De-lurking

It’s been brought to my attention, that there are many readers who read, but do not comment. So, every once in a while we have a “Delurking Week”.

The cool kids, like my cousin Janet and Miss Zoot are doing it, so please join us, for what could become an annual event.

Delurking is a time when we beg ask our readers to drop us a comment and say hello. It doesn’t have to be a long comment. Even a Hi! will do. Just so I know you are out there and reading! LOL

So please take a moment and drop me a note!

Thanks!

Can you hear the voices? The voices of all those who were lost to us on September 11th, 2001. I think for a moment in time their pain must have screamed through the universe before they were forever silenced. Men, women and children. Innocent lives. Just people on their way to work, or flying off to see their families or in their final moments saying good-bye into a cell phone to their loved ones.

I sat in my family room that day in shock and filled with horror. What these terrorists did was not spectacular or wonderful. It was sick, and cowardly.

I called all my family that day to make sure they were alright. I cried.

Please go here to learn more about this day. I wrote a longer entry last year for the 5th anniversary of this terrible day. I can’t believe that another year has gone by us.

I hope that, like Pearl Harbor, we never forget all who died for their country, on September 11, 2001 or in the war against terror, since then.

Dackel Princess News

It’s a big day here in Dackel Princess Land. Today two packages arrive from Germany. The first contained all the Pedigrees for Greta’s litter of puppies. Now I can mail these to the new owners of the pups.

Long ago the AKC Pedigrees came, and I was a bit worried that the DTK pedigrees wouldn’t arrive in time for the German Dog Show, however, they did, so now I know I can show the dogs in September at the yearly Zuchtschau.

The other package almost means more to me. It is the German book of dogs, litters, breeders and kennels that the DTK publishes each year. My name is in there, along with the Dackel Princess name. When I think of how proud my Papa would be, it makes me get very emotional. Papa loved America very much, but he held onto his German heritage all of his life. I think he would be happy.

The next item of news isn’t quite as wonderful. My eye exam didn’t go quite as I had hoped. I will be seeing my Retinal Surgeon up here in New Hampshire. I have a little problem with the Vitreous Gel in my eye and this means I need to see him, pronto. You see once you have had a Retinal Detachment, the odds of it happening in your other eye actually does go up. I was able to make an appointment for Monday at 4 PM.

Hubby came in from working outside feeling under the weather. I’ve put him to bed and will try some chicken noodle soup on him in a while.

Fritz, Greta, Arnie and Anneliese are all fine. At the rate we are going, we had better get those Wills changed so that we leave it all in trust for the doggies! LOL!

Happy Friday to all and have a great weekend!

#1000

First, before I write about our day, I must share that this is my 1000th entry on Dackel Princess. I have shared the good, the bad and I hope the funny with you, dear Reader’s. I also hope to share 1000 more. Although some of you might not appreciate that! Hihi!!

**********

Monday was a holiday here in America. Memorial Day. A day set aside to remember all the men and women who have given their lives in military service to our country. It’s a solemn day with parades and prayers. It is also the unofficial start to the summer.

Most families gather for a traditional barbecue. This year we invited my cousin Janet and her Dad, my Uncle George, and our friend Michelle. Emily also came over and joined us for dinner.

The day had dawned bright and sunny. The weather forecasters once again had blown their prediction of gloom and doom for the holiday. We had perfect weather here. 80 degrees, with a light wind and blue skies!

Janet, Uncle George and Michelle arrive about 12:15 and we set out a multitude of appetizers. Shrimp cocktail, chips and dips and Hummus. We sat around the table drinking, eating and laughing.

The two Emilys arrived to play with the pups and to see what we were up to. We really enjoy when the girls stop by and they enjoy playing with the pups!

We began to prepare for our cookout, which would consist of barbecued steak and chicken, corn on the cob, a tossed garden salad and a bean and mango salsa.

Hubby had started the grill and worked hard to cook the chicken and steak to perfection! I can report quite happily that he did a splendid job!

After dinner Janet and Michelle took her dogs for a walk while I cleaned up the kitchen and made some coffee to go with the cakes that Michelle brought with her. When they returned we sat down sipping our coffees and nibbling on the cake.

The day is done now and the doggies are asleep. Hubby and I are watching a Red Sox baseball game.

Yes folks, my 1000th post. It’s been easy to write. We relaxed, we enjoyed and we laughed. Another good day.

Happy Third Blogaversary To Me!!!

Three years ago today I started writing “Dackel Princess“. I didn’t know what I was going to write about, or where writing this blog would lead me, but I knew I wanted to write about my dogs and my life and so “Dackel Princess” was born.

At first my cousin Janet, and my sister, Mel, my daughter, Mandy, and Megan were the only ones who read me. But their encouragement got me going and kept me writing.

You have all learned a little about Hubby and me, about our love for our Dachshunds and our white German Shepherd. You held my hand when Shubi passed away, and again when Greta gave birth to five beautiful puppies this past December.

So thank you everyone, for your kind words and your thoughts and ideas and most of all, here’s to another 3 years!

Nineteen Years

Today is our 19th wedding anniversary. I have spent countless hours trying to put into words how I feel about my loving husband. Then I stumbled across this wonderful poem by Sharon MacFadyen, and her words said everything I was feeling in my heart.

Happy Anniversary, Honey!

A Gift Of Love

Author: Sharon MacFadyen

My gift to you is my love
Given from deep within my heart
It is the best I have to offer
And its yours until this earth we depart

You have captured a part of me
A part so very fragile that I am in fear
For it is my heart I have lost
To you my love, the one I hold most dear

I chose to love you now
With all that I have and all that I am
And I pray that God follows us
To guide our steps as we cross this land

For it is with His blessings
We will live most at peace with each other
For He is the reason after all
We found one another …….. I Love You!

New Toys

The new toys I had ordered for the puppies arrived today. I had gotten an assortment of stuffed animals, bones and balls. After their morning nap I introduced them to their new toys. They went crazy! And so did their mother, Greta.

It’s an amazing thing. Greta no longer looks at them as her kids. She treats them like best pals and she plays with them with wild abandon. It is so wonderful to see the three dogs running around like crazy just enjoying each other.

I had the dogs out a lot today and consequently Arnie began “performing” for me. I now have two good puppies who are getting house trained. I just wish spring would come and it would warm up. It is just a little less thrilling to jump up and drag the pups out when it is 19 degrees outside! Still I am grateful.

The pups, old and young are all asleep now, and I am curled up with a nice warm blanket. Simply a great way to end my day.
