The Friday Five ~ January 28th

20200206_160117Welcome to the last Friday in January. It’s hard to believe because this month has gone exceptionally fast for me. But as I sit here writing, here are five things that have been on my mind this week.

  1. Since this past week I had no appointments anywhere, it gave me a chance to concentrate on Heidi’s house training, as well as get ready for the snowstorm that is forecast for this weekend. No rushing around, just systematically doing things.
  2. The fluorescent light fixture in my closet died. I’d hoped it was just the bulbs, but no. It was the starter for the light. Well, I had never done any of this before, but I found the parts I needed at the Hardware store and came home and fixed my light fixture, and changed the dead bulb in Jack’s closet. I’m feeling pretty accomplished!
  3. I am hooked on Wordle! I play each day and then post my score. Most of my friends and family are also playing. Very neat!
  4. This sub-zero temperature spell we have been in is not only uncomfortable but it costs us an arm and a leg with fuel oil over three dollars a gallon. The last fill-up cost us over $900.00!
  5. I bring Heidi to the Vet’s Office on Thursday for her next shots. She is a good little car rider. I’m still using her soft crate in the car, but plan to get a car seat with a harness to keep her safe while traveling.

20220126_133926My little sun-worshiper!

Have a great weekend, and also stay warm and dry here in the Northeast if you can, and enjoy the warmth and sunshine down-under!

The Friday Five ~ January 21st

20200206_160117Here we are another week gone by. It’s been so cold here in New Hampshire that Jack and I live in long underwear with layers over them, and for me, a blanket too. Besides freezing up here, this week, this is what’s going on in my world.

  1. On Monday we called to order oil for the tank. We were down to just below a quarter of a tank, and with single-digit- below zero temperatures we knew that wouldn’t last long. On Thursday we were very nervous about running out, then the Oilman cometh! 219 gallons later, we are no longer worried about that and having to deal with freezing pipes.
  2. It’s been fun to watch Lili and Heidi become friends. Although Heidi can still bug Lili when they play.20220119_160133
Mostly, they play together nicely. Lili allows Heidi to lick at her and snuggle her.20220116_093908

Heidi will roll on her back telling Lili that she means no harm. And Lili starts playing once again.

  3. Heidi went to the Vet on Thursday for her shots. She weighed in at 11 pounds. I guess this means she’s eating well here and likes her new home. Our Veterinarians love her and joke that they would take her in a heartbeat!
  4. I am slowly starting to feel better from the Flu. This has been a tough one to kick. I am sure glad I went and was tested for Covid, Strep, and the Flu, or I would have mistakenly thought I had Covid.
  5. I’ve been home for a few weeks now, but aside from the dirty clothes that I removed from my suitcase, the case is not unpacked. I plan to set aside time tomorrow to unpack it and put the case away. I don’t see myself traveling now for a while.

So there we go. This week’s Friday Five. All good and positive things as we head into the weekend.

I hope you all are well and enjoying your days. And most of all, I hope that Covid departs very soon!

The Friday Five ~ January 7th 2022

20200206_160117
Welcome to the first Friday of 2022! Can you believe it? A week ago I was shuttling off to Nashville to go and pick up Heidi. Now she is home, and it feels almost like she has been with us forever!

So here we go. This week’s Friday Five!

  1. I still cannot believe that I have had Heidi for almost a week. She is amazing and I am thrilled to call her my own!20220106_133357
  2. Heidi has a fan club here in town. I have several friends and business owners who simply adored my dackels. Especially Arnie.  So now she has special Aunties at various places that we go to visit!
  3. I got the new, waterproof throw for my bed. My plan is to start the night out here, and when Jack goes to bed at 11 o’clock PM, I will walk Heidi for the last time and then hopefully go to bed in a real bed for the night.
  4. Heidi continues to ride well in the car. I just keep riding around with her and she does very well!
  5. I am still trying to catch up with my sleep. I have my fingers crossed that tonight will be a very good night!

The Friday Five ~ December 17th

Friday Five 1Another week has come and gone. I’ve been busy driving to and fro and thankfully, our weather has been good. Here is this week’s Friday Five.

