Psycho Dog

Okay, I’m crazy. I know that now. I mean anyone who has 4 dogs definitely has a screw loose, but to take ALL 4 dogs to the Vets, well I think that makes me certifiable!

The puppies needed their last boosters today and Fritz and Greta needed their heart worm checks and their shots. So what they heck, I didn’t think it would be all that tough. You know, put them all in the car and go.

This would have worked well had we either not had Fritz with us, or perhaps drugged him! He was terrible! I’m not sure why. I mean, at home he is the sweetest, gentlest German Shepherd that we have ever had,

but put him near a car or in a car and he becomes “Psycho Dog”!!!

Hubby came with me today, so at least I had strong arms to hold our 77 pound boy down and to walk him to and from the car. Thank God! I really couldn’t have done it without him. The girls, and Arnie were Angels! But then, I think that dachshunds are all Angels!

Everyone had their exams, their shots and we are all set for the tick and flea and mosquito season. I don’t have to bring Fritz in until September for his rabies shot. I think then we’ll get a large dose of tranquilizers.

For me!

Nineteen Years

Today is our 19th wedding anniversary. I have spent countless hours trying to put into words how I feel about my loving husband. Then I stumbled across this wonderful poem by Sharon MacFadyen, and her words said everything I was feeling in my heart.

Happy Anniversary, Honey!

A Gift Of Love

Author: Sharon MacFadyen

My gift to you is my love
Given from deep within my heart
It is the best I have to offer
And its yours until this earth we depart

You have captured a part of me
A part so very fragile that I am in fear
For it is my heart I have lost
To you my love, the one I hold most dear

I chose to love you now
With all that I have and all that I am
And I pray that God follows us
To guide our steps as we cross this land

For it is with His blessings
We will live most at peace with each other
For He is the reason after all
We found one another …….. I Love You!

Fish Sticks & French Fries

Last night I made fish sticks, french fries and spinach for dinner. It was so excellent! I have to say, I really like a good fish stick. It brings back all those wonderful memories of lunchtime on Fridays during grade school. You know me, I was the kid who never complained about the lunch menu.

Sloppy Joes, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese with a hot dog or that old standby, American Chop Suey! Looking back I don’t think I ever complained until my mother forced me to switch to a bag lunch. Then I was forced to eat tuna sandwiches or worse yet, a cheese sandwich. Yes, plain cheese. American cheese with no butter or mayonnaise.

So there I was with my fish sticks, with lots of tartar sauce, fries with ketchup and the vegetable portion, which I forced myself to eat because, well I’m an adult, after all, right? I was savoring each and every bite when Hubby says something about this being the worst fish and chips he’s ever had. Well, they’re not supposed to be fish and chips, mate they’re fish sticks.

Apparently Hubby doesn’t have the same attachment to his Elementary School cafeteria that I do. I swear, he actually looks at food for it’s nutritional value! Me? I get butterflies in my stomach when I so much as come near an Elementary School cafeteria and smell the wonders of my past. Even a little carton of milk brings a tear to my eye.

Oh the memories!

Lap Dogs

I’m finding that I have less and less time to write. Why? Well, it isn’t because I am running around all the time after the puppies, it’s more because they have now learned to climb the little doggy stairs I got for a very pregnant Greta a while back, and they now monopolize my lap. Why, I’m lucky if I can put my feet up in the recliner anymore.

I have to sneak in these little sessions on the computer. Like right now. I have tossed rawhide bones onto the floor, and gotten them playing together.

I don’t mind this, really. I just miss my “thinking” time. You see when I write for Dackel Princess I sit with my laptop in my lap and think, watch TV, think some more, watch a little more TV and then put down my thoughts. Now, I have to quickly write without watching TV. Shoot. Some of my best entries have been inspired by “All My Children”, “Everybody Loves Raymond” or perhaps even “House”.

I almost just put on another video of the dogs. However, I decided not to take the easy way out and actually use my mind. I hope this was okay.

If not let me know and I’ll post the video. (It’s really cute!)

Puppy Pediatrician Day

It was baby day at the Puppy Pediatrician’s today. The puppies went to the Vets for their booster shots and check ups. Arnie weighed in at a whopping 12 pounds and Anneliese was 9 1/2 pounds. She is the petite one.

The puppies were examined by Dr. Chris, who was the Vet who delivered them back in December. For a variety of reasons, we haven’t seen him since then. We usually see his wife, Dr. Julie or their associate, Dr. Rich. He was really happy to see these two and enjoyed the play time during their examinations. Both came through with flying colors, and were given their shots. They got their flea and tick medications for the season and they got their heart worm medications as well, and then we were out of there.

I had to go and get the mail before we came home and naturally I brought the puppies into the Post Office with me. They are mini celebrities in my little home town. It was a light mail day and then I came home. I walked the pups, and when I came in they both went over to their room and wanted to go in. I put them inside and the next thing I knew, they were both sound asleep.

The exhaustion lasted about 2 hours and now they are back to their usual puppy selves. It’s great to see them running around having a good time.

PS: Shhhhhh. Don’t tell Arnie, but he actually made my day today when he pooped outside for the first time. I’m so proud!

Rainy Days And Mondays

Rain.

Do you know how tough it is to house train puppies when it is raining? Especially when those very same puppies do not like being wet!

Monday it rained almost all day. I kept taking Anneliese and Arnie out with hopes of great things, and with Anneliese I got pretty good results, but with Arnie, well, not so much. He looks at me with those big raisin eyes, that question me, as if he is saying, “Now what do you want from me?” I try to be patient, I walk around and around, but no luck. I bring him in, put him on the newspaper and immediately he goes. I’m starting to think he enjoys reading while he poops!

Dog

I believe Anneliese will be trained long before my boy Arnie. Oh well, he is a sweet boy even if he is a little bit of a dumb bunny! Will someone pass the comic section of the newspaper….

We bought the dachshunds a new bed. The circular one we had before is on it’s last legs. I recently washed the cover and noticed that it was just about thread bare. The puppies aren’t quite sure what to do with the new bed. They dive into it with wild abandon and roll around against the plush cover. Even Greta likes the new bed and currently we are leaving the bed out in the family room for her. After all, being a mother earns her a certain place on the doggy totem pole.

Speaking of Mommy Greta, someone asked me if I intended to show Greta now that she has been a Mommy. I had to laugh and remind them, that although there are many beautiful Mommies out there, after they have had 5 big babies you usually don’t want to enter them in a beauty contest with a swimsuit competition! LOL
