Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. How often do you check the weather? How do you check the weather?

Depending on the season once a day. In the winter, more often, because of the possibility of  blizzards. Local news and weather or the Weather Channel.

2. Since this is volume 84 of the Wednesday Hodgepodge, and since I got married in 1984, and since I’m attending a wedding this weekend it only seems right to post something related here.

“Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least. They always continue to grow sufficiently unlike afterwards to have their share of vexation; and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Agree or Disagree. Why?

I actually don’t agree because we have worked hard to keep a happy marriage. I also think it is important to know as much as you can know before you tie the knot! It makes the journey that much easier for the both of you.

3. Do you like to dance? Have you ever taken dance lessons?

I do, but Hubby doesn’t. Some girl told him he couldn’t dance when he was a teenager and I could kick her. On special days he will dance a slow one with me, but that is it. Usually at weddings, I dance with other women, and the children!

4. Fresh from the oven peach pie or home made peach ice cream? Pick one.

Peach ice cream! I’m not really a pie girl.

5. Should people accept unfairness and learn to make the best of it?

Sometimes you have no choice but to accept and make the best of it. I don’t like it, but what can you do!

6. The top five all time summer movie blockbusters (released between May and August and grossing at least 100 million dollars) are-Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars (the original), Ghostbusters, and ET. Which one’s your favorite?

That’s tough. I loved Star Wars, but also loved ET!

7. If given the chance, would you like to visit the moon?

Nope! I like having my feet planted firmly on the ground!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I’ve been watching the series “Sister Wives” on Amazon Prime. Although I know I could never be in a Polygamist marriage, I see this large family and the love they share in this modern multiple marriage. Do you think Polygamy is wrong, or should people be left alone to live their lives the way they wish? Please leave your vote in the comment section.

  1. I’ve seen the show. I think they might be the exception as opposed to the rule when it comes to polygamist families. There are many books out there detailing abuse in polygamist homes and how women had to ‘escape’ from a plural marriage.

My own personal belief is that marriage is between one man and one woman. It’s such a hot button right now that I almost hate to voice my opinion because you’re branded intolerant. I feel like the word marriage should be reserved for one man/one woman. We can find other vocabulary for unions that are something other than that. Just my .02 : )

  2. Not my thing, but if they are happy than, well okay! We need more love in this world! Love YOU, Mel

  3. I agree with Joyce. She said it very diplomatically. Marriage equals one man/one woman for me too. Other unions should be called a different name. But that´s just me. 🙂
I´ve never seen that show before.

  4. I think they should be left alone only because I want MY rights to practice MY religion as I feel I need to – and they should have the same right. Otherwise, yep, I believe in Marriage between 1 man and 1 woman. While the family on TV is actually fascinating, I can’t condone it (though many of the men in the Old Testament of the Bible had multiple wives! but I’m not sure it is how God intended as he only created Adam and Eve)… Lots to ponder 🙂
