Thirteen Things From My Week

1. I saw “Juno” and as I said the other day, go see it. Oprah had some of the cast on today and she says this movie is a must see!
2. More snow. I think we will be having record breaking snow totals this year. As much as I love snow, enough is enough!
3. Had the flu. That was good for two days of doing almost nothing but watching mindless TV and sipping water.
4. Sang to my cousin on the phone so she could tell me the name of the song going around in my head. (All The Young Dudes) She is still laughing about that!
5. Played with the dogs. They are so much fun and I love them so much!
6. I managed to cook meals for Hubby all week. He said they were great. Now that I am slowly starting to eat again I will have to recook some of these new Weight Watchers recipes and see if that’s true.
7. I weigh in tomorrow night for the second time. I hope I do okay. I didn’t cheat, but I wasn’t able to eat much either.
8. The box finally arrived for me to send my laptop in for repair with. Everyone say a little prayer that this time “The Company” will actually fix my little machine!
9. I’ve learned that I really do love my laptop. I’m spoiled, I know. But sitting in my recliner, with my laptop and writing when I feel like it, is so nice. I enjoy that. Being in our office only reminds me that it’s almost tax time and I need to start getting files together!
10. The New England Patriots football team won their game last weekend and I can hardly wait for the next game this weekend!!!
12. I watched “The Lake House” again for probably the 10th time. I just love that movie. Yes, I am a hopeless romantic!
13. Oh yes, and I am still waiting for Greta to go into heat. She is a stubborn girl and will do it when “SHE” feels like it!

Hope your week was a good one!

The Flu

I had a Flu shot this year, and sure enough, I have not gotten any respiratory Flu. However, two nights ago, “The Stomach Flu” came upon me in the night. It wasn’t pretty!

I went to bed feeling great, just tired and woke up about 1:30 sicker than a dog! Yesterday I slept a lot and just lay around the house. I wasn’t able to eat or drink much of anything with positive results.

I woke this morning and for about 30 seconds thought I was better. Ha! All it took was one sip of coffee and that ended any good feeling that my stomach started the day with.

I wonder why it is that they can’t seem to make a flu shot that covers the stomach flu? It would be so much better if they did.

Oh well, for now I will sit with my blanket and lap full of dachshunds and pray for recovery.

On the bright side, I bet I’ll do well at Weight Watchers this week!

A Broken Heart

We got a call today. It’s the sort of call you never really want to get. It was the owner of our little deer tracking puppy, Anja. He called to tell us that yesterday morning Anja had been hit by a car and killed.

I remember the first time I held her in my hands.

Dec 10 018
And what a fine puppy she grew into before our eyes.
Jan 7 Anya

I will remember her long floppy ears, and her beautiful reddish colored coat. I’ll remember the way she snuggled in my arms and the sadness I felt the day she left me for her new home. I’ll also remember how proud I was of her and of her new owner when their tracking wounded game began to help our community.

Oh the best of days is when these precious animals come into our lives, and the saddest is when we have to say good-bye.

Good-bye dear Anja. Grand-mummy loved you very much and I will never forget you!

Juno

Hubby and I went to see this charming movie on Friday. Make no mistake, it is dealing with a difficult subject (teen pregnancy), but the film offers hope in a way I didn’t think was possible. The acting was superb, the writing and directing were outstanding. We laughed, we cried and we fell in love with Juno and her friends and family.

For those who have a chance, go see it. If it is not near you yet, you can preview the movie here and here.

I think many mothers of teenage daughters might worry about allowing their girls to see this, but I must say, take them and then allow the movie to open a dialog between you and your daughter about the emotional and physical changes that occur from an accidental teenage pregnancy. It just may help you to start a conversation on a subject that many people find hard to talk about, and also help your daughter to avoid a pregnancy when she is not mature enough to handle the results.

I cannot remember seeing such a wonderful movie in a very long time. Take your daughter, your sister or a friend. (In my case, Hubby came with me, and he loved the movie too!) You will not be disappointed!

