Newspapers, Sneezing and Fat Bellies

Wednesday the local paper printed a story about Anneliese and Isegrim. I am thrilled with the article, the pictures and the fact that it mentions my love of the dachshunds, and breeding for health. If anyone is interested in reading the article, I will send you the link. Just leave me a comment to let me know.

This morning after I cleaned out the newsstand of nearly all their copies of the paper with the story, I came home and felt nearly delirious with a stuffy nose, achy head and stopped up ears. I happened to look out the window and what did I see? Clumps of pollen so large that it almost looked like it was snowing! Ah yes, allergy season!

I went in and sat sniffling next to the whelping box to watch the wonder of the pups. Oh boy, are they cute! They lie on their fat little bellies, nursing up a storm. They are all so big now that they fan out as they eat.

The puppies are just the cutest things ever and even when I am feeling a little down, or (Ah-Choo), full of allergies, these puppies make me smile!

Have a great day and don’t forget to take your allergy medicine! lol!

My 4th Blogaversary!

Just a little note to say that it’s my 4th blogaversary. I’d almost forgotten, what with all the excitement of the puppies! Four years. Wow, that went by fast! I started off wondering if anyone would ever read anything I wrote, and now I have made so many new friends, I am very grateful that I listened to my cousin, Janet and started “The Dackel Princess”.

Cheers!!!

Just Plain Adorable!

Tuesday was a beautiful day. Sunny, warm and I accomplished a lot. I completely cleaned the puppy room, top to bottom, played with each puppy, and then did the same big cleaning job in my kitchen. Everything is lovely and smelling fresh!

When I went in to play with the babies this morning, I first picked up Baron. He was full from just having eaten, and was sort of sleepy.

May 12 026

Soon, Greta and Arnie came in to check out what was happening. They sniffed and sniffed and eventually moved along.

May 12 027

I got an adorable picture of Birgit today. She was very active and has been chasing her mother around the whelping box trying to get milk! I think she is going through a growth spurt…again!

May 12 Birgit21

Baerbel, is a happy girl before, during and after each meal. I held her while I was reading and she snuggled down and was happy in my lap too. She is so pretty!

May 12 baerbel24

Bogart is so very strong. Now that his eyes are wide open he often takes walks around the whelping box. He is a happy fellow and a real joy!

May 12 bogie2

I did have one scare today. I had taken Anneliese out into the back yard to do her wee-wee. She was sniffing around, enjoying the sunshine, when the bad black Labrador from the next street showed up and went after her. This dog gets along well with other big dogs, but he just doesn’t like the small ones.

Anyway, I was screaming, Anneliese was barking and yelping at the same time, and then, out of no where Fritz came running and knocked the Lab to the ground and ran him off! Our hero!

I’ll end with this short video.

The Eyes Are The Window To The Soul

I woke up on Monday morning and went and let two of the dachshunds out in the yard. Then I went in to say hello to Anneliese and her babies and weigh the puppies.

I picked up Mr. Yellow and he looked me right in the eye! Yes, his eyes had opened overnight!

May 11 009

I do have another little piece of news about Mr. Yellow. Instead of being called Bernie, his new owners are going to call him Bogart! So Bogie it is! I love it! Somehow that name just suits him perfectly!

As usual, Baron was being a ham! He was lounging in the whelping box rolling around winking at me and I swear I saw a smile! He is quite the ladies man already!

May 11 015

You may notice on the photo below, that Birgit is the darkest of the puppies. She is absolutely beautiful. Her eyes are open even more than this now, but I liked this picture of her because you can really see her coloring.

And last but not least Baerbel. What can I say? Well, perhaps that she is one feisty chick! Yesterday I trimmed everyone’s toe nails and she wiggled and squirmed and made me laugh. At two weeks old, she is one very strong girl!

I cannot believe how fast this is going. Before you know it they will be running around, jumping around, and then off to live their lives in their new homes.

Puppy Love

Mother’s Day was a nice slow paced day. Besides doing several loads of puppy laundry, we enjoyed the company of Mandy and her M. It’s just plain fun when my daughter and her fellow come up for a visit.

