The Friday Five ~ May 5th

The Friday FiveWell, this week did fly by. It started with a trip across the State of New Hampshire which allowed us to see all the flooding that we have had. It’s a ride I used to make often, but haven’t since 2018. Anyway, hold on and here we go with the week’s Friday Five!

  1. Jack is still not free of that dratted Kidney Stone. We saw a specialist on Monday and right now I am trying to get him to drink copious amounts of water. I really do not want him to have surgery.
  2. It was Jack’s birthday yesterday, but he is so ill he cannot eat. He has lost a lot of weight I hope his appetite returns soon.
  3. My little darling, Heidi is doing great on her special food. Apparently, she does have allergies to things in common foods. Thankfully, Purina Veterinary Care Diet works so well for her.
  4. Our Fox has returned after being hidden during the winter.fox 2The Fox is pleasingly plump and its fur looks thick and healthy.
  5. I need to get a pair of sneakers. After being shut in and wearing slippers most of the time during the Pandemic, my old sneakers just do not fit right anymore.

Well, that wraps up my week. This weekend is the usual laundry and cleaning. Have a good one, wherever you are!

The Friday Five ~ April 28th

The Friday FiveQuite honestly, I am glad the week is over. Jack is feeling better and life is moving forward. As Friday dawns on us, here are the things I am happy about!

  1. As I said, Jack is well, and although he is still weak at least the pain is gone.
  2. I’ve been able to keep up with my meal preparations and some laundry. Over the weekend I want to curl up and take some nice naps, as well as finish up the throw rugs, washing and hanging them outside.
  3. Heidi is doing so well on a new dog chow. I am so pleased. I was worried about her, but it seems the worst is over.
  4. I ordered a pack of three doggy toys. They are just like the one that Heidi came to us with, which is her favorite. I gave her one and gave one to Lili. The next thing I knew Heidi had Lili’s toy, her new toy, and her old toy all in her mouth! Oh, it made me laugh!
  5. Yesterday was the 14th birthday of Anneliese’s pups. Baron, Bogart, Baerbel, and Birgit (Ali). All four are still with us. It makes me so happy because I know, I bred good hunters who were also very healthy. All the pups from three litters made it to 14+ years old. And one, Angelika in Greta’s first litter lived until she was almost 15!

So this wraps up another week. I hope you are enjoying the days wherever you may be.

The Friday Five ~ April 14th

The Friday FiveThis week found me attempting to plan to get all my medical appointments in. As it turned out, I was required to do all of this in one day! Wednesday. Which was just crazy! In any case, here we go with this week’s Friday Five!

  1. My first doctor’s appointment was to adjust the prescription for my glasses. That was at 8:00 in the morning on Wednesday.  It did not take long, and soon I was on my way back home.
  2. The next appointment was at noon with my dentist I had no cavities, but I have an infection in a small area on my gums, and will need oral surgery to clean it, and close the area. I asked if this would hurt and the answer was a noncommittal yes.  I will get a date soon for that. Ugh!
  3. My last appointment was at 3:00 and since it was an appointment online I was able to get nice and comfy before starting.
  4. Of course, I needed to make meals and I tried to use up my Easter leftovers. In fact, tonight will be the last meal of Lamb.
  5. Heidi is back on her medication and continues with her special food. She is doing well but will need to rest her gut for a while. While picking up Heidi’s food at the Vat, I met the most adorable mini puppy. It was 5 weeks old and just a pound. I’m not sure I have ever seen a puppy that small, who wasn’t a newborn!

So that’s my week. I hope you all will have a warm, wonderful, and relaxing weekend!

The Friday Five ~ April 7th

Friday FiveHere we are on the first Friday of April. A lot of our snow is melted and in a few places, the grass is just starting to green. So, here is this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I brought Heidi out to the Vet again, but this time it was to get different food for her. She has now gone on food for doggies that may have allergies. So far she not only likes the food, but her throwing up has stopped.
  2. Our taxes are done and will go in the mail tomorrow! Yahoo! I really hate Tax Season.
  3. I’m revisiting the Showtime series “Homeland”. That was such a great series and going back like this you find many things you might have missed the first time.
  4. Today I will be going out to buy food for our Easter/35th Wedding Anniversary. This is the first time since we got married that our Anniversary falls on Easter. The other times Easter fell on this day were 1939, 1944, and 1950. So I am going to make a nice meal complete with lamb, asparagus, and a twice-baked potato. Dessert will be a Strawberry Creme Cake and Champagne!
  5. As the week ends I plan for catching up on a little sleep, a little laundry, and some good home cooking!

