Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. The Summer Olympics begin next week and London is playing host. If you had the chance to go in person which (non-Olympic) London site would you most like to visit?

That is tough because Hubby and I have spent time in London. I think the Victoria and Albert Museum, or perhaps the National Gallery. I love art and I love to gaze upon beautiful things.

2. What is something in your life right now that feels like an Olympic event?

Do we have to talk about the cleaning of my office again? Right now I have determined to buy a paper shredder, and then let lose in my office. I am too paper heavy in there and need to shred my way through.

3. What’s your favorite supper to prepare and serve when it’s too hot to cook?

Hamburgers, hotdogs, and potato salad with corn on the cob. If lobster is cheap, then lobster, corn on the cob and potato salad!

4. July 18th is National Get Out of the Doghouse Day…when was the last time you were ‘in the doghouse’?

I actually hate to be “in the doghouse” so I work really hard at being good. Every once in a while I open mouth and insert foot and…well you know, I get in trouble, but not recently.

5. What television advertisement do you find particularly irritating or inappropriate? You may not answer with ‘all of them’. I know some of you were thinking about it.

Right now we are in a battle ground state, politically. So each day we are bombarded with the most horrible political commercials. So I would have to say both parties are making me nuts!

6. Share one piece of interesting news from the year you were born.

1958 was truly an interesting year!

January 8 – 14-year-old Bobby Fischer wins the United States Chess Championship.

July 7-President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs the Alaska Statehood Act into United States law.

December 25 – Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker (the George Balanchine version) is shown on prime-time television in color for the first time, as an episode of the CBS anthology series Playhouse 90.

7. What’s the best part of your average day?

When Hubby and I sit down and have a drink and talk about 4-5 o’clock each day. It’s so nice to touch base with each other like that.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I just found out that on Friday I need to go in and have a root canal. I’ve had that toothache since last week and today I saw my dentist and he started me on antibiotics and I’ll see him on Friday.

Saturday

I woke up on Friday morning with an aching tooth. I can’t really determine which tooth it is, so I am hoping that it is from grinding my teeth last night due to stress. I hope. If not then come Tuesday, I must see my dentist.

You see, I’ve been under a little bit of stress. You all know I am a Library Trustee, but recently, I have had some problems with the other Trustees and where they want to go with the Library. Two weeks ago, another Trustee resigned and today…I resigned.

I wrote my letters of resignation, and now it is done! I can finally relax and not let the stress consume me. However, right now, my teeth/jaw really aches!

It continues to be really hot here and topped out at 103 degrees Fahrenheit! I watered my garden three times today, and I noticed a big moth. If anyone knows what kind of moth it is…please leave it in the comment section.

July 13 12 005

It stayed around all day, and let me photograph it from all angles. I was amazed. You see, it is very large.

Friday night is Hot Wings, and celery and blue cheese for dinner! One of my favorite pick-up meals. I also bought some great Baby back ribs for the weekend.

And lastly, one of my family is having a health crisis. Please keep her in your prayers. She is a lovely young woman and this is breaking her heart as well as all of ours.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. How often do you check the weather? How do you check the weather?

Depending on the season once a day. In the winter, more often, because of the possibility of  blizzards. Local news and weather or the Weather Channel.

2. Since this is volume 84 of the Wednesday Hodgepodge, and since I got married in 1984, and since I’m attending a wedding this weekend it only seems right to post something related here.

“Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least. They always continue to grow sufficiently unlike afterwards to have their share of vexation; and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Agree or Disagree. Why?

I actually don’t agree because we have worked hard to keep a happy marriage. I also think it is important to know as much as you can know before you tie the knot! It makes the journey that much easier for the both of you.

3. Do you like to dance? Have you ever taken dance lessons?

I do, but Hubby doesn’t. Some girl told him he couldn’t dance when he was a teenager and I could kick her. On special days he will dance a slow one with me, but that is it. Usually at weddings, I dance with other women, and the children!

4. Fresh from the oven peach pie or home made peach ice cream? Pick one.

Peach ice cream! I’m not really a pie girl.

5. Should people accept unfairness and learn to make the best of it?

Sometimes you have no choice but to accept and make the best of it. I don’t like it, but what can you do!

