The Weekend Wrap ~ June 1st

The weekend wrap 2It was a busy weekend here in New Hampshire due to the Memorial Day Holiday. Our hotels were filled, the campsites too, and traffic was a nightmare! I went out on Sunday to get a few things and then retreated to the house to keep away from all the Tourists.

It was odd though, that so many people came up to the Lakes Region. You see, it was not the best weather here at all. It rained and was cold to the point where I actually turned on our heat last night.

I felt bad for the people who run the annual Memorial Day Craft Fair in our town. I’m sure many of the Crafters canceled. Really, it was that bad!

I am feeling better and Arnie also seems to be doing well. We started him on Cranberry Extract with pumpkin seed extract and a few other things and after almost 2 weeks he seems more comfortable. At least I pray this is true.

I am still working on learning about my new phone. I try to learn a few things each day. It’s amazing how many things change on phones in just a few years!

A lot of things going on this week for me. So there won’t be too much of a chance to lie about and be lazy. Sometimes that is very good.

Have a great week, Everyone.

Happy 9th Birthday ~ Savannah!!!

Today is my granddaughter, Savannah Rose’s 9th Birthday! It seems like just yesterday that I stepped into my daughter’s hospital room and saw this tiny, perfect baby girl lying in her cot.

June 02 12 011

I remember staring and then asking if I could pick her up? Mandy laughed and said, “Of course”!

May31 12 002

I picked her up and held her close and stared into her beautiful face. I felt nothing but pure sweet love wash over me!

June 02 12 009I remember feeling immediately, that she’d always been with me. As if my soul knew hers.

20180717_123437

As the years have gone by, we have shared so much. Stories at bedtime, sleepovers, making tea and cookies together, and all the secret dreams she has shared with me.

The best thing is that now, at 8 years old, Savannah can tell me exactly what she is thinking and feeling and we share even more in life.

Every time I enjoy something with Savi, it’s like I have enjoyed it for the very first time.

You are my sunshine and my smiles and you have made me the happiest Oma in the entire world!

Happy Birthday to my darling Savannah Rose!
I love you to the Moon and back!

The Friday Five May 28th

The Friday FiveLife is crazy right now. It seems to be flying by. Unlike last year, when we were all shut in and wondered when life might begin again. Well, here we are and things are speeding by like they did pre-covid! So here we go with this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I have discovered a way to keep the Crows, and Ravens away from my bird feeders. I put out a white patio chair in between the two feeders and since then the larger birds are not interested in raiding the suet feeders. The Grackles are also leary of the wonderful white chair.
  2. Arnie is hanging in there. Most of the time he does very well, but the boy has discovered that after dinner and his walk he would rather just go to bed. Guess he doesn’t enjoy Jack’s police shows.
  3. I finally got in to have my mammogram. Not my most loved thing to do, but it’s what you do when you are over the age of 40 now. Yearly, right? Somehow I missed 3 years! Oops! Well, it’s done now, and it was done on their new 3-D mammography machine.
  4. This weekend I plan to kick back a little. I am still not up to par and I need to try and get past this.
  5. We have had wonderful weather, with the exception of a thunderstorm Wednesday night. We got into the 90s on Wednesday before returning to the low 80s. The town is crowded with summer tourists, and motorcycles race up and down the road below us, giving us a lot of noise. Mostly, things are very quiet, but with summer here, the noise of the great hogs takes over.

Have a great weekend.

Summers on Old Cape Cod

While I was driving out to the Veterinarian office yesterday with Arnie, I was doing my darndest not to think about Arnie. So I sat thinking about the first memories I have of my sixty-two years.

My mother used to say I could swim before I could walk, which could possibly be true. I grew up a mere 5-minute walk from the ocean, on Cape Cod.

img083Baby MB!

Looking back I think I was tremendously lucky because from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Mom would pack a picnic basket with sandwiches and drinks, and her latest summer novel. She would sit on her beach chair, and we would swim in an area of the beach called the kiddie pool in those early years.

Foggy weather or bright sunshine, we lived at the beach. Peanutbutter and marshmallow fluff was my favorite sandwiches, (still are, although I do not eat them) and I learned that a little sand in our lunch wasn’t a bad thing.

img082Me and Mel. Check out those chunky baby thighs!

