Yesterday, Dick Clark passed away. To millions of Americans he was the man who brought us musical acts each week. Dick Clark made us all feel alive and happy and full of fun! I remember watching his show and learning all the new dances.
A few years back, Barry Manilow wrote a song about Dick Clark and American Bandstand. It brought back so many memories of my youth I promptly memorized every word.
So, so long Dick Clark. May you rest in peace, and may the Angels sing when you enter through the pearly gates!
1. Spring is in the air (at least in my neck of the woods) and the birds are singing…what’s your favorite bird?
Locally, the Loon. It is a beautiful bird and their calls are haunting. They are excellent parents with their little chicks, allowing them to sit on their backs while they cruise the lake.
2. Speaking of birds…do you tweet? If so tell us your screen name and we’ll come flocking to your Twitter site. Even if you don’t let’s all pretend here that we do-in 140 characters or less, sum up your week so far.
I did for a while, but I don’t have the time for that.
3. Its been reported recently that employers are not only viewing the facebook pages of potential hires but they’re also requesting your facebook password to have a look at what you’ve kept from public view. What say you?
I do not believe that the potential employer should be allowed to view you page, or to have your password.
4. It’s April and you know what that means-Major League Baseball is back in action. What’s your favorite baseball movie? If that’s too hard, what’s your favorite sports themed movie?
Fever Pitch! C’mon, what Red Sox fan doesn’t just love that movie?
5. Something else this season brings-asparagus. Yes please or no thanks? If it’s yes please what’s your favorite way to have it prepared?
Yes! I love it every way it can be fixed, but Hubby just likes it steamed.
6. What drives you? (Don’t you love how I sandwiched that one in between asparagus and jugglers???)
The commitment I made to my family. Both human and furry!
7. April 18th is International Jugglers Day…can you juggle?
If you mean can I juggle oranges? No. Can I juggle three different programs, clean my house, and make meals, yes!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
When I came home on Tuesday morning after dropping Anneliese at the Vets, the other three dogs were all upset. Hubby as well. I’m a wreck, but deep in my heart and soul, I know it is best for her health.
Monday was a beautiful day! It was hot though, (89F), which made me ask Hubby if we could get the air conditioner in the kitchen installed for the summer. He agreed, so now we have two of our five air conditioners installed.
I remember when we planned our home, we didn’t think we would need air conditioning. I’m not sure why I thought this, but were we wrong!
The first summer we lived in the house, I remember taking our meals on tray tables into our bedroom, where we had our only air conditioning unit!
The following springtime, we purchased window units for the rest of the house, lest we melt during the summers.
I was busy around the house and then after lunch Hubby asked for help turning the garden. I pulled on my bathing suit and sneakers, topped that off with a baseball cap and out I went. Two things occurred. Some sort of bug was nibbling on me and I was getting tired very fast. After 15 minutes I stopped to get something to drink and then after another 15 minutes, Hubby and I were done.
I showered, and came out in my pajamas to fix Hubby and I dinner. Dinner was okay, and now I have collapsed in my chair!
Please say a little prayer for Anneliese, as today she is undergoing her spaying.
Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend! After all, you never know when you will need an alibi!
***************
This past weekend was actually a fairly interesting one. Since it was the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of Titanic, I watched shows a great deal of the day on Sunday, about the ship, the people who built it, and the people who survived. It was quite interesting to know that Mr. Ismay, who designed the ship, took a spot in a life boat and survived. After that he was ostracized by his contemporaries. (Ah yeah. What was he thinking? Women and children first!)
I also watched several movies over the course of the weekend. I watched “Life As We Know It”, “The Blue Collar Comedy Tour”, “Anatomy Of A Murder”, and “Bridesmaids”. Hubby and I started making a list of movies we can watch for free on Amazon Prime. The list is getting rather long. Hooray!
I did some laundry, cooked some meals, and it seems I slept a lot. I’m still not 100% and I tire easily.
I had a report to write, and that took 3 hours. I wish I could write fluidly, but I simply cannot. Three hours and four pages later and I was done.
It’s a busy week I have coming up. Tomorrow, Anneliese will be spayed. When I pick her up, in the afternoon, Fritz will get his blood work done. Wednesday, depending on how Anneliese is, I will go to Weight Watchers. Thursday a friend of mine is having a meet and greet as she runs for reelection for her state seat, and Friday the weekend starts all over again!
Saturday I was happy to find, when I woke up, that all three dackels were magically cured of their sore bottoms! In fact, it seemed they had no recollection of the ordeal, and they were running around like crazy puppies!
After breakfast, I started working on my paper. Four long pages! It took me three hours. I sure wish I could compose quickly, but I really don’t. So I hung in there, and eventually I got it done, and I just hope it makes sense.
I made Hubby nice meals for lunch and dinner, as he has been working outside on our patio. We have cement blocks out there for the decking, and after 12 years we have so many cracked and just totally crushed blocks. You see, in the winter we have snow and ice, and it all freezes. Then we have some warmer temperatures and it thaws and then it freezes again. That is murder on the blocks.
