Is She? Or Isn’t She?

Okay gang, today is the day! I take Anneliese in at Noon for her exam. Hubby proclaims that she is not pregnant, but I am still holding out hope that she has little biscuits in her oven! (Puppies in the belly)

It is 38 days now since she was bred. The puppies should be large enough to see (I think) and definitely we should be able to see their little tiny hearts beating.  (Be still my own heart!)

I was looking at pictures of Anneliese from her last litter, at the same time in her pregnancy and she looks JUST like she did then. Here is a picture from Day 38 in March of 2009.

And here she is now, July 2010.

Okay, so what do you think? The more I look at her and the pictures from her last pregnancy, the more convinced I am that she is pregnant.

As I said, our appointment is at Noon. They will do the ultrasound then, and we will know if she is pregnant or not. Keep your fingers and toes crossed and I will post when I get home!

Princess Ponderings

I thought I had mentioned this, but I am now working, part time for my friend, who is also the best hair stylist and colorist that I know. She owns her own salon and I am currently doing reception and secretarial work, and will be applying for my shampoo license so I can assist the other stylists at busy times, by shampooing their clients. It’s just for the summer, and I have to tell you I really like it! I enjoy meeting people, I love answering the phone and the computer work is also something that I fancy.

Meanwhile, my little family of Hubby and the dogs is adjusting to my being gone during the day, and I feel ever so appreciated at the end of my shift, both at work and when I arrive home to happy dogs and a smiling husband.

********************

Tomorrow at noon is the ultra-sound on Anneliese to see if their are puppies inside of that belly of hers. I want to remain optimistic that there are little babies in there, and so I am just not allowing myself to consider that she isn’t. Her belly is nice and round, and she is showing other signs too. So I have fingers and toes crossed!

********************

Like every other working gal, today is grocery shopping day. I’ve never been a Sunday shopper, but I really need to get the groceries as I just won’t have time to drive the 30 minutes to our closest and best grocery store. We need so many things, and I need to stock up again on meats, chicken and fish. Interestingly my favorite frozen fillets of Norwegian Haddock are on sale this week for $3.99 a pound! It’s the best Haddock ever and I plan to stock up. (It comes frozen right off the boats)

********************

Our weather broke on Saturday and we had several good rain storms blow through. Finally a break from all that heat! It’s still a bit on the humid side, but nothing like it was.

********************

My garden is flourishing in all of this warm, and now wet weather. The cucumbers are thriving, the squash is more than abundant and I have already eaten my first Ichiban Eggplant! I was out there after dinner last night and marveled at the lush greenery!

It reminded me that this is why I plant a garden each year!

The Week Ends

I came home from work Friday night and looked at Anneliese. She looks amazingly pregnant to me! Or, was this just my anxious and hopeful eyes that saw this?

I admit to being hopeful. I only have a few more days until they repeat the ultra sound and we will have a better idea if she has babies in her belly!

It was a busy week for me between work, and home. Try as I might, I don’t seem to get the laundry done during the week, so I will just have to work on it after work today, and on Sunday. Of course on Sunday I need to grocery shop as well, and so I’m thinking that the weekend won’t provide much in the way of rest either.

The weather, something which is usually dull to write about, has actually been interesting, if you find temperatures of 98-103 degrees (f) interesting. It’s a humid, sticky, thick air mass and kind of awful to be out in. They are forecasting thunder storms for today and with them brings the hope of a drier, cooler, air mass. I’m hoping that this is true!

Have a great weekend, Everyone!

Morning Sickness & Cherry Jelly

This morning Hubby reported that one of the dogs had vomited next to the toilet in the half bath. Since it was just bile, and a small amount, he suspected Anneliese.

He joked that, had her legs been longer she could have reached the toilet, but seeing as she has those short little legs…well, we just have to be grateful she made it into the room with tiles!

Aug 23 008

Later in the day, after she had eaten, she vomited again. Now normally I would be upset if one of the dogs were ill, but tonight I am feeling a little more like this is confirmation, a day in advance that Anneliese is pregnant!

What do you think?

***************

I went to Weight Watchers and lost 2 pounds! I will keep eating the fruits and vegetables and watch the proteins and hopefully next week I will do just as well!

***************

I came home from Weight Watchers and took the cherry juice and made 16 jars of cherry jelly. That was three batches. I did the first one alone, and I found I was a pair of hands short, and I just couldn’t move fast enough, so I begged asked Hubby to help me with the second and third batches. That went so much better!