Mom had to tie a rope around my waist to keep me from swimming away from shore. I would see Martha’s Vineyard across the sea and I loved it there, and thought, in all my childish ways, that swimming could get me there!

I learned that the salt on my skin felt wonderful. I learned that Seagulls will dive on you for the smallest potato chip and the waves, and body surfing them was the greatest of fun.

My cousins and their parents would come for vacation and join us on the beach. Uncle George taught me the finer points of swimming, and he would toss us in the air and we would splash into the water! Oh, what fun that was!

img657Mel and me. I’m the little squirt on the left!

One day I was trying to find beautiful shells, I felt something jagged under my toes! I hobbled up to the blanket leaving a trail of blood in the sand. And yes, I was crying. Uncle George picked me up and carried me to the ocean and rinsed the sand from my foot, then carried me up to the blanket. Mom said I would need to see the doctor about stitches, so Uncle George wrapped a napkin or two around my toe and he carried me all the way back to the house where my dad drove us to the doctor’s office. And yes, I did need stitches. Three if I remember correctly, and then I was bandaged up and told no swimming until the stitches came out! That was (or so it seemed) forever.

However, I made it, and looking back now, and remembering how loved and safe I felt in my Uncle George’s arms makes me so very thankful to have had such a wonderful man in my life.

I can look back, on the earliest years of my life and remember the carefree and beautiful life I had on “Old Cape Cod”.

There are more “Cape Cod Summer Tales” but for today, I will publish this and remember my summers back then with smiles and happiness.

Crazy Monday

dackie

I did a lot of running around on Monday. I woke, not feeling my best (don’t worry it’s not Covid, probably an ulcer) and I had no food in the house I could eat. So after dressing, I toddled off to the grocery store, and already at 9:30 AM, the place was jumping with…Tourists. I’m sure many of them don’t think of themselves that way, but those of us who live here year-round look at all those license plates from out of State and groan!

I got foods that are easy on the stomach and then came home, ate a small breakfast, and then scooped up Arnie for yet another Veterinarian appointment. I packed a small snack and off we went.

Arnie is not well. He is slowly going downhill and we decided to do what we can to keep him comfortable during this time. Arnie has had 14 and a half wonderful years! And we have had fourteen and a half wonderful years with him! We have really been blessed! Arnie was and is a truly fantastic boy!

On our way home I decided to get a vanilla shake. You know, coat my stomach, and stuff. Well, a thought struck me. I’ll get that and give Arnie a little.

At the window, I told the girl I planned to give Arnie a little whipped cream. I paid and went to the next window and what do I get handed? A small shake and a small cup of whipped cream for Arnie! And he thought he was the luckiest boy around!

And watching him…I knew was the luckiest girl!

Samsung Galaxy S51~ 5G

For nearly a week I read everything I could about today’s Cell Phones. It had been many years since I last purchased one, and even then, that Cell Phone (the S8) didn’t have everything I needed.

So, I read and read and when I felt I was ready, I went down to our local wireless store and bought the Samsung Galaxy S51 ~ 5G. Here is why:

  1. At the top of my list was the 5G. I’d noticed that my reception on my old phone wasn’t too good and it was getting worse. Why? Well, as they replace the old towers they are putting in 5G Towers and somehow my S8 wasn’t too compatible. I was dropping calls left and right!
  2. The battery life on my S8 was terrible and was getting worse. The S51 has the longest battery life of those I read about.samsung-galaxy-a51-5g-1
  3. The camera has:
    MAIN CAMERA Quad
    48 MP, f/2.0, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0″, 0.8µm, PDAF
    12 MP, f/2.2, 123˚ (ultrawide)
    5 MP, f/2.4, (macro)
    5 MP, f/2.2, (depth)
    Features
    LED flash, panorama, HDR
    Video
    4K@30fps, 1080p@30/120fps; gyro-EIS
    SELFIE CAMERA
    Single
    32 MP, f/2.2, 26mm (wide), 1/2.8″, 0.8µm
    Features
    HDR
    Video
    4K@30fps, 1080p@30fps
all of which appealed. I am sure it will take me a while to learn to use it.
  4. This model also has two things I still wanted. The ability to plug into my car because I do not have Bluetooth in my car, and a place for a memory card slot, as I have still not figured out the whole cloud system.
  5. The overall layout was much the same as the S8 and I have been able to set it u so it almost looks the same.
  6. Still, I had forgotten how much of a chore it is to set up a new phone.
  7. I had them pour on the Liquid glass, but I still need a good Cell Phone protector. I usually get Otter Boxes, but they do not have what I like for this phone. (So far, the only drawback!)
  8. So, I have had two days to work setting up my pho9ne and so far I quite like it. I simply asked myself honestly what I needed and then went for my best option!