  1. I had planned this for a while. I went and had my hair done, colored and shaped, and I had my fingers done with pretty sparkling pink polish.  Everything came out and in two weeks I leave to go and get my Heidi.
  2. After seeing the devastation in Kentucky, I started to evaluate my whirl-wind trip to get my wee friend. Doing it all in two days was not something I felt good about, so today I called my hotel in Nashville, and Delta and changed my plans. I will leave a day early and instead of doing it all in two short days I am taking my time and doing it in three. I feel so much better about that.
  3. All my Christmas plans are done. The one thing I have left to do is find a marvelous gift for Mandy’s birthday. I have a few ideas, but I will leave it up to her which thing she would like.
  4. A good friend of mine lost her 14-year-old dackel today. I’d known Veela since she arrived as a puppy from Germany. She also sired a litter of puppies with Greta’s mate, Bernie. Veela was a good girl and I will miss her as will her owners.
  5. Jack had all his blood work today and goes for his physical next week. I took the hour he was inside the VA to begin making my travel plan changes. Very wise on my part!

Have a great weekend everyone. Stay safe and stay healthy!

The Friday Five ~ December 10th

Friday Five 1The week is nearly over and I know that Christmas will soon be here. Then it is just a matter of days until I leave to go and bring Heidi home. Yes, the excitement is building! So, without further adieu here are this week’s Friday Five.

  1. Getting the house ready for a new puppy requires a little thought. One must get down on all fours and then glance around. See anything that little piranha teeth might want to chew? Well, let’s get it all cleaned up!
  2. Next, I got out the doggy crate, cleaned it, and put a fresh bed inside. I also sat down and ordered some “Made in the USA” puppy toys, and her food from Chewy.
  3. I think what I have been doing could be called “nesting”. Much like a new mother. I think the best puppy adoptions are when you think of everything before and follow through. So, nesting it is!
  4. I finally sat down and made up a calendar of my family and friends’ pictures. I do it each year and usually, I have a great deal of enthusiasm. This year I didn’t feel like doing it, until just recently. Now it is all set and ordered, and best of all I had a great coupon!
  5. My new hat arrived. It’s warm. I’m not sure I really like it. However, It covers my ears and will keep snow out of my eyes. There is just no glamour. Do I need glamour? I don’t know. Meanwhile, I will keep and use the ugly hat.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!

The Friday Five ~ Dec. 3rd

20200206_160117

Wow, this sure was a wild week and when I woke up this morning I thought, this is Friday! How can this be? So here is whats kept me so busy.

  1. Life has a way of laughing at me when it comes to computers. My fairly new computer has been acting sloggy, and after a recent Windows Update, I was suddenly unable to reach my network printer. I tried everything. I even had a remote visit with my Computer Guru and he couldn’t figure it out either. This was wild and new and aside from tossing the machine against the wall, further exploration needed to be done.
  2. So, Brad came and picked up my machine to see what he could do. I’d decided to upgrade to Windows 11 and so Brad wiped the hard drive completely clean and did a fresh download with the Windows Eleven for my machine.
  3. After getting the machine loaded and talking to his Network and Network Printer. He brought her home. We opened it up, got it onto the Network and…..the Master Computer wouldn’t talk to my laptop enough to allow it to print! Ugh!
  4. We worked all afternoon, tinkering, and trying everything we could think before Brad figured a way around this glitch! So now, my computer is clean and running better than it ever has, and I can print! I can never that Brad enough for all his hard work!
  5. Lastly, I received a phone call from a dear woman who was the Owner of Angelika, from Greta’s first litter.

    Dec. 26 042
    Angelika at 3 weeks!

She was a full sibling to both Anneliese and Arnie. She was greatly loved in her forever home, and just two weeks before what would have been their 15th Birthday, Angel went to Rainbow Bridge. When I think about how wonderful that very first litter was, and how long most of them lived, and how happy they made their families, I am so proud of my Greta and her “husband” Bernie. Now all those wonderful pups are gone. The tears flowed and then I remembered that one day, we will be reunited with our beloved fur-babies.

So this is the week that was. Last night my brain just hurt from all the computer thinking, and my heart hurts from the last goodbyes.

Have a Great Weekend Everyone!

The Friday Five ~ November 19th

Friday Five 1This week did slip by. Mostly because I slept through it. Here is what the last week saw, and why I was so sleepy.

  1. On Tuesday I delivered all my Christmas gifts to my daughter’s house. I’ve been shopping online since the summer, and I spent all of Sunday wrapping, and then put all the gifts in two large boxes and tucked them into my Highlander.  Although I am really happy that the kids will have presents from me, I will miss them like crazy on Christmas Day.
  2. After doing that on Tuesday I drove over to the VA to get my Moderna Booster Shot. The nurse, who I already know, was so gentle that I did not feel a thing.
  3. But an hour later, I started to feel unwell. I was due to have physical therapy, but I had to leave and get home.
  4. Wednesday I felt a bit better and I went about a Zoom call and a few other things. It was my Birthday and I planned a nice Charcuterie Board, Champagne, and Baked French Onion Soup. But by the time we sat down to eat I had a fever of 102° (F). I had no appetite and so the champagne was not popped, and I didn’t even have my soup! I simply did the dishes and then went to bed at 7 PM. I proceeded to sleep 13 hours.
  5. Thursday found me still a bit under the weather. The fever was down, but I was so tired. My arm is swollen, red, and sore. I’ve been told it is a positive reaction. So it is done and over with. Now I can travel to get Heidi and not worry too much. I will still wear a mask and sanitize my hands as much as I can.

