Bogart

I’m having a really good time! My grand-puppy, Bogart arrived on Thursday for a visit. He is a year and a half old and still full of puppy impishness! The first moments after he arrived were a bit tense. Arnie was not at all sure he wanted another male dog in the house (He does not regard Fritz as a boy, as Fritz has been altered.), and the barking and posturing were really something else. Greta and Anneliese seemed to accept him a lot more easily

After about an hour the barking stopped, but not the suspicious glances that Arnie cast  toward Bogart. But as the evening progressed, the boys settled down and eventually they curled up and slept.

On Friday, Arnie was still giving Bogart a wide birth, but Anneliese seemed to remember her son, and she began to play with him. At one point she say down on the sofa and I caught her kissing his ears.

Bogey knows where he is. Funny, that. He went out to the puppy room and sniffed around, as if looking for his brother and sisters. He is affectionate with both Hubby and me.

Currently he is on his little bed asleep, next to Fritz. Oh yes, he adores Fritz! He follows him around, showers him with kisses and sleeps cuddled next to him.

As you can see by his smile, he is settling in.

And, like the other three dackels, he enjoys looking out the windows at the lake, the birds and our neighbors cat!

Nov. 12 017

I just love the way he stands up to look out the window. Just too cute!

Nov. 12 019

It’s hard to believe that this is the same baby that I delivered a year and a half ago. Remember when he looked like this?

And this.

Now he is all grown up and even cuter, don’t you think?

Grand-Puppies

You all know how much I love my own doggies. What you might not know is that I also adore each and every puppy that has been birthed in my home. I’m really lucky to have kept in touch with many of the owners and occasionally I get pictures of my babies as well.

Here is Faith with Ali. Ali is Anneliese’s daughter from the B-Litter. Her B-Name was Birgit!

ali 2

As you can see she is a beautiful girl and is obviously adored by her little girl, Faith. It still amazes me how big she is now. Ali was the smallest of the pups, and yet she hasn’t let that slow  her down. In fact this week she helped to track down a deer for a local hunter in Michigan.

My other grand-puppy news is that Bogart is coming to visit me again. His parents are going on vacation, so I will be puppy sitting while they are gone. I haven’t seen him since last February, and I wonder how all the dogs will do with each other. I think it will be okay, and I plan to take a lot of pictures

Bogey arrives on Thursday evening.

No More Wild Animals!

Bear

I’ve started singing when I go outside in the evenings with the the dogs. That should be enough to scare off any wild animal! Perhaps they will decide to simply move along and leave me, my yard and my dogs alone!

What Should I Do On Wednesday?

I’ve been trying to find something I can do or write about on Wednesday, now that Random Dozen has shut down. I loved the Random Dozen because, well it was all so Random! Now I have to sit down and think about writing something coherent and hopefully amusing.

Winter Wednesdays? Whining Wednesdays? Wonderful Wednesdays? Wishful Wednesdays? Wiener Wednesdays?

That last one could be it. Wiener Wednesdays. Sounds just about right, what do you think? I could write stories about the dachshunds, put up pictures and stuff. This could be interesting!

  1. Yes. It’s perfect.
  2. No it’s cheesy.
  3. What’s a Wiener?

So comment and let me know what you think.

Lastly today, I ask once again to pose any question you might want me to answer for tomorrows Thursday Thirteen. I will answer all questions each week until I am out of answers and then we will have a contest to find a new Meme for me to write about on Thursdays! LOL!

Have a great day everyone!

Feelings…

People who do not have animals claim that dogs and cats have no heart, and are unable to express their feelings. They claim that dogs cannot tell time, nor can they understand when someone goes away.

I am here to tell you all that this is incorrect!

My dogs can tell time. At 4:55 PM they all know that the magic time of 5 PM is nearly here and they will get their dinners. They jump around like little children on a sugar high, until I measure the food out and place the dishes on the floor.

Today I brought out our suitcases for our trip. I put them on the bed, and then started packing clothes into them for our trip. Hubby was in the bathroom shaving, and Arnie went over to him and when Hubby spoke to him he could see that he was shaking. He handed him to me and the shaking continued, as I soothed him

I had to go to a meeting on Monday night and Fritz had that terrible “deer in the headlights” look! He knows, Suitcases+Mommy getting her purse+carkeys means that Mommy is going away. Oh, my poor boys.