6. The top five all time summer movie blockbusters (released between May and August and grossing at least 100 million dollars) are-Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars (the original), Ghostbusters, and ET. Which one’s your favorite?

That’s tough. I loved Star Wars, but also loved ET!

7. If given the chance, would you like to visit the moon?

Nope! I like having my feet planted firmly on the ground!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I’ve been watching the series “Sister Wives” on Amazon Prime. Although I know I could never be in a Polygamist marriage, I see this large family and the love they share in this modern multiple marriage. Do you think Polygamy is wrong, or should people be left alone to live their lives the way they wish? Please leave your vote in the comment section.

What I Did Over The Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

Over the weekend I did the usual, laundry, watering of the garden and meal preparation. What was different was that we also bathed the dogs, and then had to search for Greta because she ran away from home after her bath. I guess she showed us!

So now that the dogs smell wonderful, and are dry, both Hubby and I need to take baths!

It’s been terribly hot here, and we now have an official heat wave! This means that Hubby and I have spent quite a bit of time watering the garden. It seems we just get done watering it, and then we have to water it again!

We’ve had our first little cherry tomatoes come in, although they are not bright red and ready to eat. Soon though.

Still suffering with the allergies, but as the day closed out, I was slightly less stuffed up. A couple of good rain showers and the pollen levels will go down and I will be a whole lot more comfortable.

And my sweet Savannah Rose is now a month old! Boy, that sure went fast!

Thursday Thirteen

Thursday Thirteen Thoughts

  1. I lost three and a half pound this week at Weight Watchers! Yay for me!

  4. I’ve also been eating more fruit and vegetables.
  5. I still do not have my car back from the mechanic.

  13. June 26 12 002

  14. On Wednesday the duckling was brought to a rehab center all should be well now.
  15. Why do kids do such stupid and harmful things?

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What do the words ‘freedom’ and ‘liberty’ mean to you? Does your mind go more in the direction of not being persecuted or discriminated against or does it head in the direction of doing what you please?

Probably the former. Free from persecution and discrimination. After all, every society must a a base of moral conduct (rules) or they will cease to exist!

2. Nathan’s sponsors a hot dog eating contest every 4th of July. Last year over 40,000 people attended the event and almost 2 million watched it on TV. The winner ate over 60 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. How do you like your hot dogs?

Grilled in the summer, on a toasted roll, with spicy mustard and green pickle relish!

3. If you were going to enter an eating contest what would be on the menu?

Chocolate!

4. Do you run your house more as a dictatorship or a democracy?

You seem to think I run the house! LOL! I think that Hubby and I run a basic democracy.

5. Where was your favorite summer place when you were a kid?

Surf Drive Beach, in Falmouth Massachusetts. This is where I grew up and the beach was a five minute walk from our home.

6. Do you have a guest room? Would you want to stay there?

Yes. And yes. In fact, when we built our home we actually lived in that room, as it was the first one completed!

7. Next Wednesday America celebrates her independence. Do you have any special plans for the 4th of July? If you live outside the USA when and how does your country celebrate its own patriotic holiday?

Oh, I think Hubby and I will probably grill outside some steak? Chicken? Not sure of the main coarse, but grill something. It just isn’t the 4th unless we are grilling.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

The summer has begun and here in New Hampshire, this usually means tourists, traffic and a slow down in getting in and out of shops. So far this year, I have found less traffic, and fewer people are coming up to the lakes. At least our area. I sure hope our area merchants will have a good year so that they survive and do not go out of business. Most especially, the “Mom and Pop” owned businesses.

OMG

What a busy day! I had not planned for it to be so busy, but it just turned out that way. Between Hubby, the dogs and cleaning, I was really out straight.

You see, last night they predicted that we would be having a frost. Since I have 12 potted patio plants I was worried about them. Would they freeze?

So I carried them all into the green house, closed that us, and went to bed. This morning, I carried them all back outside, watered them and noticed that it had not, in fact, gotten cold enough to freeze!

I set about doing all I needed to do and by 3 PM I was quite literally exhausted. It will not be hard to go to bed early tonight, which is good, as I must get up early tomorrow.

Big day on Saturday. I will write about it on Sunday. Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday Fill-Ins

  3. We pulled the dishwasher out, and found the split hose.

  5. We ordered the hose.
  6. It came in record time.
  7. W e replaced the hose.