SO I am working each day to learn the new phone and get it set up so it is just right!

Thursday Thirteen May 20th

Nov 24 015Wow! Can you believe this? May is more than halfway over! So, today I thought I would put together a list of the things I did on Thursday, May 19th.

  1. On Wednesdays, I meet with my ladies for our version of WW. Since we were abandoned by WW during the Pandemic, we made our own group and carry through the old WW mantra. These are thirteen women that I love and care about very deeply. Lucky 13!
  2. I rushed to the Post Office and got my mail. There was a lot of mail and packages.
  3. I have seriously been looking at Cell Phones. Tomorrow I am going to the local Verizon store and getting a new phone.
  4. I drove Jack to his doctor’s appointment. It was a beautiful day and the ride was a pleasant one.
  5. After the doctor’s appointment, we headed over to the grocery shop. We got many items that we needed.
  6. Then we went to fill up on gasoline. Boring, yes, but we really needed the gas.
  7. We came home and put everything away. I was simply beat, but at least we bought a rotisserie chicken and salad for dinner. It was all easy!
  8. The dogs were so happy when we got home! Apparently, the Pandemic has caused them to believe that will never go out.
  9. I need to clean up my basket of flowers. Mandy sent me a beautiful arrangement and they have lasted a long time. I need to weed out the old and dried and freshen it all up!20210519_181902
  10. I bought my best friend, Gail a nightshirt just like mine. Hers came quickly to her, and mine arrived today. I love it! Twinsies!
  11. We’ve started Arnie on some cranberry/pumpkin seed extract in hopes to help his urinary tract problems.
  12. Tomorrow I need to do laundry and pack. I am staying at Mandy’s overnight on Friday. Should be fun!
  13. And lastly, I am so tired! I think it’s the kind of tiredness that is mostly emotional. It can only get better.

Way Back Wednesday

As you know, Arnie isn’t doing well and I find myself looking back in time to when he was a young, sprightly puppy!

Feb. 4 ArnieWe’ve had Arnie since the very moment he drew breath. Arnie was Greta’s son. The only boy in that first litter of five.

Arnie was the one pup who just moved about quietly, stealing people’s hearts. Those eyes, that sweet look, he simply went around collecting fans!

Oct 13 031We had never intended on keeping Arnie. He was due to go to a woman in New York State, but at the very last minute (the day she was supposed to come and get him) she canceled. At that point, he was little orphan Arnie and we knew he was meant to be with us.

Sept. ,3 002Where have the last 14 years gone? Really, it just flew by. And now my handsome little guy is an old man.

It matters not. Way back when or now, Mr. Arnie is still the most loving and amazing little man ever!

The Weekend Wrap ~ May 17th

The weekend wrap 2My weekend was a tough one. I was feeling rather emotional, and in the end, I was tired and actually needed to take a nap on Sunday. Here’s what was happening.

Arnie is still unwell. I will be calling his Vet tomorrow to see what we can do. Part of me is really panic-stricken because I’m afraid Arnie is nearing the end of his life. My boy. My last link to Greta and the Dackel Princess Puppies. My heart is breaking.

Taxes. I bugged Jack until the middle of last week and finally, he started the taxes. He needed me to do some typing for him. We finished them on Saturday, printed them on Sunday, and I will mail them, registered mail tomorrow. May I just say that Tax Season is very stressful for me each year because Jack always wants the one thing I have not saved! This year, I did have it all, but the struggle was real.

Our Apple Trees are blooming beautifully. I managed to snap a few pictures! They really are beautiful!

20210516_084333

I was not in the mood to blow out my hair today, so I embraced my curls. They’re still there and actually made my hair prep easier.

20210516_072259

The week is a busy one, and should Arnie need Vet care, I will be driving out to our Vet’s. Whatever he needs.

Have a great week ahead!
