Great Day

My day was a full one on Saturday. I felt loved. You see I had my wonderful Hubby, all 8 of the dackels around me, plus several of my friends came to visit.

First my dear friend Alice came over from the great state of Vermont to visit me and the puppies. We had a great lunch, lots of puppy snuggles and enjoyed a lovely day. Here is a short montage from our time together.

Then just as Alice left another friend, who teaches in India, arrived with her pal and two of her kids. They were amazed at the dackels. Makenna and her sister came by, another neighborhood child, Jacqui and then my friend Dori and her boyfriend Bob came for dinner.

I was so busy, that I didn’t dwell on the fact that 24 years ago my life changed forever. Twenty four years ago, I had the worst day of my life, but lived to tell about it. You can read about it here.

No, today I lived. Happily and healthfully. Life was good.

Big Day

It was a big day all around today. It started early because we all know that my little darlings get me up at 5 AM, and after my second cup of coffee, I was awake and watching the TV. I checked my email, but no one is writing me anymore because since my laptop died, I have been a terrible correspondent. I appologize to you all, especially my cousin, Janet!

After I had breakfast with Hubby and fed the pups and walked them, off I went to the fountain of youth for my monthly visit. I came back feeling like a new woman!

As Hubby and I sat having our lunch, Mr. UPS Man arrived with my NEW LAPTOP COMPUTER!!! I forced myself to finish my salad, do the dishes and then walk the puppies again before I even opened the box. Slowly I unsealed the packing tape and slid the inner box out. Then I opened that box, and with trembling fingers pulled the laptop from it’s sleeve! Yes, I am in total heaven!

After I’d been loading things on to it for a while, the puppies woke and we took them outside. One by one we introduced them to Deer Hyde.

The dog who tracked it the fastest was Belle, she just knew right where it was. The others found it too, and enjoyed the game. Here is a video of the event.

You all know that I breed with the hopes that my pups will not only find loving homes, but can be used by hunters to help locate wounded game. All four of these dogs have shown me a good nose. I hope that they will continue to progress in their new homes.

After dinner and another outing with the pups,

I settled in to download programs onto the laptop. Slowly but surely the machine will get set up and I will be back in business!

Now as the day is closing I need to do a little scanning for Hubby before I call it a night, but I am so happy and so excited to have my new machine! (And 4 little deer loving puppies!)

Wednesday Happenings

Hubby is on my “Fabulous” list! Today he ordered me a new laptop. A Toshiba with a 3 year extended warranty! I am so happy as it will be here in one week! Ah, the joy! I can feel my hands trembling at the mere thought of a new laptop!

The puppies are doing great. We had them outside three times today, and they ate like wild beasts when served their food. They’re eating 4 times a day now and the little ones even like drinking water!

My friend brought her 4 year old daughter and 18 month old son over today to see the puppies and Hannah was so sweet with them. Jaden wasn’t quite sure what the big deal was with them, but he patted them too.

Another friend was over tonight with her new boyfriend and we really liked him and got along well. It was a nice dinner party!

Lastly, I know I keep telling you this, but I am so tired. I know I am not the one who had these puppies, but they sure keep me on my toes! Time for an early bedtime, after all 6 AM comes awfully quickly when the puppies will demand their first meal of the day!

A Day In The Life…

I thought you would all enjoy seeing this short video of Ali (Birgit) that we took today. She is so amazingly daring and always on the run when we take the puppies outside.

We also took a few pictures of the pups as they played in the yard. I just love that the weather has been good and we have been able to bring them out at least twice a day. It’s so good for them to develop their muscles!

In other news once again I must tell you that my “new” laptop has died an ugly death. Just two weeks out of warranty, the machine is gone. I mean for real, R.I.P!!! Not coming back, can’t be fixed. I am beside myself that this laptop that is just a year old died. Yep, I have the worst luck with laptops. I know, I know, people tell me to get a MAC, but people I have several hundred dollars worth of computer programs that I use every day that are just not MAC compatible so today is the first day of saving up for a new machine.

Hubby and I put our garden in today. Consequently my back is breaking and a hot bath is now calling my name.

Another Chip Down

Before I tell you about the amazing Dackel Princess Puppies, I want to start by mentioning that my laptop memory chip has blown once again! One second all was well and then “the blue screen telling me to re-seat the memory” came on. I cannot write the words that came out of my mouth, as I would be banned for all eternity on the Internet, but it wasn’t pretty! So, once again I am banished to the office!

Okay, we had all four puppies outside today. They did well, ran around for a while and then came in and slept for two hours! I am hoping tomorrow will be a nice day so we can do it again. You see, my pictures, and my video are on my LAPTOP! (That worthless piece of garbage……) I had them all set up, sized and ready to go when I glanced over at my laptop and found a blue screen with the error message.

So I apologize for not having the promised pictures of my gang. I must begin to repeat “I always must back up my documents every day…I always must back up my documents every day” as I simply do not trust the laptop any more.

