Cold Temperatures

Currently, it is Friday night and the temperatures are falling. We hope the wind keeps up, or they will bottom out and freeze our crop of fruit.

Hubby is worried and so am I. We look forward to the cherries, peaches, plums and apples, not to mention the Concord grapes. Keep your fingers crossed.

I went into the green house and I’ve closed the windows and checked the temperatures. It should be just fine in there.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. William Shakespeare’s birthday is celebrated on April 23rd…when did you last read Shakespeare? What’s your favorite Shakespeare play?

Romeo and Juliet. It’s the romantic in me, I guess!

2. What food(s) would you recommend a foreign visitor try when they visit your home country?

Either a good old fashioned American Hamburger with Fries, or Lobster with Corn on the cob!

3. What’s a lie you often tell yourself?

That my butt isn’t big! Enough said!

4. What’s something you’re good at that might surprise us? Remember this is a family friendly blog!

You all know I cook, but my first love is baking. As in, bread. I love to bake bread! Unfortunately once baked, I can’t stop eating it, so I had to stop baking it!

5. Who is your favorite animal character from a book?

Lassie. Not only was there a great TV show, but Lassie also was featured in many books. Add to that Bambi and Tigger.

6. April showers bring May flowers…do you have a green thumb?

Only with my vegetable garden. Just about everything else, I kill.

7. Speaking of rainy days…which one of the following activities would you most want to spend time doing on a rainy day-

sort photos and create albums
bake cookies
read a good book
hold an all-day movie marathon
organize closets, cupboards, or bookshelves
try a new recipe
fix something that needs fixing

Of things on that list, it would have to be an all day movie marathon. Sometimes they have NCIS Marathons, and I’ll turn it on while I am cleaning and doing laundry.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

We had RAIN! Finally. This morning the skies have cleared for the most part, and our grass is green. I can see the buds on the trees opening, and soon we will have full lush oaks, and maples and birch trees.

Driers

On Monday I had a lunch date with a friend, but I also wanted to get some laundry done before I went. So I carried the basket down to the basement, and sorted the clothes. I decided to start with Hubby’s ski parka. It said to use a cold wash, gentle cycle. Fine, but all I can say about that is that the spin cycle isn’t hard enough to wring out much of the water.

I tossed the parka into the drier as I left for my date, and never thought another thing about it…

My lunch date was great.A wonderful salad with goat cheese, candied nuts, and craisins, served with a warm raspberry/balsamic vinaigrette. It was also served with a croissant sandwich of bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado. My taste buds are still thanking me!

We talked and talked and talked, and then said good bye. I wanted to drive by the home that burnt down the other day. It’s been really terrible, but we have been having fires almost every day! I think there may be a fire-bug in the area. Certainly all these fires are not coincidental.

It was sad that this old house was burnt down and that four families were displaced.

I arrived home and the drier had stopped. I opened the door to check and it was still wet. I tried to turn on the drier, but it wouldn’t turn on! I checked the circuit breaker, and I thought it was fine, but still no drier.

So I came upstairs to tell Hubby, convinced that we would need a new drier. He went down and showed me I had not closed the breaker correctly and when he did it, the drier worked! He is so talented!!!

(sigh!)

So the day is close to ending and I am thinking I might like a fire in the hearth. A nice way to end the day!

What I Did This Past Weekend

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!

***************

I sort of feel like this past weekend I was catching up with my life. After our vacation, when I was so ill, I did absolutely nothing. This past weekend, I shopped for food, cleaned, and took care of Anneliese.

I also worked in the green house getting seeds started and little tomato plants re-potted. The first part of the weekend it was bright, warm and sunny, but Sunday found the sun gone and misty rain surrounding us.

Hubby and I did our grocery shopping (we do this about every three weeks) and we cannot believe how much food is costing these days. We also had to get gasoline in the car, and well, that sure is depressing! $3.79 a gallon!

We splurged and went out to lunch at a local Chinese buffet! Yay! Great food.

How was your weekend?

Spring

Saturday was planting day. I’m lucky enough to have a green house, so I can start my seeds nice and early. I even found beautiful tomato and green pepper plants and re-potted them in larger pots. Those will remain on my patio all summer. The seeds I planted today, will eventually go into my out door garden. That is, when I am sure we are free of a chance of a frost!

There is nothing more glorious than playing in the dirt, as you plant your seeds!

April 21 12 004

I also re-potted the tomato plants and the pepper plants. They’ll stay in these pots all summer long. My patio is a wonderful spot, where the sun shines all day long.

April 21 12 002

It took me several hours to get this done, and cleaned up. Usually, I start these things a little later in the spring, However, this has been such a warm spring, I am now one step ahead.

My next acquisition will be my Ichiban Eggplants. There are none to be found, as the eggplants are too delicate, but they will be arriving in the garden shops in 2-3 weeks.

When I was done I looked around my yard and saw all the beauty! The trees are blossoming and the bees are working hard.

Have a Happy Spring Day Everyone!

Why I Am Such A Blond

We all know that there are many blond jokes out there. Usually they point to the poor, but sweet, unaware blond, who is victimized by her own stupidity. This is my favorite blond joke.

The blond goes to the doctor because her belly is getting big and she thinks maybe she is pregnant. He assures her that she is, in fact, pregnant. She looks worried and asks, “Is it mine?”

Another One:

What do you call it when a blond dies their hair brunette?
Answer: Artificial intelligence.

And lastly:

There was a blond woman named, Cindy, that was in deep financial problems.
So she got on her knees and prayed “Dear
God, please let me win the lottery. I really need your help or
I’ll loose my car, the house, and everything else.” She doesn’t
win. The next day she prays to God “God! I really really need
your help! I’ll loose my car, the house, and everything else.”
Once again, she doesn’t win. The next day she says the same
prayer; then God speaks to her ” Cindy! work with me here, BUY
A TICKET!!”

Wednesday night our cordless land line phone showed a low battery. Hubby read the instruction booklet and knew we could use a regular rechargeable battery. I had them, so he fixed our family room phone.

Then he wanted to fix the guest room phone, and went in, but could not find the power cord. Where was the power cord?

I went in to the guest room and searched and searched. What had I done with it? Finally, I decided I needed to eat breakfast and calm down. After breakfast, as I walked down the hall to return the guest room, I saw a cord sitting on the dining room table!

Oh, I felt like such a blond. I had no idea how the cord got there, and when I handed it to Hubby, he asked that fateful question. “Where was it?” It was in that moment that I simply had to admit…”Honey, you know when I go and visit Margarita and get my hair colored?” he nodded. “Well, under this brown hair, I’m really a blond!”

He is still laughing!