So that’s it for this week.  I wish you all a Happy Easter!

The Friday Five ~ March 31st

Friday FiveThis last week in March was a crazy one. In many ways, I felt I simply couldn’t get out of my own way.  I had appointments for Jack and me all week, but it seemed that each appointment brought with it a bit of frustration. Anyway, here goes this week’s Friday Five.

  1. Monday was very stressful. I won’t go into details about it, and in the end, my dermatology appointment was good. No new cancer!
  2. Heidi has become a very good rider and since it is still cold I packed up her crate and she happily slept in the car while we saw our doctor. The windows were down to allow air to go through the car and the parking lot attendant took my number should Heidi need me.
  3. Tuesday was grocery day. I actually enjoy this now. I no longer wear a mask and I can smile at everyone I meet. Best of all, they smile back. It is something I missed during the Pandemic. And perhaps it is one of the reasons so many lost the ability to be kind.
  4. Heidi is doing better. I think that she will need the Science Diet for her sensitive tummy for a very long time. I have my fingers crossed that she will stay well.
  5. Lastly, I had my hair done this week. My hair has been falling out and I have some allergy spots on my scalp too.

    mb2The new cut and color.

So I got a new cut and some new shampoo and I am hopeful that my hair will stop breaking and I won’t end up in my senior years looking like Bozo.

Have a wonderful weekend and wherever you are enjoy the beauty around you!

The Friday Five ~ March 24th

Friday FiveHappy Friday, everyone! It’s been a good week all around for me. I’ve used up nearly a tank of gas, but my running around was fruitful. So here we go with the week’s Friday Five.

  1. I took Heidi in on Tuesday to have an important blood test. My Vet is 21 miles over and 21 miles back. However, I must say that the two Vets there are simply the best in the area and they care about my animals as much as I do.
  2. Last week I’d gone over for the initial workup, and then back for an ultrasound to be sure that my little minx hadn’t eaten anything that got stuck in her stomach.
  3. Today I got the good news. No foreign objects in her tummy. No hernias, and best of all she was tested for Addison’s Disease and she passed it with flying colors, No Addison’s!
  4. So, Heidi is on an ID Diet, which is easier for her to digest.20230315_173113Best of all she loves it. She is back to normal and it appears she was sick with a doggy virus. I am so happy she is all better!
  5. Saturday finds me driving down to see Savi and Quinn. I hope to take them to their favorite place for lunch. One thing I need to do on my way down is to get gas.

So that’s it for this week. I keep hoping that Spring will come. Sadly I had to fill my oil tank once again. My pocketbook sure has taken a hit this winter heating my house. Ah, Spring, please come to us soon!

The Friday Five ~ March 10th

letitsnowThe week sped by as Jack and I struggled to dig out and get the yard all cleaned up for the dogs. Once that was accomplished, we noticed that mud was upon us once again. So here we go, with this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I’ve been trying to cook a bit more. Before the Pandemic, we used to go out once a week. In the last three years, I can count on one hand the number of times we have been out. Thus, my cooking skills have suffered.
  2. I had a network problem with my printer. Before I started making great changes, I checked the connections and found that the wrong Network was checked. Anyway, it was a very easy fix.
  3. My new glasses arrived and the distance vision is perfect. However, the bifocal part is terrible and I cannot see the screen on my computer. I have an appointment at the end of March to have the Optomstrist fix the prescription. Ugh!
  4. I need to drive Jack down for his testing. He is having an echocardiogram and is getting fit for a heart monitor.
  5. Lastly, this is the weekend that our clocks move forward an hour. Ugh! I wished they would set the time and then just leave it alone!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Friday Five ~ March 3rd

letitsnowHere we are. The first Friday in March. I have a feeling that 2023 is going to fly by as fast as 2022 did.  Looking back over the past week, here are the things that have been on my mind.

  1. It seems that every time we turned around it was snowing. I was actually lulled into a false sense of security, thinking Spring was just around the corner when what happened?332378415_720840299573933_441739483305285417_n
Another snowstorm hit us. It was pretty and the day after it was actually nice and we actually had some sunshine.
  2. But then we got hit again on Wednesday into Thursday. More snow. A lot of snow! This snow was deep and sloppy and although Lili loved it, Heidi was not amused.