I’ve got a big shopping to do tomorrow for the weekend. It’s the 4th of July here in America. Our I’ve got a big shopping to do tomorrow for the weekend. It’s the 4th of July here in America. Our Independence Day! My sister and cousin are coming up and we will have a quiet barbecue. Then in the evening, we’ll drive down to the docks and watch the fireworks!

Fritz News!

Yesterday our White Shepherd, Fritz was operated on. He had a rather suspicious lump on his neck and we became quite worried about it when it began to grow. So, we arranged surgery to remove it. We are still hoping for the best, as our Vets have sent the tumor off to pathology for a definite diagnosis, but my Vets told us to be prepared for the worst.

So, I brought Fritz home last night and went back and forth between steely determination and tears. I really am hoping that all will be well, but I am fairly convinced that it is malignant as they suspect.

I’m holding the right thoughts, that my furry white friend will be making a complete recovery!

***************

Anneliese is showing me many signs of the early part of pregnancy. She puts herself to bed at about 8-8:30 each night, and then the rest of the time is stuck to me like glue! She is cuddly, and loving and very sweet. Not that she isn’t like this normally, but it is just more so right now.

***************

I decided to make a beer batter fish and chips tonight for dinner. I found  a recipe, even watched a video showing how to do this. The end result…It was terrible. The fish was cooked, so we peeled off the beer batter, and ate the white meat of the Haddock, but both of us agreed we enjoy the Haddock broiled much better.

So we will chalk that up to experience! Ha!

***************

I got my peas tied up, and the garden is doing well. I need to get some Miracle Grow vegetable plant food, and spray that out. All in all, I am really pleased with the garden this year!

Have a great Saturday, Everyone!

Being At Home

This was my first normal day home. By this I mean, I slept until almost 6 AM, ate normal meals, and even was able to help Hubby net the cherry tree in our yard. Netting the tree proved to be a bit more of a challenge than we anticipated, but after 2 hours the tree is netted and the cherries are safe from those rotten little birds!

I made salads for lunch for the two of us and then Hubby went off to work and I sat down and had a sinking spell. Oh how I felt like sleeping!

However, I decided to just stick it out and stay awake. I made some nice tea and sat with the dogs and sipped it. Eventually I got my second wind, and went off to get the mail and some groceries.

Our town is currently overrun with motorcycles as this is motorcycle week here in New Hampshire. What this means is that we have unbelievable traffic in town and getting from one place to the next can be a real challenge.

I’d finished my shopping when I began to pull out of the parking lot, and a woman turned around and started wagging her finger at me telling me to slow down! This was almost funny because the car was going perhaps 2 miles an hour!

I came home and worked to make Hubby a really nice meal for dinner. One of his favorites. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts! I also made a fruit salad for dessert.

Anneliese is already in bed, and I am not long behind her. It’s a little funny when a dog is also experiencing jet lag!

In this, (jet lag) I am not suffering alone!

Monday

Monday did not exactly go as I had planned.

We all woke at the correct time, Anneliese behaved the way she should have both here in Berlin, and in the car, but when we arrived at Isegrim’s home, he was just not interested in Anneliese. I mean, they played with each other, and Anneliese definitely wanted Isegrim’s affection, it’s just that he didn’t really want her.

DSC03894

We sat for quite a while and allowed them to play, but in the end, we left, with Anneliese feeling unfullfilled and me feeling more than a little concerned.

Anneliese and Isgrim Day 2

I tried to show him how nice Anneliese is!

June 7 009

I think she felt rejected afterward, as we drove home.

I know I did. Now I tell myself that perhaps she is pregnant from the one and only time that they mated. It was a good breeding, and everything went like clock-work! I’ll have to wait three weeks until I know for sure.

***************

We drove Anneliese home and dropped back, safely in her room. She was tired and warm and just wanted to take a nap. Meanwhile we decided to go out to Hercules Restaurant for Greek Gyros!

We sat down at the table and the owners brought Uzo to our seats!

June 7 013

Volker and I each drank one! It’s funny, because I do not like Licorice, but the Uzo tasted just fine!

I asked the waiter what beer they had on tap. “Warsteiner”! My favorite! So I ordered one of those! It was full bodied and cold and tasted wonderful!

June 7 015

Uschi asked if they made an alcohol free beer and they did. “Warsteiner”! So, she ordered one of those!

June 7 016

Soon the waiter brought out our lunches. Beautiful plates of thinly sliced meat, potatoes and salad! The real Greek Gyros!

June 7 018

We ate with pure delight this fabulous meal, and then we dropped Volker back at home with the dogs, and Uschi and I went out to window shop. I love to look at things, and dream…

We saw this statue in one shopping mall, and of course I like to play around, so I pretended to give him a kiss!

