What Did You Do This Past Weekend?

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

It was a beautiful weekend and the Apple Trees were in full bloom. The Bumble Bees and Butter Flies were out and so was my camera!

May 6 12 024

As you can see, this fury Bumble Bee was zooming in for a little sweet nectar!

May 6 12 041

A pair of Butter Flies also teased me, all over the orchard! But I finally got a few pictures.

May 6 12 046

Look at those antennae?

Then a Baltimore Oriole came and sat in the apple tree outside our bedroom window. I grabbed my larger camera and snap! What do you think?

May 6 12 013

I am so enjoying the spring and now today, I must dress up and go into town and serve Jury Duty. I sincerely hope I will be allowed home each night, and keep up Dackel Princess, but should I be sequestered, I will have Hubby let you all know.

In the meantime, enjoy the day!

Finally…The Sun Returns

On Saturday, the sun returned as well as the warmer temperatures. The apple tree blossoms literally popped open, and the back yard was awash in various shades of pink! It also smelled incredibly wonderful!

May 5 12 007

I walked from tree to tree, noting the various colors of the flowers and the buds. The Empire Apple Tree is just unbelievable!

May 5 12 004

Then I walked further down the row to another apple tree and the buds and blossoms were nearly red!

May 5 12 003

We had the pups outside for a bit and they loved it. After a couple of weeks of rain, they were really happy to be able to run free and stay dry!

May 5 12 012

And I checked the Green House and found all my seedlings are doing well and really like the sunshine!

May 5 12 016

Ah yes! Life is good!!!

Hub’s Birthday

Yesterday on May 4th, Hubby’s birthday, I worked trying to make the day special. I prepared great meals, like my world famous lettuce Wedge Salad, and then for dinner made Maine Lobster, Asparagus, and California New Potatoes.  For his birthday dessert I prepared Flan!

It was not without incident.

The directions for the Flan warned you not to get near the melting sugar, as it is like melting lead and will burn the heck out of you!

If you are sitting there guessing I somehow burned myself with the sugar, you are correct. The sugar got to the top of my finger and under the nail. I am still in pain.

Hubs had no idea I had gotten Lobster, and so he was very surprised. Most of all, he loved the Flan…and so did I!

The day was nice and quiet and calm. A perfect birthday for my guy! I am so happy, I could help him have such a nice day.

Thursday Thirteen

May 6 11 013

Last week I got a question regarding my eyes. So I thought I would go back and fill everyone in on my problematic eyes and where I stand now.

  1. Cataract Surgery, left eye, March 8, 2001
  2. Laser Surgery, left eye, September 2002
  3. Detached Retina, left eye, December 27, 2002
  4. Vitrectomy, left eye, January 16, 2003
  5. Vitrectomy is a general term for a group of operations accomplished in the deeper part of the eye, all of which involve removing some or all of the vitreous—the eye’s clear internal jelly.

  6. Vitrectomy, left eye, April 14, 2003
  7. Vitrectomy, left eye, June 10, 2004
  8. Vitrectomy, left eye, June 14, 2005
  9. Lens Implant Replacement Surgery, left eye, August 22, 2006
  10. Cataract surgery, right eye, May 8th, 2007
  11. Detached Retina, right eye, Dec. 20th 2009
  12. Diagnosed with Macular Pucker (also known as Epiretinal Membrane, ERM) in my left eye.
  13. Slowly a membrane is growing across the left retina.
  14. Soon I will need surgery to remove this membrane.

I can see okay now. I’ll be able to see my grand daughter when she is born, but sometime down the road this surgery will need to be done. One thing is for sure, I am so very thankful for my vision. Many people take it for granted, but not me. Have a wonderful Thursday and go outside at lunch today and enjoy the view!

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. My daughter2 is graduating from university this month and plans to teach elementary school. What are three qualities you most want to see evidenced in a teacher?

Positive energy, kindness and the ability to challenger her students.

2. You can tell a lot about a person by

How they treat their animals, or if in fact they have animals. One person, that I thought was very nice, came to my house, and treated my animals so badly, that it immediately turned me off.

3. What song makes you think spring?

Warm temperatures and blooming fruit trees!!!

4. May 1st is Mother Goose Day…share your favorite nursery rhyme.

In the 1830s, Lowell Mason set the nursery rhyme to a melody adding repetition in the verses:

Mary had a little lamb,
whose fleece was white as snow.

And everywhere that Mary went,
the lamb was sure to go.

It followed her to school one day
which was against the rules.

It made the children laugh and play,
to see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned it out,
but still it lingered near,

And waited patiently about,
till Mary did appear.

“Why does the lamb love Mary so?”
the eager children cry.

“Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know.”
the teacher did reply.

5. What makes someone unforgettable?

Their beautiful soul and the kindness of their spirit.

6. Should music and/or art be part of a well rounded education?

Yes! I’m so sad that so many towns have discontinued these programs.

7. What social situations make you flustered or nervous?

Large groups. I’m fine in small numbers, but in large groups I get very nervous.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

My fever is gone and I am feeling a little better! Yay! The seedlings are sprouting, and the other plants (tomato) continue to grow. One more month and we plant in the garden!

“Springtime”

I woke up on Monday morning sniffling and sneezing, blaming “springtime” allergies. I coughed a bit, and then I noted that my hair hurt. Very odd.

Hubby slept late, and when he got up I made a fabulous breakfast, and we sat drinking coffee and talking.

It was then I decided to go and shower and I mentioned to Hubby how much my head ached and my hair hurt!

And it was then he reminded me that usually hair root pain, means a fever. I sat down and sure enough, I had a fever! Not a big fever, but enough so that I could tell that my seasonal allergies were probably more of a small cold.

So I took some Motrin, wrapped myself in warm clothes and just kind of took the day slowly.

This means I watered my plants, took some pictures of the fruit trees,

April 30 12 006

April 30 12 004

which are doing very well, and also took pictures of my sprouting seedlings.

April 30 12 011

Later I cuddled with Anneliese, who was being so adorable. She was drowsing next to me and I noticed, her little tongue sticking out! I mean that was just too cute!

April 30 12 001

April 30 12 002

She is such a good girl!

What I Did This Past Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

This past weekend I took care of many of the basics in life. I did laundry, cleaned the bedroom and kitchen, and washed floors. I also cooked all our meals and cleaned them up! I am so domestic!

I also worked grooming the dackels. They all needed to have their winter coats stripped down. I put them up on the counter, one at a time and worked for shot periods on each one. Tonight Anneliese is done, but Greta and Arnie still have a ways to go.

More seeds are sprouting in the green house, so far the fruit trees are hanging in there.

This week, Hubby needs to go and renew his license, and we need to register our cars for another year and get them inspected.

Friday is also Hubby’s birthday, and I need to figure out something fabulous to do for that.

What’s your week looking like?

The Seasons

The news from the green house is good today. I have several little seeds that are attempting to sprout up.

April 28 12 003

The tomatoes are also growing (like weeds) and I am relieved by this.

April 28 12 005

However, we are due for well below freezing temperatures and I am still holding my breath.

The trees are so pretty, and when we had the warm temperatures a week ago, the bees were working the blossoms. All it would take now, is one hard freeze and it is over, at least as far as the fruit goes.

I’m not sure many people can understand the loss a farmer feels when he loses his crop. It’s not just personally putting food on his table, but the loss of of putting food on the tables of his community.

Last year we sold over seven hundred pounds of peaches in our community. I still kept plenty to make our jam and give to friends and family.

So, I am praying hard that the Lord will help to spare my trees.