Anneliese has been cuddling with me, and even Greta has been sweet to Hubby and me. It’s just amazing how much these guys know and show us what they think and feel.

I have learned, after a lifetime of pet ownership just how smart and sensitive they are. In many ways the pups show more of their hearts than most people that I know.

The Count Down Begins

Saturday is a busy day for me. I’m going to visit Margarita so she can dip my hair in the fountain of youth and give me a good hair cut. I really need to work on the hair, as lately I cannot seem to style it at all.

I’ll get back here just after lunch, and I will do some housework to prepare for my guests tomorrow late in the afternoon.

My neighbors are all coming over to have a big spaghetti dinner with us, and to go over the last of my seemingly endless lists and instructions for caring for my pooches.

I realized this morning (again) just how much I love these fury creatures and how must they add to my life.

In the morning I wake to the gentle kisses of Anneliese. Arnie stretches and snuggles against my back, and Greta is always cuddled by my tummy. Fritz is always waiting next to my side of the bed for my feet to hit the floor, then I get kisses from him.

If I have to leave the house, they run to the door and either want to go with me, or they want me to stay. When I return, they dance with delight and I smile as I listen to their toe nails click on the floor.

I am so lucky, to be so loved!

Sunday is laundry, ironing and packing day. I want to have that all done by the end of the day so that on Monday I can attend my meeting and Tuesday we can do to a fly-in close by at a local airport. Then Wednesday we are off!

Hubby and I will have 5 days all to ourselves going to his Army Reunion. Our neighbors are moving in to care for the dogs and we will sleep late, walk hand and hand along sunshiny pathways, and I will not have to cook, clean, wash a dish or walk my beloved dogs.

You know me, I will be bringing along my computer, and will be reporting in with pictures and updates from the road.

Here is my one question. This is the dress for the banquet. It has these shiny (fake) stones around the collar. It would be easy to remove them, should I, or should I leave them?

dress

We will be in a very hot area, so the sleeveless dress will be a good thing. It’s very light and flows nicely when I move. Think Hubby will dance with me?

Family & Dogs

I was off to the great state of Massachusetts to see and take care of my cousin, Janet. She really is doing better than she was, but her recovery will be a long one. Her surgery was on her back, and she has a 4 inch incision. She is on massive amounts of antibiotics, and at this point, needs lots of rest.

On Thursday night I did cook my, “World Famous Chicken”

Aug 18 002

It was a big hit, and made Janet smile. So, it was totally worth all the work making it and then cleaning it up! As I said yesterday, I need someone who likes to wash dishes after I cook because I tend to use every pot and pan in the kitchen!

This morning the Visiting Nurse came back again to give Janet her antibiotic infusion. Once again, Wolf got all freaked out! Poor guy. I sat him down next to me and tried to calm him.

Sept 17 007

Eventually he started to relax and respond positively to my calming kisses and snuggles.

Sept 17 006

I stayed until early afternoon when Janet’s friend Lauren arrived. She was going to stay until Dave got home from work. Then he will be with her all weekend.

Saturday I am off to see my daughter and her boyfriend and I have a dog sitter coming to take care of the pups. Am I the only one you know who gets a baby sitter for their dogs? Just call me a loving dog Mommy!

What Did You Do This Weekend?

Miss Marple 2

Our host is Gattina. Come join us and tell us what YOU did this past weekend!

This was a great weekend for us here in the Dackel Princess House. Our very own Emily was here for the weekend and we did what we love to do the best when Emily is here!

Sept 4 021

We cooked and we baked and we played games and watched movies and we hugged dackels!

Sept 4 006

This morning we took a few more pictures. I was just awake, still in my nightgown and a jacket, as we had cold weather move in last night, so please forgive my somewhat disheveled appearance.

Sept 5 015

You can see how Greta helps me write my blog!

Sept 5 013

Then it was my turn to take pictures of Emily. The pups were spreading their love onto her, and she enjoyed every minute!