June 7 022

My day ended with Uschi and I watching “The Lake House”, which when translated into German becomes “Haus Am See”. And for those of you who live with me, or know me well, my favorite sing-a-long song is a German song called “Haus Am See”. Neither is related to the other, but it made me smile, none the less!

Today I need to catch up a bit with a few things before Uschi and I are off this afternoon. I need to do a little wash, spend some time in the garden with Anneliese, and write a few notes!

Meeting An Old Friend

I’m truly amazed when I meet someone that I have known for years online, and they turn out to be just who I have always known them to be! Such was Sunday, here in Berlin. My friend Bernie from Aussiepomm (Australia) is in Berlin on business and today was his free day, so we got together and walked around the Müggelsee and stopped there to have lunch.

June 6 011

The day was bright, hot and beautiful, and the three of us walked and ate, and talked and enjoyed. It was fabulous. We stopped at a great gelato shop, and had coffee in a little cafe as well, before returning to Uschi’s home where we sat for hours on the balcony talking some more.

What a pleasant time we all had, talking, laughing and joking with each other! Just how I knew it would be when two friends got together! Best of all, he got to meet Uschi and her husband as well!

The sun set quite late, as Berlin is pretty far north, and eventually Uschi and I drove Bernie to the S-Bahn to get the train back into the city.

Monday we drive back to see Herr Isegrim and complete the love match between Anneliese and her man!

The First Breeding

Saturday morning we got up, had breakfast and then prepared Anneliese for her meeting with her husband, Isegrim. The ride was a tad long, but went quite smoothly. Uschi’s husband drove us and we settled in the back seat with Anneliese and prepared her for the events to come.

Anneliese on her way to Isegrim

It was another beautiful day here and when we reached Isegrim’s home, he was waiting for us!

I went to the door and pushed the bell and waited for the family to greet us.

Arriving at Isegrim's house

Soon Steffi and her mother came out with Isegrim

and the dance of love ensued. Isegrim is quite the Romeo, and he knows exactly what to do to win over his lady love!

Then the real fun began and Steffi and I were there to assist.

It was a very good mating, and after we had a nice time chatting until the dogs were completely done.

And before we knew it, they were done for the day!

It was quite amazing, as I believe that they remembered each other from last year. I know one thing, Isegrim certainly remembered me!

And Uschi!

June 5 046

So the first breeding is done and we will go back on Monday for the second one. It was so nice to sit with Isegrim’s family afterward and have a nice visit!

June 5 039

When we got back to Berlin, we were all exhausted. Everyone took a short nap, except me. I reworked some of the pictures that you have seen here.

Have a great Sunday everyone!!!

Back In Germany

It’s a lovely and warm spring day here in Berlin. Anneliese and I arrived on Thursday at about 9:15 AM. She was an absolute angel on the planes, but I do have to tell you about a real jerk that we encountered in New York City.

We were forced to fly into LaGuardia Airport from Boston, as our original flight became overly full at the very last moment. This found me running from one gate to the next, clutching Anneliese and catching that flight, along with several other employees. We all agreed to share a taxi from LaGuardia to JFK Airport on the other side of the city.

Well, it was very hot, 87 degrees (F) and humid. When we all got into the taxi, the air conditioner was blowing lovely cold air. I could feel Anneliese panting heavily so I unzipped her bag and let her head pop out, so she could breath.

Well, the moron cab driver announced that “I do not run air conditioning for a DOG!”. We were all incensed and we did not tip the jerk. The ride was long, hot and by the time we reached Kennedy Airport, we were all dripping messes! I was angry and felt bad that the other 3 people were forced to suffer.

When I got to the gate for the Berlin flight, I noticed my name was not on the passenger cleared or the passenger stand-by list. I went to the counter and found out that a mistake had been made in Boston, but the nice man assured me that I would get a nice seat, and I did.

June 3 003

Business Class was not completely full and this was wonderful. It meant I did not have to share my area with any one but Anneliese, and that I could also enjoy conversation with the all male Stewards for the flight. They were all the best, and a pleasure to speak with.

June 3 004

The ride was bumpy and I had to get up a few times to visit the ladies room even thought the seat belt sign was on. However we made it in one piece and early to boot! All good things.

Uschi’s husband too me out to lunch along with their daughter. We had Chinese food! It’s very different here, from what we get in the USA. Perhaps a bit hotter.

When Uschi arrived home from work, we hugged and hugged and talked and talked. We even took a walk, which felt very fine indeed.

Since I have not slept at all in the last two days, I plan a nice early bedtime with Anneliese, and then I hope to hit the ground running in the morning.

Meanwhile, here is a picture of Uschi’s handsome dog, Noah!