So that was the week that was. I lived to tell the tale and I know that by the time the weekend is over I will be fine and back to my old self.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and a happy week ahead!

The Friday Five ~ November 12th

The Friday FiveAnother week has flown by. I was busy getting things done, as well as thinking and daydreaming about Heidi. So, here goes my list for this week.

  1. I made all my reservations for my trip. Including a rental car. I feel good about all that I have accomplished.
  2. Heidi’s new dog carrier arrived and it is perfect. I also sent a soft blanket to the breeder to use over the next few weeks. That way, when I bring Heidi home, she will have something that smells like home to her!
  3. I have several larger crates that I will clean and one I will set up before I leave. The other will be for later when she’s a bit bigger.
  4. The time change is kicking my butt! I am finding that I just cannot get used to the change. By 8 PM I am wiped out and ready for bed.
  5. This weekend I will wrap all the presents for Mandy, Matt, and the kids. Then I will be dropping them off next week when I am at Physical Therapy. Unfortunately, I will miss seeing everyone at Christmas this year, but I simply have to take precautions. I do not want to get Covid or bring Covid with me. So I am living in a slightly tighter bubble these days.

So that’s it for this week. Stay healthy, stay safe, and enjoy the weekend!

The Friday Five ~ November 5th

The Friday FiveHere we are, the end of another week! This one did fly by and I was incredibly busy. Here’s what’s happening!

  1. On Monday I was due for my MRI and my first PT for a slightly torn tendon. This meant a ride to Manchester, NH. On my way down I stopped at the Outlet Mall and had my cell-phone fixed, as well as selected a Birthday/Christmas gift for my BFF Gail.
  2. Gail and I have been friends since we were very young. We met at a Summer Christian Camp and hit it off.

img022 copyGail and I are sitting together right in the middle of the 2nd row. She was a brunette then and I was a bleached blonde with short hair.

She and I were pen-pals back in the day when there were no cell phones and making a long-distance call cost an arm and a leg! We learned to write letters and we lived for the mail delivery each week. She was “Silly in Salem” and I was “Funny in Falmouth”.

  3. Since we both have birthdays in close proximity to Christmas, this year we decided to buy each other one special gift. I needed a small overnight bag on wheels for when I go and pick up my puppy. I needed it to be quite small, but flat on the top side so I can set the new puppy in its case on top. She found an awesome Vera Bradley case complete with a toiletry kit! And a pill holder and grocery bag! For Gail, I found the most beautiful Coach purse! It was amazing and it was a Gail bag if ever I’d seen one! Best of all, Her Outlet Store shipped it to me, and my Outlet Store shipped hers to her! It was perfect all around!
  4. A very kind friend and former neighbor came over and in 15 minutes took out our air conditioners and stacked them on the screen porch for the winter. What normally takes us all day, took him no time at all! Bryan was gifted all the apples he wanted and a bunch of seasoned lumber we’d milled from our farm years ago.
  5. And lastly, I am happy to report that my MRI was pretty much clear, and I am doing great with my physical theray on the knee. Yay!

Have a great weekend everyone!

The Friday Five ~ October 29th

Friday Five 1I know I begin my Friday Five each week talking about how fast it has gone, but this week I am not exaggerating! Each day there was a plan of action to get me working on the house. This was actually very good for me, as I heal from the loss of my boy, Arnie.

  1. I decided that I needed to clean and sterilize all the dog equipment I have. It is now accomplished and set aside waiting to be used once again.
  2. I actually have not had the heart to put away the dog steps and ramps. I choose to believe that one day, a dackel will come to me and I will be completely ready.
  3. I love the new floor wet/dry vac that I purchased recently. I feel so great about the ease of use and the fresh scent in my home. Wonderful!
  4. I have now lost seven pounds since returning to my healthy eating lifestyle. What I am learning is control of portions. I have also pretty much kicked the carbohydrates in my diet, as I simply eat them and then they turn into fat!
  5. Lastly, I am going to see my grandchildren today! I am thrilled. I so wish we could sell this house and move closer. That would be perfect!

So, that’s it for now. I hope you all have a great weekend!