329632681_1174808839892590_4475537431396399576_nLili is really white, but she looks so cream color when she is against the snow.

    320010438_924040185715127_817108790990452742_n

Neither was I. But what can you do?

  3. Heidi spent most of her time in the house.

    329740862_602315404679545_5029918695993042957_n
When she is up to her ears in snow, she just comes back in as quickly as possible. On days like this, we snuggle a lot. Boy, does she need some stripping of her coat. She is looking pretty scruffy.

  4. And guess what Friday night is bringing us? If you guessed more snow then you would be right. I am going a little stir-crazy here. I just need lots of melting and beautiful sunshine!
  5. Lastly, tonight I am pretty tired. Besides the snow, I managed to get my closet cleaned, my dresser cleaned, and 5 loads of laundry washed, dried, and put away and make some homemade soup. Big week all around.

The Friday Five ~ February 24th

letitsnowLooking back at the past week I am pretty happy with the resolution of all the petty little problems that plagued me during the week. Here we go with this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I cannot begin to say how wonderful it is to have the sink and dishwasher usable once again. I think the best part is, had I had a little more belief in my own abilities, I could have fixed the drain problem. Actually, I was so close to clearing the drain, had I known one little trick, I could have done it. So I will add minor plumbing skills to my list of items I can do. It’s not big, but unclogging a drain can be done!
  2. On Wednesday it was so pretty out my bedroom window, I snapped a picture.2023-02-23_05-28-17

I was happy with a light dusting but…

  3. Just as we had cleared the last bit of muddy snow from the patio, it snowed again and dropped 7-8 inches! Now we have more snow that will be melting and causing more mud! Ugh. I know it is still February, but this year I am ready for Spring. Like, right, now!!!
  4. I was due to drive Jack to Manchester on Thursday for tests, but they actually called on Wednesday and rescheduled his appointments. I felt great relief. I am not a fan of driving in slippery snowstorms. And when I watched our local news they reported many accidents on the local highways. I was glad I wasn’t out there.
  5. Lastly, it is Thursday evening. The snow has stopped for now and our driveway has been plowed. The doggy potty area has also been plowed. And best of all, when the Satelite Dish began to fill with snow I could clear it from the ground and not climb a ladder!

So a busy, yet productive week. I hope wherever you are you are enjoying a few days of fun and relaxation!

The Friday Five ~ February 17th

letitsnow

My week was incredibly busy. And on Wednesday, while attempting to juggle too many things, I dropped the ball and missed a doctor’s appointment. Not like me at all. But here goes my list for this week’s craziness.

  1. After surviving the -20 degree winter cold spell, and learning how to keep my pipes from freezing, I called first thing on Monday to order more heating oil. We took well over 160 gallons and once again my bank account took a big hit. I think it was about $750.00+ for the delivery. However, as much as I detest the price of everything, I do not want either Jack or me to have to sit in the cold and get sick.
  2. So I called for a delivery and not more than 15 minutes later the delivery truck arrived. I asked how he got here so fast. Well, they sent him the info on his truck’s TEXT system!
  3. I ordered myself flowers and signed them from Jack. He always tells me to get myself flowers, so I did, and they are lovely.
  4. On Wednesday, my crazy day, I had a Zoom Meeting at 9 AM, then since I ditched DIRECT-TV Satellite and opted to go for DISH, The Installation man arrived at 10 AM. He worked so hard to get the old dish down for me and put the new one up. I mentioned my advancing age, and climbing ladders in snow storms to clear the dish. Scarry for an old lady. The new dish is installed easily and I can reach it while standing on the ground with a broom to clear snow. I must say that my experience with DISH has been A+++ and I would not only recommend them, but heck I would do a commercial for them if they asked. Better picture, better volume, and more of the channels I want to see!
  5. Lastly, on Wednesday, Heidi was sick all day long. I think it was all the craziness of getting the new Satellite system installed, and then each time she goes out, the new dish scares her. Last night she hid in her bed until midnight. Then I went and brought her into bed with me. She slept soundly the rest of the night.

So that is it for the week. I plan a bit of rest for today and Saturday and then I am off to see Savannah and Quinn in their Community Play, “Seussical”. Savi has the lead and I can hardly wait to see her!