We cooked on the grill, sat around the table eating and talking and laughing. It was fun!

I also spent part of the day enjoying the puppies. Today’s pictures are of Birgit. I had her in my lap enjoying her and cuddling.

Oh, how special that was. The little girl, snuggled in my arms! How sweet!

May 10 009

Then, out of the corner of my eye I saw something that made me laugh.

Do you see it?

Yes, Arnie came in to check out the puppies. He wasn’t quite sure what they were, but he didn’t seem to mind them.

Have a great week everyone!

Puppy Breath

First of all, Happy Mother’s Day to all of you out there that are “Moms”! It’s our day, so kick back and enjoy it.

Saturday found us catching up on the real life chores around the house. Hubby mowed the grass, and trimmed the edges with the trimmer, while I watered our green house plants, and tidied the place, all while doing the laundry and whipping up meals.

It’s funny how four little creatures can so rock a routine. I admit to being forced to sit and stare at them. What you mean, I’m not forced to do that? Well, I like to follow the “life is too short, and we have to stop and smell the puppy breath” life motto, right now. It is so wonderful to hold those chubby little bodies in my hands and have them nuzzle me. How wonderful is that!

Today’s Stars are Birgit!

May 9 003

And Bernie!

May 9 004

Also on Saturday we met the new owners for our last pup, Bernie! He will be going to a great home in Maine with two terrific people! They stopped by to hold him and take pictures. It was so much fun to see them with him.

So for all of you that doubted my ability to say good-bye to all the pups, you will be happy to know that I have found good homes for each and every one of my babies.

It’s a nice feeling.

Getting Bigger

It was a rather busy day for me today. I had errands to run, a doctor’s appointment and meals to cook. In the interim I managed to snap a few pictures of our growing puppies.

May 8 009

I love this one because Baron is sticking his little tongue out. He does that a lot. Proving that he really is a chow hound!

May 8 001

Can you see how much bigger Baron is than the rest of them?

May 8 015

Okay, I guess this is the Baron picture day. He just seemed to be posing more than the others.

May 8 003

Bernie did get in on things and he posed for this cute shot.

May 8 baron

Is this dog a picture ham or what?

May 8 018

And lastly, we introduced Arnie to his sister’s puppies. He was amazed that she had somehow produced these little rats!

The Babies Are Growing

I noticed today that the pups are getting more active, and we also noticed that their eyes no longer appear to be completely fused shut. I would bet this means that by the weekend we will have some beautiful eyes opening up to the world.

Their ears have grown and their noses too, and they are starting to resemble their dackel ancestors.

They eat in a manner that can only be described as wild. At least Baron does. He is the largest and he really chows down!

I also took their pictures individually and tagged them, so you would know their little faces and their names.

Now aren’t those just the cutest faces?

Have a great day everyone, and a wonderful Mother’s Day Weekend!!!

The Joy!

Wednesday I spent quite a bit of time with Anneliese and the puppies. It was so much fun to climb into the whelping box and hold the puppies, while I patted Anneliese. She was so cute. I think she is very proud of her litter, and she certainly should be.

May 6 018

They are happy, healthy, squirming little babies, with fat bellies!

May 6 019

While holding them, they tried to nurse my hand and they would snuggle against me.

May 6 020

Hubby came in with me and we took turns taking pictures.

May 6 016

Just look at this face!

May 6 017

In just a few more days their little eyes will open. I can hardly wait!

May 6 015

In other news, I planted my cucumber and squash seeds today, re-potted my tomato, eggplant and brussel sprout plants, and got the green house cleaned up and organized.

Also a little note to my cousin. I love you, sweetie and I’m wishing you all kinds of good luck!

Nursing Babies

Time is slipping by so fast and the puppies are growing. They have all doubled their weight and have the cutest fat bellies! It makes me so happy.

Anneliese is starting to spend just a little time away from them. She will ask to come sit with us, then come out for a few minutes before wanting to go back. I think she misses us.

Ah yes, life is good.