Sept 5 007

Sept 5 006

After this, Emily was off to visit with her other friends for the afternoon and I watched The US Open Tennis. Hubby has been complaining that he is “Tennis-d Out” and longs to watch almost anything else on the TV. He better be careful or I will put on my favorite junkie TV show, “Ice Road Truckers”! He really hates that!

So with family, friends and dogs, my weekend was nice and relaxed and very, very, full of love!

This & That

Today is another big cooking day. I have more zucchini to use up, so I will be making at least two batches of zucchini bread, and I also have about 4 pounds of ripe tomatoes, so I will be making more sauce to freeze.

I’m really amazed at how prolific my garden has been this year! In the past we have had good luck with things, but nothing like this. Everything is growing, and I have been able to put up so much, in the freezer for enjoyment this winter!

On Saturday I made Hubby one of his favorite meals. Slow-Cooked Boneless Pork Ribs. You toss them in the slow cooker with sliced onions and some of your favorite barbecue sauce and cook them on low all day. They are just yummy!

Oh yes, and the best news regarding eating comes about Anneliese. She is back to eating normally again! This is something I am so happy about.

Aug 28 006

She’s lost a lot of weight and I was starting to worry, but she is looking good now and when I came home yesterday from getting the mail, she heard me in the basement and started to bark a greeting!

Aug 28 007

In other words, she is close to being back to her old self!

Arnie was very cute today with Hubby, trying to get on his good side.

Aug 28 003

It’s my theory that Arnie is trying to convince Hubby that he should be the one to go off on these grand adventures that Hubby takes Fritz on. I’m sure that Fritz tells Arnie how wonderful the adventures are, and poor Arnie feels like he is really missing out on things.

Aug 28 002

I’ve told him that he”s not, but a trip to the Post Office with me next week may be what he needs, or perhaps I’ll take him off to the park all by himself for a nice long walk!

Life & Coffee

So the day dawned, and Anneliese, Arnie, Greta, Fritz and I woke like we always do, and after a walk in the yard where they communed with nature, and I stood there in my robe, slippers, and sunglasses and watched them, we were able to come back in to my freshly brewed coffee.  It always amazes me that until I have that first cup of coffee, I remain in lala land.

We came in and by that time the coffee was made and my first cup of pleasure was poured. I fixed it up, sat down and read my email, while I sipped it.

Have you ever noticed how wonderful that first cup tastes in the morning? I’m not sure why, perhaps it is that after a long night’s sleep, it just makes the taste that much nicer.

I brought Anneliese in this morning for her post operative check up. She is doing very well, and aside from her discomfort, she is healthy and will be well. She has followed me around all day and wanted to sit in my lap or next to me, but all is going as it should.

I’ve got my very last batch of Bread and Butter Pickles soaking and they will be canned tomorrow. After that, I’ve got plums coming and I want to make a couple of batches of Plum Jam. I also plan to bake a Peach Kuchen for Hubby, who has been so wonderful the last few days.

Yes, life goes on, doesn’t it? Yes, sometimes we stumble and fall, sometimes the world doesn’t turn the way you wish that it did, but then…you wake up. You put on your robe and slippers and sunglasses and go outside and breathe.

And you just know, that life is good.

Man & Dogs

This morning, as I sipped my first cup of coffee, I noticed Greta, sitting quietly in the front window. She looked so beautiful and sweet that I quickly snapped these two pictures.

Aug 6 002

And I called her name and she looked over at me.

Aug 6 003

Now isn’t she a beauty?

(Even if she is slightly pudgy!)

My day was spent canning. I made two batches of my Heavenly Peach Jam (19 jars!), as well as peeling, scooping and chopping cucumbers for Moonglow Pickles. That alone (the cucumbers) took me two hours!

I was feeling rather tired and frankly, I would have enjoyed going out for dinner, but both Hubby and I were too tired to even do that, so I made a less than wonderful dinner, which gave me heartburn, and the day finally ended.

Saturday I will can 6 jars of Moonglow Pickles, and perhaps do a little laundry. There is no news on Anneliese at this moment, but I hope there will be soon!

The dogs are all feeling very clingy right now. Here Arnie, Anneliese and Fritz are with Hubby.

Aug 6 007

Greta was in my lap!

Have a great weekend everyone!