Back to the puppies. When they first got put down onto the grass, they froze. Then they each began to sniff and feel the grass. Bogey really liked it and he seemed to start moving around before the others. Soon, Baron tackled him and the two girls played by my feet. Then they were playing and rolling in the grass and Birgit (Ali) decided to be the first one to poop on the lawn! Yes, we are so proud!

After about 45 minutes I brought them all inside, gave them some water and they promptly fell asleep. Anneliese kept going in and staring at them. A few times she even barked at them. And tonight she even nursed them voluntarily! Perhaps they are growing too fast for her too.

I know it’s all going by far too fast for me.

Oh Dopey Me!

I got up today with the best of intentions as today was Weight Watchers day. I dressed, made Hubby breakfast, made a thermos of coffee for me, packed a yogurt and banana and set off.

I got down to the Cadillac,

2004-Cadillac-DeVille

and tossed my pocketbook, and tote into the car and I noticed how hard it was raining. So I thought I would get the newspaper in for Hubby before it got soaking wet.
So, I picked up the paper and when I came back into the garage I closed the door to the car and walked past it to the stairs where I tossed the paper up to Hubby. I turned and walked back to the car and……….it had locked all the doors, with all of the keys inside!
So we called our auto club and they sent out a nice man who came and with a little tool was able to unlock the door. Of course then the car alarm went off and I slid into the car and shut it off.
By then it was 10 o’clock and too late for me to go to Weight Watchers, so I stayed home and just felt dumb! How stupid!

Please tell me I am not alone in doing this!

Time, Keeps Flowing Like A River…

I started off early today snapping pictures. It was sunny and warm in the morning and the bees were working the trees. I grabbed my camera and got these two shots. I’m actually fairly proud of them.

Then I came in and spent a little time watching and playing with the puppies. They just get cuter and cuter!

And then I look at a picture like this and I see how huge the puppies look next to her. Look at this picture taken the day after they were born three weeks ago.

Arnie is doing great and is back to acting like his old self. I’m still giving him his medications, and he is on the rice and chicken diet! Oh yum!

My sister, Mel and my Mom should be here in time for lunch! I can hardly wait.

Life…

Arnie went back today for the last of his medications and hydration. He is like a different dog tonight and I am so pleased with his recovery! I have made him a special pot of chicken and rice food for the next few days and he really likes it.

As I write he is sitting here next to me chewing on his favorite bone, acting like his old self. I think the worst is over and he is on the mend!

The puppies can hear! For those who do not know, puppies are born with their ears fused shut. They are deaf. About the time that their eyes open their ears also open. Today when I went into the puppy room to say good morning, feed Anneliese and weigh the babies, I called out good morning and the puppies all stirred! It was awesome. Later in the day when they were all asleep I went in and clapped my hands and they all responded.

Also on the growth chart was the fact that when Anneliese jumped into the puppy box today the puppies all SAW her and with their eyes followed her to the other side of the box where she lay down and nursed them all.

So many changes in their short lives!

My sister Melodie, and my mother will arrive here on Sunday for three days. I have so many things planned and puppy time is definitely on the program! My sister takes such great pictures that I hope she can get a few of me with my grand-puppies!

My yard is full of beautiful fruit blossoms right now.

flowers

Apples, pears and plums. The Cherries are past and the peaches will be next week. But it is lovely and I have been enjoying the flowers.

My vegetables are also doing well. My seedlings  (cucumber, summer squash, zucchini, and butternut squash), all sprouted and I’ve purchased tomato, eggplant, brussel-sprouts and pepper plants. The green house is just full! I just love the anticipation of July and August vegetables!

Ah yes. Life. Today was a good day. Have a great weekend everyone!

Newspapers, Sneezing and Fat Bellies

Wednesday the local paper printed a story about Anneliese and Isegrim. I am thrilled with the article, the pictures and the fact that it mentions my love of the dachshunds, and breeding for health. If anyone is interested in reading the article, I will send you the link. Just leave me a comment to let me know.

This morning after I cleaned out the newsstand of nearly all their copies of the paper with the story, I came home and felt nearly delirious with a stuffy nose, achy head and stopped up ears. I happened to look out the window and what did I see? Clumps of pollen so large that it almost looked like it was snowing! Ah yes, allergy season!

I went in and sat sniffling next to the whelping box to watch the wonder of the pups. Oh boy, are they cute! They lie on their fat little bellies, nursing up a storm. They are all so big now that they fan out as they eat.

The puppies are just the cutest things ever and even when I am feeling a little down, or (Ah-Choo), full of allergies, these puppies make me smile!

Have a great day and don’t forget to take your allergy medicine! lol!

My 4th Blogaversary!

Just a little note to say that it’s my 4th blogaversary. I’d almost forgotten, what with all the excitement of the puppies! Four years. Wow, that went by fast! I started off wondering if anyone would ever read anything I wrote, and now I have made so many new friends, I am very grateful that I listened to my cousin, Janet and started “The Dackel Princess”.

Cheers!!!
