LOL

So, without further ado, may I present, New Hampshire’s near record breaking snow!

She’s Back!

Emily arrived home after a week in sunny/rainy Florida. She came over after lunch and told me all about her trip, showed me pictures and the things that she had gotten while shopping on her trip. She said she hadn’t gotten any sun, but I could see where the sun had kissed her cheeks while she was away.

Of course she arrived just before our latest storm. We got another 8 inches of snow last night, which means that our yard is now officially buried beyond anything that I have ever seen in my life. In fact they say we have had well over 100 inches of snow, and they do believe we will break the all time record for snow in New Hampshire this year.

I was going to take some pictures today, but when I went out with my model, Arnie, he jumped up on top of the snow and headed across our yard and into the yard of our neighbors, disappearing from my sight. I wasn’t in my boots so I had to run back in the house before attempting to slog my way through 4 1/2 feet of snow to retrieve him. By the time I got back out the little turkey had burrowed back through the snow and was standing there wagging his tail at me!

Hubby spent the entire day blowing snow and he fell asleep right after dinner in his chair. All I can say is, come on, Mother Nature, give us a break!

Another Weigh In

I knew it was going to be a good night at Weight Watchers. I fixed Hubby his dinner, fed the dogs and walked them and then headed out through the snow laden streets of New Hampshire to my meeting.

I was the second person to arrive, and I weighed in. 2.4 pounds down! Yippee!!! I was so excited that I actually threw my arms in the air.

Because I was early I was able to talk to the Leader of our group and two other women about the program. We exchanged some thoughts and ideas and I really felt good about my accomplishment.

I love to eat. I love to cook. Embarking on this program was a big step for me. One I wasn’t sure I could do. However, since I am learning new ways to cook the foods I like, discovering new recipes for new foods, new ideas for meals, I find that it really does keep me interested, and I keep some quick meals in the freezer for those moments when I am not in the mood to cook anything at all.

Now here is the real challenge. Going out to eat. I haven’t been doing that at all since I started the diet, but I think it is time to give it a try. Perhaps a trip to Canoe next week would be fun!

After losing 22 pounds, I think it would be a nice way to celebrate!

Thursday Thirteen #67

Thursday 13

Here are 13 things about me that begin with the letter B!

1. Bride. Getting married to Hubby and being his Bride was such a happy time in our life. I look back now, almost 20 years and being his Bride, still makes me smile!

2. Babies. Giving birth to my two daughters was the absolute BEST!!! I remember when the doctor handed Amanda to me and I saw her face for the first time. Talk about instant LOVE!

3. Berlin. Hubby and I lived there back in 1989. It was before the Berlin Wall came down and looking back, a fascinating time in history. Now, my best friend Uschi lives there!

4. Bavaria. One of the most beautiful places on earth. Also the place where we found our beloved Shubi!

5. Bread. This is my downfall. I love bread. I also make bread. Good bread. I had to stop baking it because I would eat way too much.

6. Bermuda. One of my favorite warm spots. I first went there when I was 13 with my parents, and years later spent several layovers there with Hubby.

7. Briarwood. This is a summer camp where I met my oldest and dearest friend, Gail. We were two 13 year old kids looking for something, and we found each other and the friendship of a lifetime.

8. Best Friends. I am so lucky to have several women who are my best and dearest friends. Some I have known since I first drew breath, others I have found along life’s road. All are special in their own ways!

9. Beaches. I grew up just down the road from the beach. So you could say that the sea and the sand are in my soul!

10. Bacon. I can’t help it. I love bacon. Crisp and smoky!

11. Bananas. Call me a monkey, but I love those too!

12. Breakfast. When I am not really watching what I eat, I love a good big breakfast. Bacon, pancakes, eggs, the lot! I love it so much I could eat Breakfast any time during the day.

13. Backpack. I have a great backpack and I love to use it when I travel. It is so comfortable and convenient to use.

13 A. Blog. I really love writing my blog and I hope that you all enjoy what I do too! (Thanks, Mar for reminding me! How could I have missed this one?)

There you go. Thirteen + things brought to you by the letter B about me this week!

Spaghetti, Skiing & More Snow

Life is never dull around here, that’s for sure. Today found me trying to get a few things done before another 12 inches of snow falls. (Yes, more snow in my already overloaded back yard!)

I started with the help of Sarah, who arrived shortly after breakfast, and assisted me in getting a batch of Weight Watchers spaghetti sauce going on the stove. Hubby was off skiing today, as he is sure to be out snow blowing tomorrow after the storm.

While Sarah and I worked, the dogs played and I stopped briefly to capture a few pictures. Like this one of Arnie as he played!

Once the sauce was simmering, I made a nice warm fire in the hearth. There is something about snowy weather that just forces me to build a fire and then sit back and enjoy it. Sarah loved it too!

Feb 262 008

After a while Hubby returned from the slopes of Cannon Mountain, and we made him lunch, and he told us about his morning skiing.

Feb 26 001

Now it is the evening. The snow is coming down harder and I am actually believing that we will get the forecast amount of snow. I’m just not sure where it will go, as our town is quite literally buried under all the snow. Our yard must have a good four feet in it, and around town the snow is piled so high you can hardly see to pull out in traffic. In all my 49 years, I have never seen this much snow in the parts of New England where I have lived.

The dogs just came in and collapsed by the fire and I had to snap this shot of Fritz and Anneliese.

Ah the end to another snowy day.