After my paper was done, I splurged and put on several movies. Nothing I really sat down and and watched, but movies that I know and can listen to and not lose my place.
I also participated in a political survey. They claimed it would only take me 15 minutes. An hour later, I was done!
Sunday I have major cleaning to do. So I am thinking I will be putting on some music and getting out my bucket of cleaning supplies! Oh yeah, love, love, cleaning…NOT!
Friday was the day that I returned to the Vets for the dackels booster shot against Lyme Disease. They love to go and try to chase down any other dog that happens to be in the office, and today it was a baby Chihuahua! It was so cute, but to the dackels it resembled a rat! I held tight and we got into a room before little Zoey the Chihuahua was eaten alive!
The doctor was sweet and gave eat dog a cuddle before their last shot of the year. Both Greta and Arnie squealed, but Anneliese was brave.
However, by the time I got home and fixed lunch for Hubby and myself, there was an uncomfortable quiet in the house. I tried to pat the dackels, but Arnie cried and started to shake. Greta came up on the sofa and she began to shake and fuss. Anneliese just lay on the little dog bed. This is not normal around here, Usually, we have dackels sitting on the back of the sofa barking at the birds, people walking down the street and leaves blowing!
Sitting on the love-seat, I couldn’t move, lest I woke the dogs, so I closed my eyes and when I opened them, it was an hour and a half later! Nice nap
I had to go out quickly and get the mail, and also go to the grocery store and get some dish soap. For the last 5 days I have gone to the store intending to get the soap, and forgetting every time! I was talking with my sister on the phone, and thankfully, she reminded me!
Anneliese will go in on Tuesday for her little surgery to be spayed. I had thought long and hard about it, but in the end, I decided that Anneliese needed to be retired and just enjoy her life!
1. Speed kills, so slow down when you’re driving in bad weather.
2. My first grand daughter is what I’ve been looking forward to!
3. One of the things I like most about traveling is seeing new places.
4. My dogs makes me think I am well loved!
5. A road trip to my sister’s house would be fun
6. chicken casserole is what I had for dinner last night.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to cooking a real meal for Hubby, tomorrow my plans include laundry and writing my report and Sunday, I want to read the Sunday newspaper and make Hubby a nice meal!
Lightly spoon flour into a dry measuring cup; level with a knife. Place flour, salt, dried marjoram, dried thyme, and dried rubbed sage in a shallow dish. Dredge pork in flour mixture, turning to coat; shake off excess. Reserve remaining flour mixture.
Melt butter in a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium-high heat. Add pork to pan; cook 2 minutes on each side or until browned. Reduce heat, and cook for 10 minutes or until done, turning pork once. Remove pork from pan; keep warm.
Combine reserved flour mixture and milk in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk until blended. Add milk mixture to pan; place over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, scraping pan to loosen browned bits. Reduce heat, and simmer 2 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Serve with chops.
I’ve been wondering what to write about today. What can I come up with for a Thursday Thirteen, that is reasonably coherent? I have nothing, so I will simply spit things out and hope something makes sense…
I have gone to Weight Watchers since I got sick and either stayed the same or lost very little.
Which is totally crazy, because I am still not eating or drinking much.
Which convinces me that I am one of the chosen few, who could survive a nuclear war.
Yes, with no water or food, I could probably make it a year!
Of course, all during this time, my hair has been growing like crazy.
After 5 weeks, I have nearly half an inch if gray hair that needs to be covered!
Can anyone explain this to me?
Today I actually will get my hair done.
That always makes me feel at least a little better.
1. Have you ever played golf? Any interest in playing? Do you have a significant other who loves to play? Did you watch The Masters this past weekend?
We did watch The Masters. Neither one of us play golf. A friend of Hubby’s tried to teach me, but proclaimed I was hopeless. So I ended up caddying for him!
2. Hats are back in fashion this spring…how do you feel about wearing a hat? (fyi-I’m not talking baseball caps) When was the last time you wore one?
My daughter looks great in them, but I never have. It has been many years since I wore one.
3. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 meaning proficient and 1 meaning “I’d starve”, how adept are you at using chopsticks?
I used them just last night. And I am quite adept. I can even pick up a pea!
4. Has technology taken over?
Yes. Which is why, despite the fact that we love our laptop computers, I try to live a low tech life.
5. In the course of a day how often do you look in a mirror?
Not often enough. Lately I’ve been catching glimpses and think, “girl you have to style yourself” or at the very least, comb my hair!
6. Tulip or Daffodil?
Tulips. I love the the fact that you can have many different colors of tulips.
7. I am proud of myself for staying with Weight Watchers all these years I still need to finish it off, and then maintain, but when I decided I was in it for the long haul, that wasn’t an easy thing. But I have done it and I am still down 50 pounds!.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Hubby and I had a love Anniversary dinner last night. Sweet and Sour Calamari, Mussels in White Wine, and salads! Mmmmm! It was such a nice way to spend our Anniversary meal.