PS: I was trying to remember the name of the song that is sort of the theme song of this movie. (All The Young Dudes, by Mott The Hoople) It was making me crazy, not being able to remember it. Finally I called my cousin, Janet and sang and hummed the part I could recall. She is a genius! She remembered it right off and solved the mystery! Thanks, J!

My Laptop (sob!)

Friday afternoon my beloved laptop returned from the repair facility in Tennessee. I took the box from the DHL delivery man and held it close. A cry of sheer delight escaped my throat! Oh to be able to sit in my chair with my feet up and write dazzling entries for you all to read on my blog again!!!

My hands shook as I opened the box and I could feel my breath come in short gasps as I plugged her in at my little desk in the family room. But…

NOTHING HAPPENED!!!

There was no power light, there was no A/C surging into my little machine! (sob!) I checked another power chord and that didn’t work either.

NOTHING!!!

So I tried Hubby’s power chord from his laptop, and for about 15 minutes we had power to the machine, before even that did not work. The power completely died!

However, while the power was on I ascertained a few things.

1. Whatever they had done had caused the drivers for my screen to depart and so the picture on it is distorted.
2. There had never been continual power to this machine because the battery was nearly dead!
3. The machine still didn’t work, so I am doubtful that they ever did anything to actually fix it!
4. I will never buy another machine from this “company” as long as I live.

I called to Hubby, who was working in the basement on some of his tools. He came up and I explained what was happening. He knew I was upset by the high pitched crying, I am sure!

He got all the paper work out and called “the company” again. The man informed us that they had fixed the machine. (I would tell you what I screamed in the background, but I am a lady and we do not use that sort of language, generally.)

Hubby was calm, patient and quietly read the gentleman the riot act before we were given the news that my sweet, little, broken down Laptop will have to go back to Tennessee for “further repair”.

The DHL man will be here on Monday (Ha! we are due for a snow storm!) to pick her up.

And I am back in the office on the desktop!

Happy Anniversary Uschi

(Scroll down for Saturday Scavenger Photo)

My dearest friend and sister in my heart, Uschi and I are celebrating our 7th anniversary of friendship. It isn’t often that you meet someone in life that shares so much with you. Although we are separated by an ocean, we have been there for each other through the good times and the sad times and always, always we give to each other the comfort and support that only best friends can give.
So Happy Anniversary to us, dearest, Uschi!!!

Six Pounds and Two Ounces Lighter!

I’ve just returned from my meeting at Weight Watchers. I got there early because I was so nervous and I just wanted to get weighed in. I entered the room and removed my coat and shoes and went over to the check in area. Slowly I stepped up on the scales and winced.

“Well? What did I do?” I asked, my voice cracking.

“Six pounds and two ounces!” she responded.

“Lost or gained?” I asked.

She just laughed and I knew that I had done it. I had made it through the first week and actually lost the weight. I know it won’t be like this every week, but I’m in this for the long haul!

Primary Colors

Many of you know we live in New Hampshire. The state where the first Primary for President is held every four years. Yes, we are first and proud of it! Some of the other States here in the USA think they should be first, but come on guys, we’ve been first, forever and it’s just poor sportsmanship to change that now.

On the other hand I want to tell you what life has been like the last week here in our New Hampshire home.

The phone rings at least 4 times a day with polls. Tonight, the night of the election they are computerized polls, but in the last few weeks we have been polled by Rasmussen, the Gallop Pole, ABC, NBC and our local ABC affiliate. We’ve been called by all the top candidates organizations and given long lists of questions to answer.

Many people hang up the phone, but most of the time Hubby and I will answer the questions. After all when your State is first in the nation for a Primary, you have certain obligations.

Just for fun we watched the movie “Primary Colors” the other day. The acting is great and it will show you what these people are willing to do to get elected! Scary!

Anyway, we voted today and by 8 o’clock tonight it will all be over…for another 4 years anyway.

Thanks for the memories!!!
